Lovely Location
Home is very spacious and loved having so many bathrooms. Property manager was very resposive in all communications. Boat Dock is very nice and well maintained. Loved having the pool and used it daily but it does need some maintenance.

Great location and very spacious! Plenty of room for our group of 7 adults & 6 kiddos. Loved the pool table, tennis court & swimming pool. Lots to see & do within a short drive.

Very functional for teens and adults
We had a family reunion at this location. There were twelve adults, a6-year old, two 3 year olds, two 2 year old and an infant. While I absolutely loved the setting, the lake, the pool, the pool table and the lodge in general, I was nervous about the safety of the kiddos. There is no childproofing at the lodge. There were no incidents, but I worried much more than I anticipated. Penny, the on-site caretaker, is absolutely wonderful. She and her husband were more than hospitable. They helped us and communicated with us in a very professional manner. I felt very comfortable knowing that she was there to address any of our concerns. This beautiful lodge and location is perfect for teenagers and adults. I do not recommend it for a group with small children.

We had a large family ranging from 3 years to 73 years, 4 that were 18-19 years and several in between for a total of 14. We loved it! Penny was so easy to deal with and so accommodating and helpful. Already talking about next trip!!!

Run down, in need of maintenance and a good cleaning
This is a beautiful, nostalgic house with a great view of Lake Barkley. Nice size and quite private. The home is very interesting and has a neat history. For the price, we expected it to be very well kept as well We were wrong. The front door is very hard to lock from the inside and impossible from the outside - so whenever you leave the front door is not locked. The outside has grass growing where it shouldn't, weeds in every garden and bush. Extra and broken chairs, pool equipment, and general stuff is all around. The kayaks are broken and take on water with only two paddles for three persons. The dock has boards missing and some turning up and coming loose. The pool's filtering system is mostly clogged with only one of the four ports working. The water in the pool is so cloudy you cant see your feet on the second step down. In the house, bulbs are out, fixtures don't work, shower heads shoot sideways, shower handles fall off and dirt is aplenty at wall edges , door jambs and anywhere else a mop doesn't go. Light switches are a nightmare - good luck figuring things out on your first night. We never did figure out how to adjust the ac temperature. And, I must say, it is strange to have someone living on the lower level and being there the entire time we were - especially since we couldn't lock up when we weren't there. We had a good time but had to ignore the many issues. This place is very overpriced for the condition it is in.

House was nice, definitely big. Everything was as they said. Our did not all show so it was a little too big. But we made the best of it. Penny was very nice, and kept the pool clean every day. Definitely a nice place to stay if you have a large group.

Great lakefront property with tons of space and even more character.
Our families (4 adults & 4 teenagers) had a great time. The house is huge with bathrooms attached to every bedrooms. Huge kitchen and game room too. Although we spent most of our time out by the pool. Things you should know.... the house was built in 1970 and almost everything is original. Expect some quirkiness and patina. If you want a nice new 5 star resort, this is t it. But what it lacks in freshness, it makes up I character. Internet is satellite, so the wifi is not great. Penny (the property manager) lives below, but you’d never know she was there unless you need something or when she is cleaning the pool (which she does every morning). She is a great host and we never felt a lack of privacy. We would definitely stay again. .

Great family vacation. Entertainment for all ages.
Nichols Lodge is better than the pictures show. After considering a few other vacation homes, my family and I agreed on Nichols Lodge and it certainly did not disappoint. The house is somewhat dated but also has many quality aspects that gives it the unique characteristics we appreciated. It is so spacious, in fact we did a few games of hide and seek which was fun for the whole family. We agree with other comments about the WiFi but accepted it. Everyone had there own space and loved that each room had its own private bathroom. We were able to all sit together for our evening meal. We rented a boat for a day so the dock was a plus for getting everyone on and off the boat. We enjoyed kayaking, playing pool, fishing, roasting marshmallows over the fire, evening gatherings on the porch, and the sparkling clean pool was a hit everyday. Penny was fabulous and so accommodating; she brought out a lot of pool rafts for the kids and inflated what we brought as well. Thank you, Penny for accommodating us and taking a few family pictures for us. We would rent this house again. We truly enjoyed our vacation at Nichols Lodge.

Great family vacation spot
Our family of 19 met together and had a wonderful week swimming, boating, kayaking, and hanging out. It was a good place to gather during the pandemic.

Great vacation
This is a beautiful older home with an outstanding outdoor space. The view of the lake from the large swimming pool is the reason we have returned to this property twice! The home is in desperate need of TLC and the internet service did not work much at all but the overall experience was awesome. We had a wonderful family vacation at Nichol Lodge! Thank you!

Better than we expected
The pictures of Nichols Lodge on VRBO don't do it justice. It is a great house with lots of character. This place was much larger than we thought and was a perfect place for our family reunion. We truly enjoyed all aspects of the house...kitchen, dining room, game room, living room, porch and the fact that each bedroom had its own bathroom was a blessing. The house had the privacy like a retreat center yet the comfort of home with plenty of gathering space for our group of 13. We used the pool daily and Penny was diligent about keeping it clean. It really was nice having her there and working with her. A great bonus was being able to rent the pontoon boat so that we had lake access from the dock. We would definitely rent this house again. Despite the updates that would make this house more "modern" the 70's style definitely had its appeal...we stepped back in time and really connected as a family. The wifi wasn't great like others have said, however, we saw that as a bonus, because we spent more time together rather than on devices. We had 6 adults over 50 and 7 "kids" between 13 -27 years old. Thanks Penny for taking such good care of the place. We truly enjoyed our vacation on Lake Barkely.

Third time is a charm
Our family vacation at Nichol Lodge was great. We all had a good time, 16 of us mostly adults. Penny did a great job as before. The pool was sparkling clean every day. They have a great kitchen and if we needed anything Penny would get it for us right away. This is our third year to vacation at the lodge and it is a great place to stay. Richard Kroetz

Not having a boat created a hardship on us since we bought fishing licenses but thanks to Penny's husband , he helped and the last night and day were hooked up with a boat and enjoyed 2 sunset cruises 🍀Wifi needs improvement . Everything else was good New dining room was GREAT . Back next year .

Second time is even better
This was the second time we stayed in Nichol Lodge, the first time was 4 years ago. The best thing about Nichol Lodge this time was the caretaker Penny. This lady did every thing she could to make our stay better. The house was clean and spotless. She cleaned the pool every day but you never knew she was around except if we called her for something. Their were 16 of us and this was year 27 for our family vacation. We have rented many places all over the southern Midwest but I must say this was the best. If I could only change one thing I would ask for a better wifi system. This one works but sometimes it was hard to log on but that is a very minor problem. We are taking a vote of the family and it looks like we will go back again next year. Bernadette and Richard Kroetz family.

Pool was great. The Lodge needs some updating.
The house had some great features including a well maintained pool. Unfortunately the house itself could use some updating. It rained heavily one day and the roof leaked. Several of the bathrooms held water in the tub while we showered and the faucet was broke in one bathroom. One of the burners in the kitchen did not work along with the garbage disposal. The house was clean but cluttered. We loved the on-site manager. She was up early every morning cleaning the pool and assisted us whenever we had questions or concerns. I would recommend the property to friends but let them know that it could use some updating. We did enjoy boating, jet skiing and days by the pool during our visit. We visited Patti's 1880's Settlement on Land Between the Lakes and enjoyed an early dinner. They were able to seat our large party easily and we loved the flower pot bread. We have enjoyed several trips to Lake Barkley as a family and will return again in the future. We will definitely consider Nichol Lodge as an option for our large party but recommend a little maintenance on the property.

Fabulous vacation home!
We couldn't have asked for a better place to have our family reunion. The house was absolutely perfect with each bedroom having it's own bathroom, multiple living areas, a huge kitchen, decks, the pool and the lake! The house was so spacious that even with 20+ people, we never felt crowded. The kids could be playing and making noise in one area while a few adults relaxed in another for some quiet conversation. And each bedroom was so roomy that if you wanted total solitude, you could go to your room and not feel like you were locked away in a closet. There were many 'bonuses' too, like the commercial ice maker, the air compressor for blowing up the many pool floats and toys, the THREE full size refrigerators and the plentiful parking that made things so much easier for our large group. We were there during a heat wave so the pool was much appreciated and used extensively. Penny, the property manager, cleaned it every morning and kept it in tip top shape for us. And speaking of Penny, she was a gem - ready to assist us with anything we needed but never in the way or intrusive in the least. Everyone in our group was extremely happy with the house - we couldn't have asked for a better place.

The house and property were fabulous.
The house and decor of the house was fabulous. I thought I was in an English Mansion with all the beautiful antiques. Every bedroom had a different theme. All my children and grandchildren were in the beautiful, large swimming pool 2 or 3 times a day. We took several tours around the lake on the pontoon boat and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. In August we did not have good Bass fishing but the Catfish were biting and we had a delicious fish dinner on Friday. Our caretaker Penny was excellent she answered questions and went out of her way to make to make sure this was a memorable family vacation for our family of 12. Penny went out of her way to bring videos for our 4 and 5 year old grandchildren which they watched between swimming in the pool. My 4 year old grandson learned to swim and dive in the pool. My grandchildren will remember this vacation for a lifetime for the older children they enjoyed shooting pool and playing tennis and basketball and darts. Family game time brings a family together and brings many memories sharing time together.

Our place to make memories
This is our 2 nd visit and already booked for next year. We love the place. It is comfortable and well equipt with everything you need. The best part is a wonderful lady named Peggy who is there to help. We love her. There were 8 adults and 7 children and the time just flew. The lake is wonderful for fishing.

So Perfect for our Family
We rented this beautiful conference center for our family reunion and I couldn't have asked for anything more perfect. The kitchen is so fully equipped there were gadgets we didn't even use. The bar and pool table along with extra seating, numerous televisions, sufficient beds and 6 1/2 extra large baths were perfect. If you like tennis there is a private fenced tennis court, child's play house, swings, the most perfect pool, hot tub and dock right on the main lake. The fire pit supplied us a place for roasting marshmallows, the grills for cooking and the boats for fishing and fun. Although we had many side trips planned, no one wanted to leave the lodge. It was so perfect we hope to return again. I highly recommend it.

Make sure the A/C works!
This house was the perfect configuration for our 4-family get-together, with plenty of space and several distinct gathering areas so we never felt crowded. It would have been perfect overall except that the A/C on the main floor was broken all week in 95-degree heat (was broken from before we got there until after we left). The inside temps were about 82 degrees during the day. The owner supplied us with lots of fans and kept telling us the unit would be fixed by the next day until about Wednesday, when he gave up making predictions. The owner reimbursed us $300 for the broken A/C (we asked for more but were denied). Fair compensation? You decide!
