About this property
Octopus Cottage: Hot Tub | Kayaks | Fire Pit
This lovingly restored cottage, located on beachfront property, is the vacation home of your dreams! Spend your days on a kayaking adventure or fishing right off the beach. Watch the stunning sunsets steps from your back door, then stargaze from your sumptuous hot tub or make memories around a crackling bonfire. From the spa-like bathroom complete with rain head to the cinematic 50” 4K TV, you can indulge in every amenity when you come home to rest after each incredible day. IG: stay.dreamspace
Situated just 30 steps from the beach path, this original 1940’s Millman cottage was professionally decorated and landscaped by an award-winning horticulturalist. It is the perfect rental for a small family, a group of friends, or a romantic getaway!
With its long history as a vibrant fishing business, continue the home’s tradition by casting a line next to the piers of the old dock and take home your catch to roast up on the outdoor grill.
Relax in the backyard and delight in the provided yard games, or take the fun indoors with a selection of our favorite board games -- fun for the whole family!
Launch your kayaks off the beach, which is accessible either by the property's private beach path or the public path located just 50 feet away. We have stocked a wide assortment of life jacket sizes and paddles for three kayaks -- two individual and one tandem.
Cook to your heart's content in the completely renovated, vintage-inspired kitchen complete with cookware, tools, spices, microwave oven, coffee maker, toaster, refrigerator with ice maker, 4-burner electric range, dishwasher, and deep sink with multi-function faucet.
Curl up on the 84-inch couch watching movies on the home’s brand-new, Samsung "The Frame" 50-inch 4K flatscreen television, ready for bingeing Netflix (included) or any streaming service you bring.
Work remotely (if you have to) with free, fast, WiFi from Verizon Fios available throughout the cottage.
Pamper yourself in the spa-like bathroom complete with a high-end, Italian rain shower system, teak shower bench, European dual-flush toilet, LG Washtower laundry machine, extra-plush towels, and toiletry essentials.
Sleep like royalty on your luxury, queen-size bed, or queen-size, memory foam sleeper sofa appointed with hypoallergenic down-alternative hotel pillows and comforters, and silky smooth microfiber sheets. The bedroom is also equipped with a 32-inch Roku smart TV.
Linens are provided!!!
You will have full access to the cottage, kayaks, game storage and your own *private* newly-fenced yard. The cottage is located on a shared property with a detached storage garage and my house, which will not be accessible (unless I bake too many muffins).
My family lives at a house on the same property, and I would be happy to facilitate an in-person check-in if I am around, or just chat about the gardens, wildlife, and local attractions!
The Villas is the hidden gem of Cape May County: a peaceful, residential atmosphere with calm waters and natural, white sand beaches prized by locals. You are situated just a 15 minute drive to both downtown Cape May and Wildwood -- the choice is yours!
This area is a nature-lover’s paradise: from the horseshoe crabs who have made a yearly pilgrimage to our white sand beaches for millions of years, to the endangered migratory birds who stop here to feed on their monumental journey North. Don’t forget to bring your scope to watch our stunning local bald eagles and osprey hunt just off-shore, or catch a glimpse of a pod of dolphins playing in the surf!
The surrounding area is packed with things to do: spend the day roaming nearby downtown Cape May, America’s first seashore resort (4 beach tags included with your stay), sample one of the many local wineries and craft breweries, take an afternoon to visit the Cape May County Zoo, charter a whale and dolphin watching boat, sign up for a tour of the back bays, hike the high dune trail, climb to the top of the Cape May lighthouse, ride the rides at the Wildwood boardwalk, or watch the flag ceremony at Sunset beach.
For your convenience, Duraflame logs can be purchased at the Lowes 3.5 miles away and firewood can be purchased from many small vendors in the area. Smaller grocery runs or quick food is less than a mile away at a Wawa, and the Rio Grande shopping area is less than 4 miles away.
Please note that while the beaches are ideal for kayaking, walking, fishing, or watching the sun set, this beach is not ideal for swimming because of how shallow the bay is. There is also a 5 foot tide that causes the water to recede and reveal tidal pools. We recommend you download a tide clock app to track the tides for ideal kayaking!
Our property is pet friendly! We ask that you please clean up after your four-legged companions and only bring pets that are house-broken, but please remember that dogs are only truly house-broken in their own houses. We would appreciate your taking them out frequently while they are visiting :-)
The other important stuff:
- Please respect the quiet hours of the neighborhood (10pm - 8am)
- Charcoal for the grill and fire pit wood are not provided.
- Please start the dishwasher before checkout - detergent located under the sink
- Please use the outdoor shower for you and your pets after returning from the beach.
- Please do not cut directly on the butcher block countertop. Cutting boards are provided.
-Sofa bed linens are stored in the bedroom, under the bed.
- If you are visiting with pets or young children, we have a quilted sofa cover under the bed. Please use that so you won't be concerned about damaging the sofa with sandy paws or sticky fingers. We want everyone to have a fun, worry-free visit.
- When you are finished with the umbrella in the outdoor dining area, please lower and tie it. We can have heavy gusts of wind blow in unexpectedly and that umbrella will be blown like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz!
- Same applies to rain around here. If you are leaving for a long period of time, please close windows in case a storm quickly blows in off the bay.
- Don't burn the place down. Flameless candles only.
- Drippy, sticky food belongs at the table - not the sofa.
- Sunblock should be applied outside. Not only will it stain anything, we don't want the floors turned into an ice skating rink for you ~ unless you're Dorothy Hamill, and then it's ok. :-)
The really important stuff:
- Limit 1 pet per stay, unless specifically approved by host.
- $100 fee per dog
- $50 late checkout fee, unless specifically approved by the host
- $250 smoking fee per day of rental. We are a smoke free residence.
- No unregistered guests or pets
- No unapproved groups larger than 4 in the cottage at any time, subject to immediate
removal with no refund
- Guests must sign the kayak release form prior to renting
- Guests must sign the hot tub release form prior to renting
- This is an old cottage with old pipes. Please flush only toilet paper -- no feminine products, wipes of any kind, paper towels, tissues, watermelons or anything else that I can't think of at the moment.
