About this property

Downeast Maine Retreat: 4br w/ AC 25 min to Acadia

Summary:
Downeast Retreat is a historic four bedroom colonial with many recent upgrades and lots of personality! Our home is uniquely situated on 11 acres just outside downtown Ellsworth. Enjoy private access to lots of greenspace while being close to all the amenities that our small city has to offer. With many local restaurants and shops within a mile of the home, you will fall in love with our convenient location. Our home is only a 25-minute drive to Acadia National Park & Bar Harbor!

The Space:
As you step inside, you'll notice the traditional charm of our 1800s home updated with modern comforts and some of our own personal flair. We are certainly not interior designers, so we put together our home by choosing items that put a smile on our face. We hope it makes you smile as well!

The living area is bathed in natural light and has plenty of areas to gather as a group or for small conversations. The built-in bookshelf and reading nook serves as the perfect place to drink a morning cup of coffee looking out over the lawn or to dive into that new novel at the end of the day. The Smart TV with AirPlay will make sure all of your streaming services can be accessed.

The fully equipped kitchen features modern appliances, ample counter space, and all the necessary amenities (including a lobster pot!) to prepare delicious meals. We have also included accessories for the outdoor grill and some cookbooks for inspiration. Our kitchen has bar stools for quick meals and our formal dining room seats 6 with two additional chairs available to accommodate 8. Whether it's a casual breakfast or a festive dinner, this space is perfect for enjoying shared meals and creating lasting memories.

On the ground floor we have an updated bathroom with a custom shower.

Upstairs we have four warm bedrooms, each with their own style. With plush beds, soft linens, and ample storage space, each bedroom was designed to be comfortable for guests staying one night or one month. Two of our bedrooms also have desks. With our fast (500mbps) Wi-Fi, it's easy to get some work done (even though we doubt you will want to!). Summer evenings are cool in Maine so we do not have central air but window AC units and fans are installed in each bedroom to satisfy even the warmest sleeper. Our rooms were designed so you can wake up rejuvenated, ready to embark on new adventures in the morning.

Upstairs the bathroom has a double vanity and a shower. *Please note our bathtub is not working at the moment.* All linens are provided as well as travel sized toiletries and a hairdryer.

Our outdoor area has been upgraded to allow guests full enjoyment of Maine’s outdoors. A patio with a large fire pit and ample seating has been added to enjoy starry nights and smores. Additionally, the large open field is now accessible and outdoor games have been provided. Finally, we have marked our family path down to the Union River and added picnic benches at the bottom of the trail & the lookout.

Please note we are located on a busier road. While it's quiet at night, it may get busy at peak times during the day when you are hopefully out exploring. Our outdoor area is largely protected from this noise.

Conveniently located in Ellsworth, our home offers easy access to the town's charming downtown area, where you can explore local shops, indulge in delicious cuisine, and discover the town's vibrant arts scene. Additionally, you'll find yourself within reach of the breathtaking Acadia National Park, where you can immerse yourself in nature's wonders through hiking, biking, and awe-inspiring coastal views. We have provided a guide book that we put together with recommendations of all our favorite places and activities.

Guest Access:
NEW for the 2024 Season: Our outdoor area has received some major upgrades! A patio with a large fire pit and ample seating has been added to enjoy starry nights and smores. Additionally, the large open field is now accessible and outdoor games have been provided. Finally, we have marked our family path down to the Union River and added picnic benches at the bottom of the trail and at the lookout!

Guests have access to the entire home and spacious back yard grass and fire pit. In addition to the firepit area, guests may also use the secret trail to walk to a cove and overlook of the Union River. The trail is marked, and a trail map is available. This trail has been preserved by the owner of the property and guests should use caution when using the trail or approaching the river.

Good spot for exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor

Stayed here for a family trip which included a teenager and my elderly parents. Clean house, comfortable beds, plenty of space, and two great showers. Stairs are steep as an older home but very manageable for my parents. Town is quiet but fun to explore with cute shops and eateries. Easy drive to Acadia on MDI, Bar Harbor, and Schoodic Peninsula (highly recommend Schoodic).
