The Unique Charm of the Stone Turret Home
The Stone Turret Home is truly one of Vicksburg’s most distinctive properties. Although its exterior appears to be made of stone, it is actually constructed from molded concrete blocks designed to mimic natural stone. This architectural style is rare but can be found in a handful of other homes throughout the city.
What makes this home special are the charming details that have stood the test of time. We love its round turret, intricate molding, parquet floors, and grand staircase. Throughout the years, the home has undergone multiple renovations and, at one point, was converted into apartments. You may even notice hints of its former layout during your stay.
Built in 1890, the Stone Turret predates modern indoor plumbing and kitchens, which were later integrated in keeping with the era. Some original plumbing and structural elements remain, giving the home its historic character. We appreciate your understanding of these vintage features.
The home originally had both a central and a back staircase, though the latter was removed before we purchased the property. The grand central staircase still plays a unique role in the home’s airflow. During the winter, heat naturally rises, making the upstairs consistently warm, while the downstairs can be cooler. To ensure your comfort, we provide gas fireplaces, and we’re happy to assist with them.
We hope you enjoy the history, character, and warmth of the Stone Turret Home as much as we do!
