About this property
Welcome to the porch!
Looking to getaway, disconnect. No not completely out of reach. There is cell service if you choose to use it. Traipse off to the Hidden Star. Just 16 miles from Mt. Ida center. Welcome to the Porch near the Ouachita River. Bring your kayaks or side by side and do some back roadin'. This is a special little log cabin that we constructed from 2 separate log houses from the area. The 10 foot wrap around porch may be the main attraction or it might be the lower level hot tub deck. The outdoor gazebo is an extension of living area with a fireplace and another grill. Inside we've filled all 450 square feet with anything you might need for you stay in the backwoods. Comfy queen bed, barstools for 2 and a stack washer and dryer along with a huge shower. We have a nice sized refrigerator, a Smart over, griddle and even a cute little dishwasher.
You'll be surrounded by the quietness of the woods with chirping birds and the rustling of leaves in the breeze. Grab your fishing pole and go for a short hike down to the Ouachita River or jump on your side by side and head out on some dirt roads through the US Forest Service.

About the host
Hosted by Karen Hamilton
I have lived in Montgomery County my entire life growing up in Black Springs on an animal farm with cattle, swine, chickens, a dog or two and my trusty mare. When I drove 27 N to college I would pass by many beautiful places but I was always drawn to the Sweet Home neighborhood. As fate would have it, 20 years later I would own part of the neighborhood. My husband and I have enjoyed working on our little farm, building and remodeling things for the past 20 years. I am a retired art teacher and Jody is a retired mechanic but we still have full-time jobs running our automotive parts store in Mt. Ida and having fun with our grandchildren.
Why they chose this property
I think the neighborhood chose us. We had some friends that lived in the area who were downsizing their farm and wanted to sell us some acreage. We ended up buying 40 and then selling 35 of that to pay for the cabin we had started building. It's a quite secluded place close to the Ouachita River where we can spend time with family and friends.
What makes this property unique
After discovering an old rundown log building, we set out to reconstruct it into a livable cabin. We purchased a sawmill to cut replacement logs. Over the next 5 years, we sourced another log house and joined the two together.
