Not what I expected

Ok maybe I misunderstood the post but pee in one toilet and poop in an outhouse was not my idea of the 21st century. Talk of the Adirondacks from where I was at all I saw were woods!! I managed but will never rent this property again!! The cost was very nice no problem there!!

Great place to stay with dogs!

We ran across this listing when we were looking for a place inn the Adirondacks where we could stay along with our two dogs, and thought we'd give it a try, since it was one of the few we found that would take 2 dogs. It turned out to be a great place to stay, both for us and our dogs, since we didn't have to worry about them running into other people there. They have some trails right on the property that we could take the dogs on, and while the accommodations weren't large (it's a camping trailer with an enclosure built around it), but there was plenty of room for the two of us and our dogs. The host, Stefanie, was very gracious and accommodating, also, and it was handy for several hikes we took in that area. We'd definitely recommend it, even if you don't have dogs, and especially if you do.

Hello and welcome!

I am Stefanie Cox. My husband Richard and I love the Adirondacks. We enjoy hiking, canoeing, visiting waterfalls with our three dogs. We used to do a lot of canoe camping in our younger days. We call this "glamping." Refrigeration, a/c, high-speed WiFi, and an oven are wonderful luxuries... Good news! We will be fully solar powered soon… hopefully in September!

We tried to imagine, if we were returning from a week-long canoe trip, what would we want? A hot shower, a washer and dryer, internet connection, and a good hot meal. We are “living the dream in the Adirondacks,” and we are happy to share with others.

We have enjoyed visiting the Adirondacks for many years. My father was born in Keene and grew up in Keene Valley. We still have family in the area.

We love the Westport-Wadhams-Whallonsburg-Essex area. The people are warm and friendly, creative and outdoorsy. We find people who enjoy hiking, crafting, gardening, making music... The Grange Hall and Whitcomb's Arts Studio in Whallonsburg are great places to meet people interested in art, jam sessions, and films. Classical music lovers will enjoy incredible performances at the Meadowmount School of Music during their summer program, as well as around the community (roughly June-August). Live theater performances are available right in the Westport train station building! You can find yoga in the park, Adirondack history exploration in Elizabethtown is great for a rainy day at the Adirondack History Museum.

Check the What's Happening in Westport FB page for local current events. When you make a reservation, I will send you a virtual “packet” of information about places to go, local events, restaurants, etc. We look forward to meeting you.

Why they chose this property

We found this property after a six-year search for the right place. Westport is a sweet, quiet town right on Lake Champlain. We wanted a good chunk of land, so we are a bit out of town. We retired in June 2024, so we now live in the old farm house next door and continue to manage the camper for guests. Before we retired, we rented out the house long-term, and we used the camper for extended visits to work on projects (up to a month at a time).

Now we live here year around, and we are living the dream in the Adirondacks. We are happy to share with others.

What makes this property unique

We consider ourselves tree huggers. We had no access to a septic tank, so we opted for a composting toilet and outhouse. We built the shelter around the camper using many reclaimed wood items (interior paneling, windows, exterior siding). Our water source is the original spring that once served the farm house. You can walk up the hill to find the spring house, if you wish. We are always improving the property, so we welcome comments and feedback. Enjoy your stay!
