About this property
The Starling at Pond Eddy, Riverhouse: Apartment
Although The Starling at Pond Eddy retains much of its late 1800’s historic charm, the buildings have been upgraded with modern amenities like central air conditioning and heat. The Apartment has a wood burning stove for the cooler weather months and a large claw foot bathtub that overlooks the Delaware River.
Fire pits are located behind both buildings for roasting marshmallows (and ghost stories). A shared propane grill is also available for guests to use during the spring/summer months.
Each bedroom is outfitted with memory foam mattresses and hypoallergenic bed and pillow covers. The pillows are down-alternative and hypoallergenic with 100% cotton covers. The soft garment washed sheets and duvet covers are also 100% cotton. Our towels are generously sized soft combed 100% Egyptian cotton and the bathroom has a hair dryer and portable clothing steamer. The kitchen is stocked with coffee, herbal tea and an electric coffee pot + French press.
There is also a smart TV in the bedroom with a dedicated Netflix account.
* A Queen-sized inflatable bed is available for use in the livingroom of this unit. Please note that our only pet-friendly rental is The Cottage.
- HISTORY
The Starling at Pond Eddy’s Riverhouse was built by A. Maney in 1893 and is reported to be one of the last known buildings to have been constructed along the Historic Delaware and Hudson Canal. The main floor of the Riverhouse originally housed a general store and has much of the original wood floors and ceilings intact. The upstairs – thought to be former boardinghouse – contains elaborate woodwork and colored glass windows.
The property’s Cottage dates back even farther to c. 1860, with the porch being added around 1880. This is just one of many mid 19th-century canal-side houses that were built in Pond Eddy.
With its wooded hillside at its back and views of the Delaware River off the front, The Starling at Pond Eddy retains much of its original charm – a rarity in the river valley – due to the fact that it sat unaltered for almost 40 years until an antique dealer purchased it and started detailed renovations.
The Starling at Pond Eddy has three main rental options: The Apartment + Boardinghouse Rooms in the historic Riverhouse or The Cottage, a free-standing building behind the main canal house. The Cottageis also our only pet-friendly rental.Arrangements can also be made to rent out the entire property for private events or retreats.
