The property is a special place. Three acres to wander and explore, sit on the beach, or get out on the water. Fully restored (‘22-’23) cottage, called “Periwinkle” is meticulously appointed, and super clean. A very cheerful place for a couple's romantic weekend, a friends’ reunion, or a family get together. The water views are “soul-cleansing”, and visible through the entire back of house. Large deck gives you a >200 degree view of water with well over 300 ft of waterfront across two waterways. Hundreds of flowering plants, and hundreds of bird species are constantly bringing something new to look at.

Remote working? No problem, gigabit optical/cable to house WI-FI, and 3 TV monitors. There is a small desk and fold out table to spread out. Smart TV in the living room provides some pre-loaded streaming; bring your fire tv stick or game console to hook up in the living room or one of the bedrooms. There's a large chess set in closet, including competition timer. Also there are >150 DVDs, and 2 DVD players, for family movie night. Use the new premium power-recline leather furniture to relax after a hard day of playing or working. If you are staying for a while, the laundry room has a full sized washer and dryer. Novels and history books on the Northern Neck are around the house, as well as a player's guitar (by request).

Pets: We will allow up to two dogs, upon approval (no cats or other pets). There are stipulations to bringing a dog to the property including: dogs only; no dogs are allowed on the furniture or beds (if your dog can not stay off furniture please find another place to rent);
dogs must be over a year old, house broken and non-chewers.

Bringing an infant/toddler? We provide a porta-crib w/sheet, and a jogging stroller on property. There is a toddler high chair in the kitchen (or closet). Let us know so we can make sure they are accessible. This saves you car space!

New pier/dock was built in March '23, and there is a marina just across the river, so bring your power boat (MWL 4-5'), or just string a hammock and enjoy the sun. You can fish from the yard or dock, check the rules on vmrc.org for license. No fishing gear provided.

There are also kayaks, paddle boards, and floats to use as part of your stay, housed in the boat shed you'll also find a couple beach chairs to use, and basketball/soccer ball, bocce, croquet. Basketball goal available, and 9-hole disc golf course marked along with instructions provided to renters.

What is the craziest, most awesome thing left? There is a camping hammock in the closet with a sleeping bag. It holds 300 lbs. Just right for a star-lit night under the trees for one or maybe two small guests during your stay. Don't worry, we didn't count it (the additional air mattress or the leather couch) in sleeping spots... Bring your bikes, frisbees, hiking boots, and swim trunks; there’s so much to do! xz

Renovations include new heat pump/central air with duct work, new plumbing, fixtures, and new electrical/lighting/ceiling fans throughout. House has Wi-Fi door lock and thermostat to make access easy and comfortable.

Kitchen has a microwave, toaster, coffee pot, oven, pots/pans, fridge with icemaker, plates, utensil, towels, and other items that make a full kitchen. That includes two new ceramic frying pans (don't you hate sticky frying pans in rental places...). There is also a large boil pot/steamer for clams, crabs, and oysters. Living room and master bedroom have usb, usb-c plugs for your electronics, as do all the bedroom lamps.

Old Cauldron with a grill in the yard can use charcoal or wood to cook a steak or enjoy a small campfire. If you explore enough you may even find an old inoperable cannon, pointing at England, hiding from a time gone past. These round out a sample of the amenities made available to you as our guests.

There are lots to do outside the property. Kilmarnock, Reedville, and Heathsville are just down the road. Favorites like "the Crazy Crab" and "Horn Harbor" provide lovely seafood with great on the water views. "Little River Seafood," just as you get in burgess, has their renowned fresh crab cakes ready to take home along with assorted fresh fish and oysters. Also, flash frozen seafood like scallops and crawfish pie.

It's a lovely rural area, but there are plenty of shops, dining, and even the Sunnybank ferry are a few minutes away. If you wish for more details just ask. We also have a hand-built document printed in the house that has >30 restaurants around us, emergency contacts, our favorite activities, boating/fishing info, and points of interest (It's 20 pages long...). In that doc, we also lay out the several activities available to you on our property. Just across the river from us is "Smith Point Marina," which provides ramps and marine amenities, as well as charter rentals if interested. We are also close to the ferries that go to Tangier Island out in the middle of the Chesapeake.

Note: All photos in our listing are not altered and are pictures of our property, our waterfronts, or us paddling on the rivers that we live on. The photos that are not our property are within 1/10 mile of property and marked as such. It really is this beautiful. We hope this gives you a clear understanding of what your stay will be like.

Perfectly serene

Really special waterfront spot, immersed in nature and hidden away from neighbors and surrounding lake houses. Would be idyllic in the summer, but couldn’t have asked for a better stay during the winter, with flocks of geese and and owl in the mornings. Sit was more than accommodating and generous, and we were lucky to have come across his place.

Relaxing beauty on river & bay

My family loved our weeklong vacation at this beautiful property. We enjoyed the private dock, rowboating, paddleboating, and paddle-boarding on the water. Had many late-night firepit conversations we will recall fondly for years. The host is very accommodating and easy to communicate with if needed. Would stay here again.

River stay at Periwinkle

This was our second year staying at the Periwinkle on the Little Wicomico River. The accommodations are perfect for the group we have. We especially enjoyed the large deck out back looking at the water as we enjoyed visiting with our family and friends. We did some fishing off the dock and also took a kayak and a couple paddle boards out on the water. Over all it was very relaxing and a nice little vacation spot!

Hidden gem

From the booking process, to the text exchanges with Sit, to the arrival, every part of the process was seamless and inviting. The house is adorable, very private, and ideally suited for 6 guests. We found the house very comfortable to be in when the temperature soared outside. The kitchen had all the items we needed to cook with and the kids had a blast making milk shakes every night and watching one of the many movies. The property and dock were beautiful. We went fishing everyday. Sit left a few poles and great suggestions for how and where to catch fish. The kayaks and paddle boards were so much fun to paddle around on. The kids delighted in paddling around and splashing one another… and the dogs LOVED the water. I can’t recommend this place enough to anyone who needs an escape and some good family fun.

Beautiful Location - Perfect Getaway

Wanted to try VA Eastern Shore, Northern Neck - me, my wife, and 2 small pups - this was the perfect place to enjoy our anniversary and birthdays week! House is tastefully renovated, big kitchen, deck and property are amazing! We saw rabbits, deer, a beaver and lots of birds as advertised. Owner is informative, responsive and helpful! Kudos to him and this property - like the title says, perfect getaway! He even took the time to rebait the crab pots and we enjoyed some nice blue crab for dinner! Thanks for everything! most relaxing vacation ever

My husband and I decided to visit this location for the first time. We were pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed the house and surrounding property. Everything about this vacation was so relaxing. The scenery was so beautiful, and the owner was very responsive to all of our questions. We had the opportunity to use their fire pit, kayaks and paddle boat and had so much fun. Our dog had a wonderful time too. Thank you for the opportunity to visit your beautiful home. ❤️

Hard Place to Leave..

My family and I had a wonderful time staying at Periwinkle. This is such a unique place that provides beautiful scenery as well as a comfortable and relaxing environment, both inside the cottage and the surrounding property. My two boys (2 and 6 years old) had a blast exploring the wooded area, taking trips on the water in the kayak and paddle boat, playing on the swing and spotting wildlife in the area. Overall, this was the fun and relaxing vacation we were hoping for. In addition, Sit is a great guy. Very informative about the location the surrounding area and is a respectful, responsive host. This is a unique experience compared to many others. Do yourself a favor and book a stay.

A Weekend in Paradise!

This was an incredible stay! Pictures really cannot do it justice. The house is so comfortable, clean, and the perfect size. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful and the water is perfect. We spent the mornings on the dock with coffee and books, afternoons kayaking around the river, and evenings on the deck. We were able to kayak to a beach as well where the water was calm and no one was in sight. Truly a magical experience! We all immediately want to return! I can’t recommend this place enough.

Heavenly!

This is a truly idyllic spot where you can swim, kayak and paddleboard, or just sit on the dock or lie in the swing or in the shade of the beautiful trees and watch the birds and listen to the world around you in bliss. Wonderful views all round. Great, helpful host. Comfy cottage. What more could you want?

Loved our stay!!

We cannot say enough great things about our stay here. Sit was so so great at not only communicating with us, but going above and beyond to supply everything we could need. We were even able to check in early which made for an even better start to our trip. We enjoyed paddle boarding and kayaking each day and enjoyed some locally recommended places too! We cannot wait to come back! The area and everyone around were so so nice. It’s quiet, relaxing and a little slice of heaven on the bay. Thank you again!!

Wonderful peaceful comfortable and fun!

This home sits riverside and just down from the Bay making the views incredible! It’s so comfortable and clean inside and out with lots to do on the property. A short drive will take you into several towns for food, restaurants, wineries and museums. The seafood is plentiful and delicious! The host is fantastic: excellent communications and source of information. He is always accessible but also so organized that you really don’t need much else! The location is a bit remote - not the typical “beach” experience but absolutely so relaxing and peaceful. The host generously shared personal water craft like kayaks and paddle boards which makes time on the water fun. We look forward to returning to experience the fall, perhaps, knowing it will again be a great vacation.

Spectacular Private Getaway

I stayed here with my wife, our 3 year old son, and my parents for a 3 days weekend. We had a wonderful time enjoying the property. The little strip of beach is spectacularly and not well represented in the photos. It was perfect for our 3 year old to play on with sand toys, and he was able to see snails and crabs and some harmless snakes up close. The kayaks were excellent and easy to get from the shed to the beach. We mostly stayed close to home with them and just tooled around the area enjoying being in a boat, but even then we still got to see Osprey and Great Blue Herons and a ton of other wildlife. At night there was a Great Horned Owl right outside the house which was pretty cool. The fire pit was also great. All in all, top notch place. Will probably be back.

About the host

Hosted by Sit

Host profile image
We are the Sitisons from Richmond, Virginia. We bought and have been lovingly developing this special property so that our children and grandchildren always have a place for adventure and renewal. We are happy to share our experience with you. Please enjoy your stay. I hope your visit is impactful and refreshing!

Why they chose this property

The Northern Neck and Little Wicomico River provide some of the state's most premiere vacation space. You can't have a bad visit. I humbly submit what is special about our place is the size of the property, the quiet space it provides, and the fact that it has over 300ft of water front (1200 ft of waterfront views). It is truly a sanctuary of wildlife, plants, and fun.

Northumberland county dates back to the 17th century. John Smith named "Smith Point" for himself (which is about 1/2 mile on water from property). We are in the eastern most point of NNK, which means sandy beaches, salty water, and sea breezes.

Our place? Space to spread out, with two water fronts, 9 hole disc golf course on property, an azalea garden with over 200 azaleas, mature native flowering plants that feels like an arboretum as much as a vacation property. Easy water access at the beach. Over 200 degree spanning water views. Walking the perimeter will give your 1/3 mile walk, or walk up to bend road and add almost1 mile up and 1 mile back.

What makes this property unique

Our cottage Periwinkle is super-clean. We've just finished a full renovation and new pier/dock 2024. It gives you a cozy, romantic cabin feel with ridiculous views that are hard to leave. It may be quaint, but is also well appointed with the up to date comfort needs from a full renovation. New floors, ceilings, insulation, plumbing, electric, HVAC, fixtures, deck, furniture (ok there are also antiques), and gigabit internet. Kitchen should have everything the average cook should need. A favorite is premium leather couch and chair w/ power recliners and USB ports (yeah, we spent too much on them...). It feels like you "got away", but there is plenty of comfort for you when you arrive.

We do allow pets with stipulations. No pets on furniture or beds. If you plan to rent with a pet please let us know ahead of time so we can discuss.
