About this property

Artisan Adobe - Near Canyon Rd and the Plaza

Lush Landscaping and fencing creates a hidden gem from street view, this 1BR authentic adobe home is filled with historical charm and one-of-a-kind antiques. The decorative front door (with carvings depicting lightning, thunderbirds, and Native American symbols) came from the Taos home of famed arts patron, Mabel Dodge Lujan. Inside, the wood balusters were taken from the 20th century Loretto Academy in El Paso. With its stepped, chapel-like front gable, this home radiates Old-World charm and artisan craft, while providing modern conveniences such as ambient floor heating, a Viking gas range, and a private garden sauna.Rustic brick floors highlight the open-concept ground floor. The living area, situated behind a traditional "key" style adobe opening, is detailed with ample seating and local crafts. Antique Turkish and Southwestern rugs compliment the decor, including the Vigas ceilings salvaged from the ancient Agua Fria village. Unwind on the sofa bed and watch shows on the 46" TV.Filled with ample natural light the kitchen is equipped with a stainless steel fridge, dishwasher, and Viking gas range. New and modern appliances mix tastefully with local ceramics and vintage Copperware to create an elevated culinary space. In the dining room, vibrant textiles and pillows line an authentic banco with seating for 10 and a view of the kiva fireplace. Surrounded by antique folk art, photographs, and highlighting two French antique glass windows (repurposed from past art commissions), it is a magical place to host dinner alongside the aura of a wood-burning fireplace. The upstairs bedroom sleeps two guests on a queen bed brightened with rich, hand-made textiles and hotel-quality linens. Surrounded by windows, views of downtown Santa Fe can be seen from the comforts of bed. A small office alcove offers a quiet place to organize and plan the details of your stay.Downstairs, the spacious bath has a beautiful stone sink, tiled walk-in shower.Natural landscaping surrounds this gem including junipers, pines and aspen, a front patio canopied by a pergola offers shade in the summer, while the back garden is a lovely spot for picnics. Follow the lighted stone path up the gently sloped hill to arrive at the sauna.

Adobe abode

The property was just as presented in the photos. If this place had cheeks, you would want to pinch them it was so cute. A quiet neighborhood, wonderful private backyard space and to top things off a hot sauna to relax in after hiking at altitude. Where did you get that carved front door?A special place we would stay in again.

Santa Fe Getaway

It’s hard to say whether we enjoyed the lovely outdoor patios of this home or the indoor space which is filled with beautiful and interesting art in every room. I wanted to feel like we were in Santa Fe rather than a generic hotel and this home was perfect.

Snow surprise!

Unique older home on the small side but fine for the two of us. An unexpected early and heavy snow event kept us inside more than we planned but the unique and very effective radiant floor heating system kept the home cozy even with heavy snowfall and temps in the 20's. The kiva fireplace was nice too- plenty of firewood provided just outside. Well furnished kitchen, plenty of hot water, a large patio (did not take advantage of it tho). Management called to check on us when the power went off for a few hours and the owner himself came by to shovel the sidewalk and steps! All in all a comfortable, quiet and relaxing place to hunker down and watch the snow fall. Bed was comfortable although the stairs to the bedroom were rather steep and narrow without a handrail which could be an issue for some. The unusual snow event made for a kind of adventure for a couple from Central Texas but we enjoyed being in a warm and comfortable home.

Santa Fe stay

My husband and I picked this property for its outside. We love being outside in beautiful surroundings. We arrived on a Sunday in the rain. Finally, Wednesday we got our wish and sat outside all afternoon. I said it was magical. On a warm evening with the lights on it must really be great. My husband is a sculptor and he just went on and on about the stone work. So many places to sit and so much to see They have like a mini labyrinth with lovely plants to look at. One thing that I don’t remember seeing in the description is that the house is on an unpaved, very narrow road. As I said, we arrived in the rain and it was a muddy mess with huge puddles. Thank goodness it doesn’t rain much! However, people drive very carefully and respectfully so we all managed to share the road. The location was great. Very easy to get everywhere. The house was very clean and welcoming. It is full of lots or interesting art and artifacts. The little sitting area was very comfortable. If only they had left directions for the TV. We were not satisfied with that. We could not open most of what we wanted to see. The bathroom was large and worked well. The kitchen was well equipped and the view out of the windows was so nice. Our only big issue was our age. The stairs made us uncomfortable. Wish the railing went all the way up. The floors were covered with small throw rugs which we tripped over often. If you are sure footed, you should be fine. Wish we had more info on where to put trash.
