Wonderful family getaway

West Mountain Lodge was perfect for our extended family. October in the woods is lovely. As stated in previous reviews, the gravel driveway can be challenging in spots especially when the leaves are covering a great deal of it, but all vehicles made it. We enjoyed exploring the property with hikes, using the hot tub and relaxing at the fire pit. The kitchen was well equipped but does need a can opener. The beds were comfortable ( one twin bed in the loft has a broken slat) for all. We appreciated the ample supply of towels for bathing and hot tub. You can’t find a better view from the front porch!!!

Great views and silence

Plenty of room for family and places to sleep. Nice views of the mountain all around hot tub was clean and nice. Driveway is steep and rough made it up fine in a minivan just need to keep momentum. Had a problem with a toilet that I was informed of and they fixed it immediately the next morning. Chairs in dining room are the only complaint they have loose and missing bolts and are flimsy. Highly recommend it one the better mountain houses I've rented.

Great spot for a weekend getaway

Nice view of the mountains from the deck. We spent a lot of time sitting out there. Driveway is long and uphill. A car can make it but very carefully. SUV or truck would be recommended. Overall everyone had a good time.

We are Stuart and Kristen West. When we say we know what we like and we’re not afraid to take risks to get it, we aren’t kidding. Three months after meeting, we were engaged. And five months after that, we were married. We knew what we wanted, and we didn’t waste any time on starting our adventure. Almost two years later we had our first daughter Elah. A couple years after that she became a big sister, welcoming our second daughter Sailor.
Pensacola FL is where we call home, however we love to travel and explore the world. We are always looking for our next adventure. In the summer of 2022, we bought a 30 ft sailboat and sailed our family across the Gulf from Pensacola to Key West for five weeks. . Stuart is also a pastor and Kristen a designer. When we sold one of our rental properties back in Pensacola, we discussed what and where to reinvest. Western North Carolina has always been a favorite area for us. Stuart went to Montreat College just outside of Asheville and the Blue Ridge Mountains hold a significant place in his life. We found this cabin online but had never been to Lake Toxaway. Risk and adventure? We’re in! We were under contract sight unseen. We fell in love with the Lake Toxaway area the first time we drove up. And the cabin had so much potential! We quickly got to work renovating the cabin to make it more modern and adding our individual touches. Recently we purchased the adjacent thirty acres with creeks, trails, little waterfalls, and room to expand. Our dream for this property is to have a place for our girls to make memories that they will someday share with their families. We love the panoramic mountain views at sunrise and sunset, telling stories around the bonfire, hiking the forest, and cozying up by the franklin stove at the end of a great day.

This property offers the privacy of being off the beaten path but the luxury of being 15 minutes to everything. when we are on the property we have a sense of peace, a sense of healing. The mountains seems to wrap their arms around you and let you know everything is going to be ok. This property is very unique, it offers all the comforts of home with that genuine mountain cabin feel. Come visit, once you stay you will want to come again and again!
