Where do I start.. from the moment we pulled up to the moment we left we were in awe of this place. It was everything we hoped it would be and more for our stay in France. The home was perfect for my mum and I with the two bedrooms upstairs. The cottage La Tourelle was set in its own private space with huge patio overlooking the pond. Out the kitchen window, which is set in the round tower, you can see the beautiful pool and pond water, the most perfect view when making our coffee in the morning. The place is spotless and has everything you need to cook dinners or bake, if that is what you would wish to do. We didn't :) There was a lovely sitting room in the top part of the tower, off the double bedroom - it was the perfect spot to relax at night with a book or your iPad and a glass of wine :)
The location was wonderful as well. Every day we would get in our car and explore one of the many villages near by. We went to Chablis (which is the most beautiful town) to the open air market on Sunday. We drove to Vezelay (another gorgeous village) and saw the Basilica of Mary Magdalene. We explored Auxerre, Accolay, Noyers and Flavigny sur Ozerain (where Chocolat was filmed) and other little towns not to far from Vermenton. The countryside of Bourgogne is the most beautiful I have ever seen (and I am from Ireland) and the people even nicer. Even though the language was a challenge some times, everyone was very patient and helpful. We came at low season and it proved to be challenging as a lot of places were still not open for the tourist season. But I am very glad to have experienced this area, more as a local than a tourist. The towns were quieter and we mingled with the locals I think pretty well :)
Cinda, the owner, is English speaking and was wonderful and was there when ever we needed anything or had a question. I can't thank her and her family enough, for opening up their property for rent. We would not have had the same experience in a hotel. Staying at La Tourelle, was like a home away from home.
The village Vermenton is only a 10 minute walk away, with a great supermarket, boulangerie, and bank.. plus gas/petrol station there as well. everything you needed, in this most beautiful old village. For our first visit to France, and Bourgogne, this could not have been any better than I could have wished for. Thank you Cinda! We have been raving about your place to all our family and friends!! Wish I could be back there right now! :)
