The Abbey - Historical Cape May Villa w/reno coming for summer 2023!
Cape May’s most photographed home, the John B McCreary House (the “Abbey”) built in 1869 for a wealthy Coal baron in the Gothic Revival style influenced by the great medieval churches of Europe is located at the historic district’s heart one block from town and the beach. The home will be undergoing extensive renovations this spring, with a new double height ceiling kitchen with a fireplace, new bathrooms, restored floors and a professional décor update to Cape May’s most spectacular home. Watch the horse drawn carriages go by from shaded porches and verandas and enjoy the use of a lawn large enough for small weddings on a extensive property with room for up to 10 cars right in the middle of downtown Cape May.

This is a really unique, beautiful, historic home in an amazing location. This was our 3rd time staying here and we love the house and the proximity to everything. We parked our cars and walked almost everywhere. Thank you, Jake!
The moment you arrive at this home you will be in awe. The amount of thought and detail that went into the design of this space really takes the experience to the next level. Before we left, we had to go through and look at every room one more time. The outdoor space is magical and there is ample parking for a large group. We had a private chef come to the house one night and it was wonderful. The bathrooms are so nice and very clean. If you get a chance to stay in this home you must… you’ll never forget it!
Spectacular house close to the beach and shopping. We couldn’t have wished for a nicer place to stay. The kitchen in particular became the hangout room where all 13 of us could sit comfortably and socialize for hours on end.
We were stunned by how beautiful and well-appointed this property was. The listing looks so appealing, but the house is even more impressive in person.
It was impeccably clean and gorgeously decorated. I could have wandered around the house for hours just observing all of the interesting artwork and curios.
The mattresses are all new and very comfortable, each bathroom is stocked with luxurious towels and high-end toiletries. The kitchen is not only aesthetically stunning, but also well-stocked - from muffin tins to stand mixers to cocktail shakers and more.
We had a couple of questions during our stay and the hosts were very responsive, super friendly and accommodating.
We rented the house in November and Cape May is still bustling at that time of year, which made the location of the house perfect as well. Just a short walk to the beach, Washington Street Mall, Congress Hall, etc.
We have stayed at various properties in Cape May over the last decade and this one is by far the loveliest. We got in touch with the host about booking another stay before we had even left! I can't wait to go back!
Historic, Huge Updated Victorian close to everything!
Don’t miss the chance to stay here if you can! We’ve been coming to Cape May for years and stayed in several gorgeous homes in great locations, but this property is really unbelievable! Absolutely humongous. Every bedroom had its own bath. The kitchen and bathrooms were top of the line updated, the beds were very comfortable and all linens—top quality—were provided. The rest of the house is simply beautiful inside and out, with gorgeous antique furniture and other features and design details that make historic Victorians so special. The home was also really well stocked—high-end soap and bath products in every bathroom, coffee and sweeteners, paper towels, dish/laundry soap, garbage bags—it was all there! The yard and garden and wraparound porches were gorgeous and had nice rockers, too. On top of all this, location, location, location! 1 block to the beach, 1.5 blocks to the Washington Street Mall, and a fabulous bakery (Madison’s), excellent coffee shop (Avalon Coffee) best bagels in Cape May (Bagel Time), plus quick bites (pizza, Mexican, smoothies) all just a block away. The owners/hosts were also lovely and great to work with and responded super-quickly to my last minute questions. The 11am checkout (rather than 10) made for a more relaxing last morning. Don’t be surprised to see people taking pictures of the exterior! Even having seen the pics in advance, when we pulled up, we were awestruck. In sum, this is a very special rental opportunity. I hope to return!
The Abbey was an amazing place for my family to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. The Victorian home was beautifully restored. The location was perfect, with the beach restaurants and shops a short walk away.
