This beautiful and private 1800's house has been in the family for over 70 years. It was moved down from New Hampshire and rebuilt just prior to the 1938 hurricane which filled it with 5' water. It is surrounded and next to over 17 acres of private and conservation dunes assuring an exceptionally intimate setting.
The Surprise House was so named as it came unexpectedly filled with antiques and of course, being such an old house, it is filled with nooks and crannies.
The main house has a Living Room, formal Dining Room, Kitchen, Pantry/hall and 3 bedrooms. The bedrooms are as follows:
1: Queen and full bath (tub/shower) on first floor.
2: Twin beds on second floor.
3: Another set of twins on second floor with full bath (shower) between rooms.
There is an additional half bath on the first floor.
Across the lawn there is an outbuilding called The 'Fish House' which sleeps from 4 plus. This is typically where children or one family will sleep. The Fish House has:
1: Two sets of bunk beds with a full on the bottom and twin on top. Half bath outside in the barn and two outdoor showers, one enclosed, one open.
The Main House opens through French doors to a beautiful stone patio with flower and herb gardens and giant fish bowl (we don't keep fish in it anymore as the birds kept eating them). The patio boasts a grill and teak furniture to seat 12. This is where family and friends relax, cook, entertain and play games. A stone wall runs along the gardens and lawn for additional sitting. It is as wide as a yoga mat for those so inclined. The lawn is about 40 by 60 feet perfect for croquet, badminton, ball games or weddings! Wonderful for family gatherings and intimate parties up to 25 people. Larger events such as Weddings up to 125 guests may be arranged with contracted provisions and an additional fee of $10,000.
In addition to the Main House and Fish House, there is the 'Barn' which houses adult bikes, kayaks and a sunfish. These are for your use as long as they are fresh water cleaned and returned. Assorted games, beach toys, kckboards and inflatables are also for your use.
The beach beckons. Beach combing, surf riding, creature catching, sand castle making, kayaking, sailing, and long walks down to the 'Point' where you can ride in and out with the tides at the mouth of the Great Sippewissett Marsh. Rest in the hammock at the top of the dunes and listen to the wind whistle. Western sunsets and evening bonfires.
When not beaching it, take a walk, run, bike or skate along the Shining Sea Bike Path which is just down the road. It runs all the way to Falmouth (4 miles) or Woods Hole (8 miles). You can also walk to the local market (3/4 mile), cafe, organic ice cream shop or public library along the picturesque West Falmouth Harbor. This is a very special place indeed.
