About this property

Charming Cottage in the Country

Come and enjoy a country getaway at the Broody Rooster Guesthouse and Gallery. The guesthouse is a charming cottage in the popular Cedar/Yellowpoint area just 15 minutes south of Nanaimo. Located on a small farm, the guesthouse is a unique, stylish cottage with all the amenities you need to getaway from it all, yet remain within reach of urban amenities.

As you drive down our long driveway, you will likely be greeted at the fence by the horses. Outside, the cottage has a large front porch with seating where you can enjoy your morning coffee and view the sun coming up over the pasture. Inside, the cottage boasts restored fir flooring and stained/leaded glass windows throughout which let in lots of sunshine. The open concept layout and 14 foot high ceilings provide plenty of space. Gather some fresh vegetables from our garden and use the large kitchen to make your own meals. Watch the ducks swim on the back pond as you do the dishes, or feed the chickens your leftovers out the back gate. There is always lots of activity going on at the farm and you are welcome to watch and enjoy.

The cottage is tastefully decorated and fully equipped with everything you will need on your vacation. There is a queen size bed plus two additional futon type beds (a queen and a twin) to sleep a total of 4 or maybe 5 people (best for families with younger children), All bedding and linens are provided. You can catch up on laundry by using the washer and drier.

While at the cottage, you are in a perfect location to enjoy numerous day trips north and south to popular attractions in Chemainus, Ladysmith, Victoria, Duncan, Nanaimo, Parksville and Qualicum. Or, just stay at the farm and read a book, relax, take a hike at a local park or cook up a meal with ingredients from the garden.

Yellowpoint/ Cedar is a rural area south of Nanaimo where long winding fences, pastures, century farms and markets are abundant. Saturdays there is a local farmers market is about 6 minutes away.

The area is known for its concentration of artisans - check out the Cedar/Yellowpoint Artisans for more information and take a week to visit them all!

Stay and play package available for guests. If you’re into golf let us know. We will provide 2 9 hole rounds at nearby Cottonwood golf course.

Many come to the area with their bikes to cycle the country roads and visit artisans or stop at local pubs.

Enjoy the parks and trails nearby or head out to the beach 5 minutes away.

Quiet, quaint, comfortable

Great little cottage in the country, quick access to Duke Point ferry terminal. We were a group of 3 traveling on motorcycles and there was a safe convenient spot to park our bikes. Lots of clean bedding and towels and other basic amenities I'd definitely stay again.

on the farm

My grandson and I had a wonderful time staying at the cabin. It was everything we could want. John (host) was helpful and friendly and my grandson loved making friends with the horses. What a great little holiday for a boy who lives in an urban environment, and his happy grandma.

Mr

So relaxing and a little like stepping back in time when life was much less complicated. We loved the front porch with the vines and flowers, and hearing the roosters crow. This was our second visit and hope to return again. Nanaimo is also a wonderful town close by that has everything we needed.

cozy farm cottage

Two of us stayed 3 nights in this delightful cottage located on a chicken farm. Our hosts John and Nicole were on the premises and generously left us fresh eggs and fresh coffee. The cottage was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed to be comfortable and happy.

Peaceful & quiet getaway in the country

This is a gem of a place if you want to escape from it all . Central enough to Island attractions , Hwy, and yet you can bike , hike and swim nearby without having to travel too far. Owners were generous with their garden produce and the fresh eggs were a nice touch. If you like the sights and sounds of country -living , this is the place !

Pleasant stay

John and Nicole were excellent hosts for our stay at their lovely rustic cottage. Lots of new experiences for our young children - watching the many free range chickens outside, saying hi to the horses, and of course frequent trips into the nearby garden to stock up on vegetables for our meals. The garden fresh eggs they provided were delicious. And the well stocked kitchen made home meals a breeze.

Charmingly rustic

We had an enjoyable 3 nights at the cottage, very comfortable bed, good amenities, the farm fresh eggs were a nice touch as well as access to the garden. The Crow and Gate pub being 10 minutes away was a nice bonus as our dinner there was excellent. Wifi at cottage could use a little boost though

We all enjoyed our time and felt very comfortable in the cottage. I would recommend this hidden gem to any family who want to disconnect and get back to basics , conversations, reading . Best of all worlds

This beautiful rental exceeded all our expectations from the word go. The location on the farm outside Nanaimo provides peace and quiet to relax yet is short drives from attractions and activities in the surrounding area. John and Nicole are wonderful hosts and the fresh vegetables and fruits from the farm were an added bonus. The interior of the cottage is very tastefully done and more than comfortable for two people. The kitchen is very well equipped. We both enjoyed the outdoor sitting and eating areas immensely. Communication with the owners was very smooth regarding check-in and they provided an abundance of information on things to and amenities in the area. I highly recommend this as rental. We definitely plan to return in the future.

Incredible all around

John and Nicole were great, we came up for a swim competition so didn’t get to enjoy the property as much as we would have liked but enjoyed their horses, the beautiful views, the cute cottage that is so homey. John gave us lots of suggestions before our trip on walking trials, sights and good neighbourhood eats. My 8 year old child was with me he enjoyed counting how many roosters or chicken related items we could find in the cabin- got up to 38! They also had monopoly which was a big hit with my kid as well. We will definitely be recommending their place to friends and family.

Relaxing and cozy guest house.

This was our second stay at this property and we plan to return again next summer! John and Nicole are welcoming hosts who happily share their lovely country farm property and guest house with those who stay with them. Lots of birds, bunnies and chickens to keep you company while you relax on the beautiful porch. Horses, deer and very friendly dogs add to the special charm of this home-away-from-home property. Lovely stained glass windows and Nicole’s many lovely paintings add to the inside charm and decor of the guest house. We were delighted to be invited to help ourselves to the offerings of the large vegetable garden and to find a dozen farm-fresh eggs waiting for us in the fridge.

Horse clinic

My husband and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and natural feel of the cottage and farm. We truly enjoyed having our horse and dog with us for four days. The description of the property and pictures were accurate. The entire property was clean, beautiful and well organized for the enjoyment of guests. We were greeted on arrival and we were orientated to the amenities. The cottage had many unexpected treats; fresh flowers, fresh eggs, jellies and jams. Special considerations were given to providing a comfortable stay for our horse. We recommend the Broody Rooster as a destination for horse or non horse people alike.

Quality time

We spent three days here with our teenagers, trying to get in a little QT before the school year starts up again. We played board games, read books, found a beautiful ocean beach and also a river swimming hole nearby, played disc golf in Nanaimo, and went for a hike at Yellowpoint Park. This place is remote, yet 10 minutes away from things to do! It was 'cozy' for four bigger people but we didn't mind at all. After petting the horses and stargazing at night, both kids said they would like to live at this farm! Thanks, Nicole and John!

A step back in time!

This beautiful cottage was like going back to visiting my aunt on her farm. It’s charming and so relaxing. Loved the ivy covered front porch and the old screen doors with latches. The owners supplied everything, even delicious farm fresh eggs! No dish washer, but somehow it didn’t matter that I had to wash by hand. Nice shower. Washer and drier, back area with grill and table. Complete relaxation. Loved the horses and roosters!! Would love to go back.

Relaxing stay!

The reason why we chose this place is its rural setting in the country but still close enough to town. We needed a break from our journey and enjoyed a relaxing and peaceful stay at Yellow Point. Everything you could need was available to us and more. A box of free range eggs from there own chickens was appreciated. We enjoyed ourselves greatly and are ready to move on.
