About this property

BEACH FRONT with PRIVATE WALKWAY, Pet-friendly. Minimum 7 nights, Sat-to-Sat

Once through the security gates, wind your way through the dense pine forest, over the salt marsh bridge, and marvel at the quiet beauty of coastal South Carolina's Low Country. Watch for snowy egrets, great blue herons, alligators and turtles on the creek banks. Plenty of parking for your extended family when you arrive at our comfortable beach-front house. Step out to the screened-in porch and enjoy a cool breeze as you take in a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean. Grab your towel and raid our 'beach-toy' closet for beach chairs and lots of playthings for the kids.
After a relaxing swim and a dig in the sand, take a walk down the beach to the Baruch Foundation's Hobcaw Barony. Undeveloped and preserved for perpetuity, witness this unparalleled sanctuary used by Clemson, USC and other institutions for important ecological research.
Please note: DeBordieu Club will extend guest privileges for dining or pool access for a fee of $200/day, plus any additional fees/charges incurred. Visit the DeBordieu Club website for more information.
Beyond DeBordieu, excellent dining and shopping are minutes away at Pawley's Island, or at the historic Port of Georgetown along the lovely waterfront boardwalk. Afterwards, return to the splendid isolation of the Lemmon House at DeBordieu Colony, SC. We're so happy to share this experience with you!

So comfortable

We had a wonderful week at the Lemmon house. Simple, comfortable house - no bells and whistles but had everything we needed. The kitchen was well stocked with every utensil I was looking for!( unusual for a rental). Communication was stellar. We hope to come again. ❤️

A wonderful time was had by all!

We had never been through such a formal process in renting previous beach house in Indian Rocks Beach FL so it seemed like a lot of paperwork; however the resulting good time was worth it! Thank you!

Wonderful getaway!

We have been going to Pawleys Island and Litchfield for 40+ years but have never stayed at Debordieu. I can't say enough good things about this entire area and can now include Debordieu in that statement. The house was cozy and clean, tucked back in the dunes from the beach with a boardwalk leading out. There is a closet available to renters that has beach chairs, toys, etc, and although we brought out own things, this is not normally something you would expect as part of a rental. Air conditioner worked perfectly (I haven't always been able to say that) and even in late September, it was still pretty hot outside and necessary. Hurricane Florence had rolled through NC the week prior to our visit and Georgetown, SC was in jeopardy of flooding to the point where they were worried highway 17 to Georgetown would flood. The owner called me personally to apprise me of the situation and I thought that was really professional of her (and she is very nice)! We have never rented through VRBO before and the experience was easy and every bit as convenient as renting through the traditional methods with the local rental operators in the area. Linens and cleaning service was included in the price so we did not have to worry about bringing our own sheets, etc. It is worth noting that the beach and cottage are almost 4 miles from hwy 17 so a trip to the store or dinner is a bit longer than it would be from Pawleys or Litchfield but proper planning mitigates this. There are not a lot of choices for bringing a pet to the beach - most of the houses we've seen online looked shabby and not so nice or way too expensive to the point we've always left our dog home. That was definitely NOT the case with the Lemmon House and we were finally able to bring her with us. She had a fantastic time chasing the waves and seagulls and even a few crabs. I think she was a little depressed when we had to leave! We are so glad we chose to stay here and we will definitely be back!

Perfect for Large Family - Our Third Visit

The Lemmon House always delivers what it promises. Separate suites for 4 families with large common areas for the family to gather. Short boardwalk to beach. The house is fully equipped with lots of beach toys for kids and a nice screened in porch for evening adult get-togethers with adult beverages. Plenty of room for the 2 family dogs as well. Excellent communication with owners both before and during our stays. This is our 3rd summer at Lemmon House...we'll be back in 2 years for our 4th.

A Beautiful, comfortable, special place!

The Lemmon House is located just steps from the beach with room for 12. The great room is comfortable with a view of the ocean. The circular dinning table, complete with a lazy susan easily seats a family of ten. The screened in porch facing the ocean is perfect. The property is a short walk from a play ground complete with a basketball court and the beach club. We were there the first week of April so it wasn't hot. Still the boys went in the Ocean and enjoyed their skim boards. The house has a closet off the sheltered parking filled with buckets, beach chairs etc. At low tied we all walked south on the beach to Hobcaw Barony and the two palms that stand tall in the sand. Everyone found sharks teeth and beautiful shells to take home as souvenirs. I really can't say enough about how special this place is. And the owners are so responsive. Our family, ranging from 12 to 75, thoroughly enjoyed our vist!!!

Great experience

We loved this house so much the first time we visited two years ago that we signed up again this year for our biennial family reunion beach vacation. The layout of the house is great for multiple family groups, with good space for all. The kitchen is well laid out and very well stocked. The fact that it is dog friendly is a strong added bonus. The Lemmon sisters were most cordial and helpful before and during our stay. The guest Club membership was easy to use, and was very helpful for the golfers in our group. Thank you so much for sharing your house with us.

Perfect vacation home!

This was our second time staying at the Lemmon house and we plan to make it a regular yearly event. The house is perfect for our family; the way it's laid out, everyone has some privacy. The ocean is just a few steps away and the screened in porch is divine! DeBordieu is breathtaking. We are Carolina natives and love the low country but "Debbie-Doo" is like another world. We also love that we can include our 4-legged family members! Sally was very attentive and communicative. Can't wait til next year!!!

A breath of fresh air!

The Lemmon House was perfect for our multi generational family. It was clean, spacious, well furnished and the kitchen was well stocked with staples. We were pleasantly surprised with several availabilities: an extra roll of toilet paper in each bath, trash bags provided, etc. Our grandchildren LOVED the upstairs room, the children were quite comfortable on the main floor, and my husband and I were very pleased with our ground level private suite. The screened front porch with its' wonderful rockers made the home "worth the price of admission" in itself. We enjoyed the beach, the pool, the wildlife, and the week in general. Sally and Jane were very helpful and easy to work with. We would definitely rent this property again.

Fantastic dog-friendly beach house

This 5-bedroom beachfront house in the DeBordieu Colony was truly first class. The house sleeps 12 comfortably, and is pet friendly. The kitchen is very well stocked with dishes, glasses, coffee mugs and utensils. There is a large refrigerator/freezer in the kitchen, with a second refrigerator/freezer in the laundry room. There is a large washer and dryer in the downstairs laundry room. Parking off street is abundant. There is a screened porch facing the ocean, with a private boardwalk to the beach. There is a shower on the boardwalk, in addition to an enclosed outdoor shower on the lower level. The house includes a guest membership to the DeBordieu club, which allows access to the golf, tennis and beach club facilities. The two canine members of our family thoroughly enjoyed the porch and the numerous walks and runs on the beach and in the surf.

"Wonderful in August, Great anytime"

Our family spent a wonderful week @ Debordieu @ the Lemmon House. Multigenerational family vacationing together and loving every minute. We love Debordieu and love all it has to offer so we bring everything we need to relax, eat and soak up the sun. The Lemmon House was a great place for all of us to make more wonderful memories. Thank you so much for sharing your beach home with us. We will return. * The Lemmon House owners are the BEST I have worked with. .

Great Family Beach Vacation

This was the perfect vacation spot for our extended family. Loved the fact that the path to the beach was right outside our door....with a great outdoor shower to clean off the sand on the way home. The pool area, which was lovely, was a 1/3 of a mile walk along the beach or a very short drive. My family enjoyed the house as well. The screened in porch was a pleasure in the late afternoon and there was plenty of room for everyone to spread out. We would definitely return!

We Loved it!!

When you are going to spend a week in a house that you have never seen, you hold your breath and hope for the best. Driving through the gates of DiBordieu Colony, our fears were quickly put to rest. We were shortly on the doorstep of the Lemmon House. What a wonderful place to spend a week with your family; actually, a week was much too short, we would have loved to have stayed longer! The accommodations were perfect.....from the spacious living room, to the wonderful dining room table, to the kitchen that had everything we needed. The bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and spotless, as was the whole house. For our family - six adults and five children ages 9 and under - we could not have asked for a better setup. The girls thought they were in heaven with their upstairs room all to themselves, waking up in the morning to a beautiful ocean sunrise out the picture window. With the rental of a 9-passenger golf cart, we were able to take the the children on rides to experience alligators, sea turtles, jumping fish, and so many other forms of wildlife. It also provided easy trips to the pool and playground. Shopping on Pawley's Island was so convenient, and we especially loved the Fresh Market...we all wish we had one in our hometown. We poked around Georgetown and talked to many friendly townspeople, and one cloudy day went to Broadway on the Beach, not too far away, so the children could Build a Bear and Build a Racecar. The Lemmon family made sure they checked with us to see if all was well, and of course it was. We thank them for offering this wonderful home by the sea as a getaway for us, and we will be sure that the next time we are able to vacation as a family we will be back. We can't wait. We highly recommend the Lemmon House to anyone wanting a perfect place for a family gathering.

Leaving the "real world" for a week!

As soon as we entered the gates of Debordieu, we knew that we had chosen the right place to spend a few relaxing days away from it all! The approx. 4 mile drive to the house is along roads lined with beautiful trees draped in Spanish moss, and is never boring - you can feast your eyes on the gorgeous homes in the neighborhood, and on the wide variety of birds and other wildlife near the lakes and marshes. The house is very cozy, and has a laid back, welcoming feel about it - you can sense that the house has been much enjoyed since it was built about 30 years ago. Even though a few of the rooms could benefit from a little modernisation (e.g. master bathroom), everything we needed was there and worked! We loved the dining table with its lazy susan, too! It was "unseasonably" cool outside during our stay, but we came prepared, and were able to enjoy an almost empty beach with our two dogs - they had a blast! Unfortunately, we were unable to make use of our club membership while we were there - a bit too windy for tennis, and the pools were not open yet (naturally!). We did buy some very nice t-shirts at the tennis shop, though! Renting a golf cart from a store in nearby Pawley's Island was definitely a good decision - it was delivered and picked up promptly by friendly staff and was reasonably priced. It was great for exploring Debordieu, and for taking our recyclable items to the recycling area near the fire station. As hobby cooks, my daughter and I cooked most of our meals in the well-equipped kitchen, but also enjoyed some good fresh seafood in Georgetown and Murrells Inlet. It was a photographer's dream, and I was in my element from the moment the gorgeous orange sky heralded the coming sunrise over the ocean - definitely worth getting up for - until the sun set again. What we have missed most since our return to the "real world" is going to sleep and waking up to the sound of the waves - lovely! Contact by email and phone with the owners - daughters of one of the founding members of Debordieu Colony - was both professional and very pleasant. Hope to be in touch with you again one day!

Wonderful!!

The house was perfect for our group of 11. We all fit and didn't feel crowded at all. Everyone had their own space to be alone if they wanted. So much to do around the area. I have been to Georgetown many times as I have family that lives here. But many of my group have not been here before so it was so much fun showing them around. I needed the quiet time to decompress after a couple of huge changes in my life. The beach walks were great! The family time was fabulous! I would love to come back to Lemmon House in the future. No better way to spend Christmas!

Siblings Jane, Sally and Bill manage the Lemmon Family beach house.

Why they chose this property

Born & raised in small-town South Carolina, our father moved to Philadelphia to attend Temple University Medical School and later developed a successful surgical practice. Every summer Dad returned to SC with his growing family to vacation on the beach along the Grand Strand. In 1970, he purchased a beachfront lot as a charter member of DeBordieu Colony when the only residents for miles in any direction were pelicans, osprey, wild boar, deer, alligators and the rest of the natives of the unique coastal and estuary ecosystems of the Lowcountry. Today there are human neighbors as well, but DeBordieu is devoted to preserving hundreds of undeveloped acres as important habitat for SC wildlife.

What makes this property unique

*Private Gated Community *Private access to wide, beautiful sandy beach *Enjoy the private deck on the dunes while watching a spectacular sunrise over the Atlantic ocean *Seclusion: it's 4 miles from the gate on Hwy. 17 to our beachfront house *Walk down the beach to Hobcaw Barony-- an important undeveloped, protected nature preserve including marsh, estuary, dunes and beach on North Inlet *Unparallel access to protected estuary, nature paths, bird-watching, wildlife viewing, shell collecting-- even witness hatchling sea turtles scamper from their nests in the dunes down the beach and into the ocean!
