Time to recharge
This rental is absolutely perfect for a quiet get away. The cabin is CLEAN and so comfortable. The hummingbird feeder on the porch was a nice touch and frequented by hummingbirds. The outdoor shower was awesome. Marc and Lindy came up to greet us shortly after we got there. They are super nice people and truly care about your needs. We had a problem with the shower the first night. Marc was so attentive to our call that he wanted to come immediately to fix it. After worrying about us all night, Marc arrived promptly in the morning to make the repair. This is a top notch rental. If you are considering this cabin, do it. You won’t be sorry.

Like a piece of heaven on earth
Loved everything about this wilderness retreat. From the adventurous drive up the ridge to the stunning and clean place and then walking the one mile trail through the woods around the house. We saw a baby fawn and lots of blooming mountain laurels. Then we relaxed in the hammock and after that watched the sunset from the swing. There were even fruit and snacks, coffe tea and firewood ready for the outdoor fire pit. We sure want to come back. Mark and Lindy were wonderful Hosts and we’re thankful we could experience the mountains like that. And it’s close to the cute little town of Wytheville.

Cozy Getaway
Had a wonderful stay at the cabin this weekend. The property is just what I was expecting for a fun glamping weekend. The windows in this place let in a bunch of light and the bedroom makes it feel like you're in the middle of the forest. I would come back very soon if it already wasn't booked out throughout most of the summer. The hosts were very sweet people and I appreciated that they came up from their house down the road and introduced themselves. It made me feel very safe staying out on the property in the middle of the woods. 10/10

Mountain top bliss!!
Mark & Lindy - your VRBO cabin was perfect for me. You thought of everything!! And were so kind and helpful. Wonderful queen bed, had the top 3 best showers of my life in your outdoor shower. Honestly I wasn’t ready to leave after just one night. I’ll be back for multiple nights someday soon and hope to meet my cousin there or bring a friend!

PERFECT for us
We were absolutely thrilled with our stay!! Charming, comfortable, super clean, quiet, with many areas to sit/hang out at, and gorgeous views from nearly every window. Hosts were wonderful and welcoming. Trail on the property is amazing, so much work went into it and it’s really something. It is such a privilege this wonderful hide away gets shared. We can’t wait to go back!! One note, I wouldn’t attempt the drive in a lower sedan.

Weekend Getaway
Couldn't have asked more for our weekend getaway. The house is exactly what we needed for a quiet weekend away from it all. Fit all of our needs perfectly. Marc and Lindy were very accommodating. They meet with us when we checked in for a brief introduction and let us know that they would be available at any time if we had any questions. The house is exactly as described. Sits on acres of beautiful, wooded property that backs up to the Jefferson National Forest. Even comes with its own hiking trail right out of the front door. If you want quiet and peaceful, this is it. They even opened their lovely home to our large dog. He had a great time sniffing out all of the deer that meander through the property. If you want an escape from it all, with good access to great hiking, don't hesitate to give this property a try.

Relaxing cabin stay
For anyone who wants some relaxation and quiet!! The drive back to the house was unique because of all the leaves covering the road. It was well kept and super clean. Used the kitchen which was well stocked. Comfortable bed and a lovely porch to enjoy the morning air. So peaceful you didn't want to leave. The hike around the place was just right for some exercise. The owners were welcoming and very friendly. Very helpful in providing info on what there is to do in the area.

New favorite place
If you're looking for a fantastic, secluded place look no more. My husband and I booked this place for a week for our honeymoon and it was absolutely perfect. Very quiet and peaceful. Pictures online don't do the cabin justice at all. Everything was provided. The only thing we needed to get was food to cook. They even provided some spices!!! The driveway up to the cabin can be intimidating if you're not used to doing that, but after doing it for a day or two it was easier. Being that you are on the side of a mountain to views where spectacular. Our hosts stoped by shortly after we checked in just to give us the rundown of the property and even gave us some food recommendations that turned out to be wonderful. There's a hiking trail right outside the cabin that leads to some trails in the state park. It exceeded our expectations than some. We'll definitely be sharing this with our friends and coming back very soon.

Great stay
My girlfriend and I loved our one night stay at this beautiful cabin. The location and scenery was amazing, but I will warn to choose your mode of transportation wisely! Pretty steep gravel roads to get up the mountain. But overall, we had a great time and would definitely go back again.

Great secluded getaway
The best vacation rental we have ever experienced! Very organized kitchen with everything you need to cook or grill a dinner. Comfortable bed. Hot tile shower. Great views. Hiking trail. Fire pit. Outdoor shower. Balconies and porches for morning coffee drinking. Wonderful people who put their heart and soul into building this masterpiece of a small home away from home. The craftsmanship made the home very inviting. We will be returning here for a longer stay in the future.

Cabin retreat
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cabin! The owners did a wonderful job of making you feel like you are in a vacation home. They provide all the essentials and then some! We cooked hotdogs and burgers on the provided grill and enjoyed eating on the spacious porch. Bringing our dog was a huge reason we wanted to come here, so he could enjoy walks in the woods. The trails provided us with a great opportunity to see some wildlife, we spotted turkey, deer and a baby bear! (Thank goodness we didn’t see momma) The owners were extremely understanding when I let them know before hand that our pup wasn’t used to strangers, and allowed us to just call or text if we needed any help. The road leading to the cabin is indeed rough but it’s worth the peace at the top! The trail going around the property is narrow but really fun to walk, we had a great time navigating! It’s a neat option to wander as there is even one spot that turns into a national forest trail. The porches are wonderful for sitting and watching the sunrise/sunset. The crickets and cicadas singing at nightfall will lull you to a fast sleep, and you will rest well on the super comfortable bed!

Even better than we expected
We wanted a secluded cabin in the woods, and that’s exactly what we got! I mean it was on a mountain and in the woods. The views were amazing. Cabin had enough mountain touches to it without going overboard. You definitely felt like you were in a cabin in the mountains with all the nice wood inside but, it wasn’t like there were fish lamps and bears hanging on the wall and went to much. The air-conditioning worked wonderfully, the appliances were wonderful, the water was delicious, and the water pressure in the shower was fantastic. We will definitely be back. I don’t know how many wonderful amazing things to say about this place.

We had an awesome time
This newly-built house with lots of attention to detail was clean and comfortable, with everything you need for your stay... and with a comfortable bed and great showers (inside and outside). The front porch or hammock or swing are great for sitting outdoors with a cup of tea and a book. We did some hiking in the woods on well-kept trails, and the views of the surrounding mountains are spectacular. One day we went into Whytheville to visit the Homestead Museum which is well-worth a visit to learn about the history of the Whytheville area. Another day we drove about 10 minutes to the General Store on top of Walker Mountain for the best ice cream ever. It was great to beat the heat of the city at this mountain retreat, and even though air conditioning is available, we didn't need it. We will be back.

About the host

Hosted by Lindy Stewart

Host profile image
Being avid backpackers,we desired to live as deep in the woods as was possible. So we started homesteading this property 23 years ago and love it so much that we thought that, perhaps, others would enjoy it as much as we do. So we built another cottage on the property and look forward sharing the experience.

Why they chose this property

Convenient to the nearby town of Wytheville but totally secluded. To access this property you must, first, find your way up the mountain. If you're the adventurous type and don't mind a drive up a well maintained dirt road , we think you will find it worth the effort. As you start up through a typical Appalachian holler you pass a by a few local residences but as you venture further up the road it turns into more of a National Forest type setting. We are located 1.6 miles off the main road on a private, gated property and situated on a ridge top with incredible views of the nearby mountains.

What makes this property unique

Depending on the time of year, you can enjoy long hikes in the adjoining Jefferson National Forest, forage for wild mushrooms, visit a Paleozoic fossil site just up the trail or explore the Appalachian Trail on the next ridge over. In the spring the rhododendron and mountain laurel are spectacular. The Blue Ridge Parkway is about 30 miles away and the tallest mountain in Virginia, Mt Rogers with Grayson Highlands State Park and the famous wild ponies are also close by. You also might like to check out the Virginia Creeper Trail where you can rent a bike and spend the day coasting down an old railroad grade through spectacular scenery. The nearby town of Wytheville is only 8 miles distant and boasts two micro breweries the newly renovated Milwald Theater, several interesting museums and many eclectic eateries.
