Disappointing

There were mouse droppings in the cabinet with the pots and pans. Half the lightbulbs were burnt out. The latch on the bathroom door was broken, no way to secure the door. Cobwebs on the ceiling fans, corners and staircase. The overall feel of the interior was dingy. The property owners were nice people, even left us biscuits on the porch the morning after our arrival.

Peace and quiet

Cabin was rustic, but everything was clean, comfortable and inviting. Interesting access road, but easy to find with excellent directions. Morning coffee on the porch, was delightful. Quick and easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway Our hosts were welcoming and provided home made biscuits in the mornings, a real treat.

Great Place to Stay for the Shut In

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hilltop Log Cabin, a place to feel secluded, but conveniently located near civilization. The cabin is not far from the NC Arboretum, the starting point for the Shut In trail race. The Glenns made us feel so welcome and we hope to return in the future.

Peaceful mountain get away

Great place to relax and get away. Surrounded by woods and a babbeling brook. Sleep with the windows cracked open to listen to the water. Spent morning on the porch with coffee. Nicest owners.

Very impressive

We loved our stay at Hilltop Log Cabin. The cabin was so cozy. My daughter and I stayed on the porch most all day Saturday. The guys were out there until the Ga game came on. We did see deer and other small animals...She and I walked down to the creek. It was just so beautiful!! Our reason for going was sad. Our nephew passed away the end of May. They were having his Celebreation of Life in Ashville. This place brought peace to our hearts!! The Glenn's were so very sweet and helpful!! And the breads were so yummy!!! We hope to visit again!!

Peaceful mountainside retreat

We loved our stay at the Glenns' Hilltop Log Cabin! The cabin was spotless, with many thoughtful touches including fresh-baked rolls and butter upon arrival, a jukebox, rustic decorations, a wonderful screened in porch, and tons of privacy. I loved waking early and listening to the birds singing. When it got too hot and humid there was a mini-split to help us cool down. The kitchen is small but had all the necessities, and when we needed something we just had to ask, and Mr. Glenn would pop by in his cart with it. Service and communication were excellent! It was our second stay at a Hilltop Acres property, and we hope to return again!

Small Family Reunion

We rented the cabin from Friday-Sunday as it was in an excellent location to pick up one child from sleep away camp on Friday and drop the other off on Sunday. We met my parents in Asheville and it was the perfect size and layout for our party. The cabin was clean and exactly as advertised; location gave us a lot of privacy and quiet, while only being a short drive to Asheville. Upon leaving, we all agreed that we would love to stay here again next year.

What a great cabin for girls weekend. They were 7 of us. The cabin was secluded and we loved that. It was very clean, furnishings was great very rustic, beds were super comfy , kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed. We are Definitely going to stay here again! You will need a truck or suv to get up to the cabin which is a beautiful ride in! This is a cabin you want be disappointed in for sure!

Weekend Family Getaway

First and foremost, Denise and her father were very gracious and responsive hosts. We had a problem with the cabin heating when we arrived and they went the extra mile to address it. My parents stayed down the road in Black Bear Lodge (they loved it!) and the proximity and nature surrounding the cabins allowed us to have a great experience while social distancing. The cabin is rustic (their other cabins, including Black Bear Lodge, are a bit more modern) and without central heating, some rooms are colder than others at night. The space was perfect for a family of five.

Where Family Gathers

What a wonderful hilltop cabin in the woods! It was a beautiful, peaceful place to be with our small family and relax after a busy day of sightseeing. We spent 4 days and nights with activities planned for each day. When we returned late each afternoon exhausted, we had fun exploring the woods and stream, feeding the rainbow trout, enjoying the fire pit, relaxing in the cabin, listening to the jukebox, and cooking our dinners each night which recharged our batteries for the next day. The cabin was convenient for all of the activities we had planned. We spent one day at the Biltmore, another day whitewater rafting on the French Broad River, and another day hiking to see waterfalls. The owners were gracious and checked on us several times. They had fresh, delicious, homemade, rolls made by the owner, waiting for us when we arrived. What a welcome! For our last day, we followed the owners' recommendations to visit one of their favorite waterfalls at DuPont State National Forest. We hiked over 4 miles and saw several beautiful waterfalls along the way. We drove back to the cabin by way of the Blue Ridge Parkway and stopped to see some of the amazing Blue Ridge Mountains. What a wonderful get a away! Thank you Glenn Acres!

Cabin on the hilltop

I stayed for the weekend with my daughter and niece and we enjoyed our time here. I am very directionally challenged so I had GPS going and I was referencing the directions given to us by the owner which included things/signs to look for. When we arrived at a dead end I assumed we weren’t in the right place. We turned around and drove around for some time then reentered the address in the GPS. We ended up right back at the same dead end. GPS appears to be sending you down the wrong road/driveway when in fact it’s the road/driveway the cabin is on. The road/driveway is between 10:00 and 11:00 when approaching the dead end. There are mailboxes on the right hand side of the road/driveway. Just a few car links down the driveway is the creek that you have to cross so when you arrive at this dead end you are in the right spot. Some reviews referenced needing a 4 wheel drive for the road up to the cabin but I was driving a mid size rear wheel drive car and had no trouble. I assume a 4 wheel drive would only be necessary if there was snow on the ground.

Wonderful secluded cabin!

My family and I (2 adults / 2 children, 10 and 13) stayed at this cabin for 3 nights. The one-lane gravel road to get to the cabin could be a little dicey in small cars, especially if it has rained a lot (which it had been for our trip), but still doable (we had an SUV). The cabin is exactly as described - nothing but the sounds of nature around you. The nearest cabin is perhaps 300 feet away, but the thick forest dampens any outside noise. The owners were absolutely adorable - the freshly made biscuits they brought up to us the first night were gone by the next morning! The one issue that we had with the window unit in the bedroom (condensation causing some water to puddle on the floor, mainly) was addressed immediately the next day (and we were more concerned that their property could be damaged - it didn't hinder our stay in any way!). The beds were very comfortable and our kids loved the record-player jukebox in the back room (they had never heard some of the songs we played for them Friday morning). The cabin was clean and had everything we needed for our stay, exactly as described. Asheville/Biltmore is no more than a 35 - 40 minute drive away, so it really is the perfect combination of seclusion and access to 'civilization'. If you are looking for that kind of stay, this is the perfect place - thank you so much for allowing our family to stay there and for talking to us as we left on Sunday morning!

About the host

Hosted by Denise Glenn

Host profile image
Larry & Gay Glenn (my wonderful In laws) had always wanted a little place by a mountain stream. They just happen to come across 13 acres on the mountain just at the base of Mount Pisgah with two small cottages. They had to get it! This was in 2000. They enjoyed the sounds of the stream, the birds, and just the beauty all around Them. That is when they decided to build a Log Cabin on above their cottage for others to enjoy as well. So, contact Me, Denise Glenn and I hope you'll come stay and see for yourself what Dad & Mother love so much about this place!!

Why they chose this property

Quiet, Secluded, beautiful!

What makes this property unique

Listening to the mountain stream, seeing the mountain laurel in full bloom as well as other wildflowers, hearing the woodpeckers and other birds that fill the trees surrounding us. Walking around the property..... visiting Larry's small trout pond (sorry not for fishing). Just relaxing in the rocking chair on the front porch and mostly enjoy family and friendship!
