Great stay in Charlevoix

We were very pleased with our stay in Charlevoix !! The house was clean, pleasant, very much accommodating to our needs , we loved sitting on the deck and watching the sunset. It was great working with Stan, and we would very much like to repeat this experience at a time when we could stay a little longer and enjoy the water.

Great family time

The property fit our needs very well - adults & kids 4 & under. Plenty of bedrooms & bathrooms to accommodate a large group and the deck was a perfect area for the young kids to play. A couple of beautiful Lake Michigan beaches were close by.

Family boating vacation

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Location is excellent and conveniently located to great boat launches! The house is just as described! So much room for our family members to relax and enjoy our stay in Charlevoix. We enjoyed grilling and lounging on the spacious deck while taking in the most beautiful sunsets and morning walks through the property. Stan was an excellent host! We plan to be back!

Charlevoix!

Thank you Stan for sharing this beautiful property! We had a wonderful time. It was nice having you meet us at the house to show us around and share the history! Every window has a gorgeous view and you thought of everything with the amenities. We definitely recommend this property for a large group. More than enough room for us all. Thank you!

We enjoyed staying at this home. Beautiful views and great location. Stan was very attentive. When the dryer stopped working while we were there, he had a new dryer in place the next day.

Two Thumbs Up

This property was perfect for our vacay with plenty of room for our group of 12. The views of Lake Michigan are spectacular from all 3 floors. The location was secluded but just a few minutes to Charlevoix and an hour from Mackinac. Whether you want to watch the sun set over the lake, sit by a campfire or wander Up North, this property doesn’t disappoint.

July Vacation

We enjoyed the space both inside and outside of the property. The front, back and side yards were perfect for yard games. Several beautiful and spacious beaches were within a 5 - 10 minute drive and were never crowded. We also enjoyed the trails at the beaches and the smaller trails around the property. The wrap around deck was our favorite place to enjoy morning coffee, evening wine, meals, reading, games, and sunsets. A suggestion that may enhance future guests' stays - some blinds inside for the windows facing west to keep the hot evening sun out on both the main floor and bedrooms, so these living, kitchen and sleeping areas might be cooler until the sun sets.

A Wonderful Family Vacation

We rented the house for our annual family gathering. There were 12 of us and we found the house to be as advertised and very clean, comfortable, well stocked and Stan (the owner) was there to check us in and acquaint us with the property. We found the views to be outstanding and the location conducive to day trips. We made a few suggestions to Stan, which he thanked us for and said he would address during the off season. All in all a very nice experience and we would recommend the house to others.

We spent a wonderful week...

We spent a wonderful week at this house in August of 2009. There was nothing more that we could have asked for! The views were spectacular. Plenty of space in and around the house for privacy, dining, sunning, etc. We all love to cook, and the kitchen provided everything we needed.Though the house is not on the water, it is a very short (3 minute) drive to a lovely, secluded beach. Charlevoix, Traverse City and Petoskey are all less than an hour's drive away. The house is also near a nature preserve. We would (and will!) rent this property again.

A Wonderful House With Spectacular Views

We chose this lovely house for our family vacation near Charlevoix, and had a wonderful time. I'd been looking for a larger house to accommodate our growing family, and this fit the bill. I knew this house was going to be large, but my entire family couldn't believe how large and spacious it was. It's an older home but has been beautifully renovated and feels very welcoming. I especially loved the spacious kitchen, the butler's pantry, and large dining area. We spent so much time there as well as the huge back deck. The views of Grand Traverse Bay are breathtaking!! This house is also very private and so quiet and peaceful that it was hard to leave after our stay had ended. It's a little slice of heaven close to Charlevoix, Torch lake, and so much more. I highly recommend this property if you're looking for a large, lovely, serene, and private vacation house for your next vacation!

Great home!

We just concluded a great trip at this wonderful home. Stan was very accommodating and easy to deal with. The home was clean and the views were amazing. We all especially enjoyed the various trails around the property. The home is in a great location, within 10 miles from the town of Charlevoix, and centrally located within 20-30 miles from several awesome golf courses. Thanks Stan for letting us rent your incredible home!

Great Place

This was a great place for my wedding party to stay. Reasonably priced and great views. Plenty of space to spread out. The house is a little quirky but that is what you get when it was built in the 1800's. Great sound system and deck for enjoying the expansive private view.

Nice Girl Weekend

Stayed here with lifelong friends, every year we take a long weekend. This time was later than most and we found this place online. Really nice place and all of us decided the only thing that could have made it better was warmer weather. It was October in northern michigan though so we knew it would be a gamble. The accommodations and surrounding view are better than we expected. Very nice! Several of us are returning next year with our spouses and families.

The house was wonderful and had great view of Lake Michigan

I booked this house to accommodate 12 people, which were family from out of town for my sons wedding in Charlevoix. It worked out perfectly! The owner has a very spacious house, with all the features you would expect and kept up nicely. The property is about 8 to 9 miles south of downtown Charlevoix, an easy drive down south 31, and puts you in a quiet and peaceful area. A great place to just relax and enjoy the outdoors. The owner met us on are arrival and was very pleasant and helpful in everyway. I would definitely stay here again.

Worth Every Penny

Our family from around the country met here for an overdo family reunion in June of 2015. We were a bit hesitant due to the price. The experience was worth every penny. The house is phenomenal. Incredibly clean and well maintained and a short drive to downtown Charlevoix. VERY quiet and peaceful in that area as well. You could here a pin drip outside at night. We arrived to find everything we needed to start as far as paper supplies, towels, dish soap, laundry soap, coffee and on. The supplies we arrived to lasted us the entire week. (depends on the situation I suppose, you might need more of one thing or another than we did.) The view is beautiful and the surrounding forest, trails (right out the door) are stunning. The owner is very nice, helpful and genuinely concerned about the people staying in his property and making sure they enjoy their stay. Right from the first day as we sent in questions before we even decided on this place, he responded to all our questions and more. Thanks for everything Stan! :)

Outstanding experience for the whole gang!

Our greatest thanks for an incredible experience from beginning to end! Stan was great in communicating via email, phone or text even before we arrived. Very prompt! The place is amazing! Three floors so that everyone has plenty of space to spread out. And the house is stocked with every thing you might need. We hosted dinner for family in the area 2 nights in a row (total of 24 people for dinner) and it was fabulous!! Plenty of fridge space, cookware, eating space! The views are amazing, and the property is just the right distances to TC and Charlevoix (not too far, but not too close). It is also close to the secluded (but small) Norwood beaches to make you feel like you are really somewhere special. Our kids roamed the fields on the property- picking berries in the morning and flying kites in the afternoon. What a treat! Thanks Stan! We will definitely recommend your place, and might even be back ourselves!

Castle Farms Wedding Retreat

Stayed at this place for a week this summer after a wedding at the Castle. Short drive to the castle. Far enough away from everything but close enough too. House (or should I say "mansion"?) is clean, well maintained, stocked with necessities and includes a sweet view.

About the host

Host profile image
I bought my first property when I was 18 and sold my car for the down payment. That started my adventure in owning and managing rental properties and it's been an exciting experience. Even though real estate investing is one of my passions, my real passion is riding my Harley. I'm fortunate enough to be able to ride a great deal. Across town or across the country. Every ride is a good ride!

I've also traveled a lot internationally and my three favorite international destinations are Rio De Janeiro, Moscow and Caracas Venezuela. My three domestic choices are Sturgis South Dakota, home of the Sturgis Bike Rally, Chicago and Newport Rhode Island. I love pasta, however, primarily eat plant based foods. I like finishing off a meal with a bit of Auchentoshan, Chardonnay or a PBR.

The property you are reviewing is one of a kind. It's 155 years old was moved in 3 pieces in it's original condition from downtown Charlevoix approximately 18 years ago. It was initially a 16 bedroom boarding house. It was reassembled and every major system in the house was replaced. The first floor has the original hard wood flooring although the entire home looks like it was recently built. The character of the property is remarkable. The views are one of a kind.

The home is fully stocked with all the necessities when you check in. Paper products, coffee, etc. All you'll need to pick up on the way in is your dinner selection. The rest will be there for you to get you going. And if you want me to have steaks waiting in the fridge with a few bottles of wine or a case of beer, I can do that too.

My goal is to make your experience memorable. When you vacation here I want it to be the best I can make it for you and will do what I can to make that happen.

If you have any questions at all please contact me...

Thanks again for your interest!

Stan

Why they chose this property

The character, the spaciousness and the absolutely priceless, unmatched year round, expansive, one of a kind, Lake Michigan and wilderness views. The view is the #1 compliment received when people visit. It is stunning year round and truly one of a kind. The interior of the property is large, open and clean. You won't be disappointed in any aspect of your stay.

What makes this property unique

This stunning home with unquestionable character is unlike any other you've experienced. Completely rebuilt in 2005, the first life of this home was as a boarding house in downtown Charlevoix. It was disassembled, moved and reassembled at it's current location. All of the systems of the house were replaced including electrical, plumbing, heating, etc. Multiple decks with collectively over 3000 square feet of deck space, stainless appliances, expansive granite counters, high ceilings, original hardwood floors, 5 original claw foot tubs, 52 Pella windows, 2 8'x8' double pane glass panels overlooking Lake Michigan on the 3rd floor, and multiple original windows add to this home's incredible uniqueness.

Rural, remote setting. Wildlife abounds. All within 10 minutes of downtown Charlevoix.
