We arrived and were shocked and appalled at the condition of this property. It is COMPLETELY misrepresented on VRBO. The photos are COMPLETELY doctored. The deck is off the back of the house and there is construction equipment, garbage, and debris everywhere making it unable to access from the rear of the property where the parking area is accessed via a fort/mud alley. Inside, there is not lights or tv in the living room, there are holes in the wall and the place is filthy!! We immediately contacted the host who NEVER replied and we got out of the sketchy neighborhood and went to a hotel before dark!!!
This was the perfect answer to a separate host, who weeks before our trip had to cancel our reservation. We were in town for a convention and the distance from our stay to the city center was mind blowing. We were all able to sleep comfortably and the neighborhood was nice and quiet.
This place needs a good cleaning and a handyman. Carpet was visibly dirty; tacking nails on stair carpeting were sticking up in 2 places (discovered when I stepped on them in bare feet); wooden slats on back porch were curled up & protruding; bath towel had 2 quarter-sized holes; coffee supply was NOT as pictured ( a few capsules of flavored coffee, NO regular coffee but there were 30 capsules of Swiss Miss hot chocolate in the drawer that had not been cleaned in a long while; barndoor for downstairs bathroom had a 2 inch gap leaving no privacy; door fell off the track multiple times; smoke detector was sitting on top of frig; we wiped down just about every surface and it was dirty; No sheets for the sofa bed which shows a trundle bed in the photos; house smelled of cannabis; heavy traffic and train noise and neighbors were louder than expected; communication with owner was not timely - I had to chase down check-in info;owner did not respond to emails after we arrived. On the plus side: proximity to ICC was great and mattresses were very comfortable
The listing was as pictured. The check-in process was easy and we were glad we found the place close to where we were going to be for our events.
The place did have some quirks regarding the king-size bed frame, stairs, and adjacent neighbor. The king-size bed was comfortable, but the bed frame was very squeaky. Every time we moved in the bed, it would creak/squeak loudly, and I mean every time. The stairs going up to the second level were shallower (front to back) than what we are used to and the nails on the stairs were uncomfortable to walk on. I would recommend house slippers.
While it was recommended that we be respectful and quiet, we could hear the neighbor on the connecting side of the house throughout our time. The neighbor also has a dog that destroyed the back house mat and would poop in the yard. A few messes weren't cleaned up during our stay, so we had to stick to the sidewalk.
The upstairs bathroom was nice, but it was also creaky when walking around in it.
During our stay, the washing machine wasn't working. It took about a day to get an update from the property owner and they comped us some money for the laundromat we had to use. If your stay is long, please check the status of the machines.
It was a decent stay, like I said, with a few quirks.
