About this property

Hidden Gem! Great views, fireplace, stars & nature

Escape to this wonderful retreat with views of meadows, ocean & redwoods. Cozy stone-hearth fireplace provides an invitation for conversations deep into the night. Vintage daybed surrounded by the views provides a great place for reading & sipping tea. Big deck & sunroom. A cathedral ceiling & open floor plan gives a sense of space & relief, yet still provides visual privacy. Night sky is super dark, great for stars. Special “stargazing room” w/ large skylight. Horse experiences available.
The space
On many nights the sound of the ocean is a wonderful lullaby, complemented at times by distant frog song. The spring mornings are awash with birdsong. Watching the Wild Turkey or Mule Deer come out in the meadow is a sweet experience.

This has an open, studio floorplan, so none of the bedrooms close off with walls and door. Downstairs, in the room to the backside of the fireplace, is the king bed. There is an upstairs loft area with a queen bed, desk, chairs, and half bath. There is also another loft with single bed accessed by the captain's ladder, and the stargazing room beyond that. There are additional foldout beds that can be put on the floor and in the stargazing room to make it a king sized sleeping space. And there is a daybed overlooking the meadow, that can be a sleeping area. The captain's ladder and loft is not intended for children due to the nature of the ladder. The sofa can be slept on as well of course.

We offer "Mindscape exploration with horses" experiences here (airbnb . com experience # 3624145) and if it is booked for the time you want, just ask us with as much notice as possible to see if an appointment for you can be added to the schedule. Also, there is no cell coverage here, but wifi calling works great. If you want a truly grounding EMF free experience you can put the wifi on the provided timer or turn it off altogether. (Or have us remove it before your stay.) The house next door is also an AirBnB.

Please also sign up for the number of people that will be staying, as more people causes more wear and tear on the property and on the cleaning duties. This is budgeted for, and is covered by an extra guest fee for each person 6 or more.

Beautiful Home Away from Home

This was the main highlight of our fun vacation in Fort Bragg / Mendocino. The house is right at the border of the forest and has excellent views of the both the forest and the ocean. Keep at least a night to view the sunset from the bed as viewing the sunset is worth it from the house when you're not on the beach. The greenhouse / glasshouse attached to the house was where we ate most meals as a family under the stars. Seeing deer wandering around while sipping on wine was the best combination of being in nature and relaxing. My preschooler daughter had a lot of fun just being outside playing and running around: it's beautiful! There is also a cozy room upstairs for star gazing which has its own charm. The place was clean, and everything we needed was provided for. The location is convenient as it was barely a minute away from the highway. The hosts were responsive, polite, courteous and very helpful. The went out of their way to accommodate us and resolve any concerns we had. We couldn't have asked for more. We definitely see ourselves visiting this property again!

It was a cool spot. There are two lofts upstairs in either side of the house and another room downstairs. There are though no doors to any of the rooms. It’s a wide open yet somehow secluded floor plan. Very cool for families with kids. There are no TVs and not working WiFi and no reception.

Inglenook

My two grown sons and I try to get up to the Ft. Bragg area for a few days every year about this time, and we found this place to be just about perfect in every way. Owners John and Wendy were excellent hosts, both friendly and accommodating. The house itself had tons of character, something I always look for in accommodations when we stay there in that area. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Truly a hidden gem!

We absolutely loved our stay here!!! It was cozy and welcoming and a perfect home away from home. Our main priorities when staying anywhere are cleanliness and safety and this cabin was perfect in those regards. Everything was very clean and in working order and John was a great host. We loved the unique character and features of this cabin! The kids loved the loft areas, exploring the grounds and reading the books, and we loved that it was private and remote while still being close to town and the beach. Being in the forest while also being able to see the ocean was magical. Highly recommended! Staying here was a highlight of our trip.

Ft Bragg

Fantastic stay. What a cool property. Quiet, remote and cozy. Just like we wanted. We arrived after dark (the drive up the private road was a little creepy at night. Lol) so we did not get a full appreciation of the view. Awoke in the morning to a view of the ocean on the horizon and deer in the adjoining pasture. The house itself is amazing. It’s kind of like I just walked into my grandparents’ house. Complete with China cabinets and family photos. It also had a great little library. It has all of the appliances you would need, not super modern but in good working order. Great Wi-Fi, if it isn’t working when you get there make sure the router by the front door is plugged in, the previous guests may have wanted a true getaway. There was zero AT&T cell coverage so the Wi-Fi calling was clutch for us. There are plenty of beds but since it is essentially one big room with 2 open lofts privacy is hard to come by. Overall, an incredible stay. Highly recommended.
