About this property

-Lewisia Lodge River Retreat

Please note: This is a 30+ rental only pursuant to Okanogan County rules for rentals.
Lewisia Lodge is a beautiful, cozy house (2700 sq. ft.) designed by a local architect situated on 10 acres of one of the most beautiful pieces of Methow Valley Riverfront. The property is all riverfront....and this section of the river includes one of the best swimming and fishing holes anywhere in the area. (It's featured in the book, "Best Swimming Holes In Washington State".) The house is perfect for families, small intimate gatherings of friends, or large groups. We have also hosted several weddings on the property. The house sleeps 10 (if you count the outdoor sleeping porches), (which by the way, are fabulous), and the open layout is perfect for a lot of people to relax comfortably. The upstairs loft sleeps 8 people comfortably. It is separated into 2 large semi-private sections. In one section, there is one queen bed and 2 twins, and in the other, there are 2 queens and 1 twin. On the property, overlooking the swimming and fishing hole, there is a gazebo (with a queen bed) and deck built right out over the river for lounging, entertaining and cocktails. Just below the gazebo is a perfect place to tube the river. We have some inner tubes in the barn. The house is surrounded on all sides by decks and in front of the house, right on the river, is a huge, beautifully mowed lawn for playing games like volleyball, croquet and soccer. (The house is fully stocked with games for the outdoors and board games and movies for cozy winter nights.) It is filled with cozy spots (2 big window seats) to cozy up on, and the focal point of the living room is a huge, beautiful stone fireplace. The house is fully stocked with wood and kindling. In the winter, the area is covered in ample snow and you can ski or snowshoe right out your front door. (We have 6 pairs of snowshoes for your use.) This is one of the most charming places you will ever stay. It is designed for total peace and serenity, and the views from the house are spectacular.

Please, if you are looking for a place to party hard and get crazy, please do not come here. This is a home for peace and serenity. We prefer 6 people max., but will consider more upon request.

We love this house!!!
We had a really amazing month stay here. Jill is a fantastic house, super responsive and helpful. The house feels like home - it is a beautiful design and just FEELS good, like some houses feel cozy and relaxing and we just loved being here and coming back to the house each day after skiing and hiking and exploring. The property is AMAZING on the river - our son loved playing at the beach and our dogs loved the big property. Beds are all comfortable and the house has everything you need. The BEST cozy couch in the tv room. Close to Winthrop and to many of the cross country trails in the Methow. Highly recommended!

A Wonderful and Memorable Stay
The cabin was clean and well stocked. Two families stayed comfortably and had an amazing time. We enjoyed the fire, the board games, the comfortable beds, and the fully stocked kitchen. Afternoons involved leisurely walks down the river (there are snowshoes if the snow is soft) and time by the fire. It was easy to cook and eat big meals in the kitchen/dining room area. Also, the cabin is perfectly placed between Twisp and Winthrop for easy access to Loup Loup ski bowl for downhill skiing and tubing and to the Methow Trail system for cross county skiing. The host gave us easy access directions and was very responsive. Good times had by all!

Great weekend!!
Everything was wonderful in the house! Such a beautiful location and setting. The inside was clean and nice. It was a bit cold upon arrival, but it warmed up quickly after we started a lovely fire. We were a little disappointed because it had snowed before we arrived and the driveway was only halfway plowed and there was no pathway to the front door. I tried texting the owner (she said that was the best way to contact her) to see if they had a shovel somewhere that we could use to clear a path to the door and she never responded. We made it work by putting on our snow shoes and packing down a pathway, but it was just a bit disappointing as a lot of our group did not have the right shoes on. Overall however, it was wonderful and we had a fantastic weekend enjoying each other, and the outdoors!!

Comfortable and accommodating setting
For are group it was so nice having the many different areas where we could either visit play games or watch something. The peaceful setting is absolutely the incredibly relaxing. There wasn’t on thing that any of the group could come up with that wasn’t there. Thank you for a wonderful time.

Peaceful ski retreat
Jill’s house is a great spot from which to explore the Methow. We loved the cozy movie room and walking along the river every morning. It’s a peaceful and quiet location. Jill was incredibly responsive and helpful. We had some issues with the well water during our stay but Jill was quick to problem solve. Overall it was a great stay.

Beautiful home and location.
An amazingly beautiful home located on the Methow River. Lots of beachfront property with an area down from the house for sitting and sleeping by the beach. Beach area includes an enclosed screened gazebo with a queen bed. There is also a covered area with chairs and a canopy to protect you from the eastern Washington sun while enjoying the scenery. The house is an amazing architectural experience with lots of wood and beautiful art throughout the house. Very comfortable and had everything you could possibly need. We can hardly wait to visit again.

A riverside oasis
Such a perfect house and so well equipped (stocked kitchen, towels, movies, bedding and comfortable spaces) We had three families staying and each had there own general space. The property is the last on the road with tons of river access and land. The riverside deck was amazing with the perfect swimming hole. Owner was very responsive and helpful. Would definitely recommend!

Beautiful location, fantastic space!
We traveled to Winthrop for the Fourth of July this year and stayed in this lovely cabin. Jill was incredibly responsive to all questions and requests for information. For the edification of anyone else thinking of renting this home: there is not a lot of privacy. It was great for us, as we were just two adults and two young children. There are PLENTY of beds. But the entire upstairs is open, separated by a large square open to the living room below. So if you're sleeping up there and anyone goes into the living room or kitchen, you will hear it. On the lower floor, there is a master suite with a door that shuts, and the sleeping porch is off that (also with a door that shuts). So if you are planning on visiting with a large group, just be aware that you will almost all be exposed to each other and the rest of the house. As I said, it worked very well for us and we'll happily rent this home again. There are two bathrooms, both with showers, which was great. My sole complaint was there was not enough hot water to last even a full ten minutes. I contacted Jill about this and she said she'd have a plumber out after our stay to resolve it. The location could NOT have been more beautiful or ideal. Easy river beach access in multiple spots. Beautiful land to explore and play on. Our dog was in heaven. Can't wait to visit this fantastic home again - hopefully next time with lots of hot water!

Fantastic Winthrop Getaway
The house is absolutely stunning. So peaceful and on the river. In addition to the ambience, I have yet to stay at an Airbnb with so many amenities. Anything we could have hoped for, was already taken care of! We were thrilled to have stayed here, and I have already told multiple friends we are coming back! Thank you Jill for your hospitality and sharing your beautiful home.

House and all the amenities that were included were exceptional.
All of my Ice fishing buddies were very impressed with the accommodations. I would definitely recommend this house for both summer and winter groups. I notified the owner of some ice related safety issues on the property and I was informed that they would be looked into immediately. Great follow through. BTW We had a wild turkey looking in one of the windows greeting us every morning.

beautiful property and perfect family cabin
three families very comfortable each with our own space in this lovely cabin. 2 families had their own spot on either side of large loft, we had private master bedroom enclosed downstairs (and our child slept with cousins in the loft). very well appointed. cozy comfy beds with electric blankets and a gorgeous fireplace to chat and play games by. the owner was easy to communicate with. a big perk for us was being able to bring our dogs- they love romping in the snow! and such a beautiful property! looking out at the river or out at the snow covered mountains- one is met with a beautiful view at every turn. thanks jill for sharing this special place along the river.

Beautiful house on a beautiful property!
Our family of four plus two cousins and grandma and grandpa had a wonderful time at the Lewisia Lodge! The house had everything we could have wanted or needed and it was clean, nicely decorated, with lots of space. We will look into going back during the summer to play in the river and enjoy the open air bedding!

Absolutely wonderful
We've rented numerous vacation homes around the world and Lewisia Lodge has to rank as one of the best. It's a luxury home in a beautiful setting with almost total privacy. There's a huge lawn for kids to play on, direct access to a vast stretch of river, loads of natural beauty, tubes for river floating, an incredibly well-stocked kitchen if you're into gourmet cooking, a wonderful porch complete with string lighting for outside dining, and lots of nooks and crannies for enjoying it all. There's even a screened-in gazebo with a made-up double bed for sleeping down by the river. If I was forced to come up with even a small complaint, I don't think I could. As for the surrounding area, the towns of Winthrop and Twisp are only a short drive away. We chose the location because we were interested in day trips to some nearby swimming holes, which the kids loved, and for easy access to the area's numerous great hikes. Even though forest fire smoke took something away from the hiking, our time at the house more than made up for it. The owners should be commended for providing their guests with so much, from the vast spice cabinet to the tubes for rafting to the many comfortable furnishings that seem to be everywhere you'd want them to be. It was a great experience and we can't wait to return.

Great for large families
The Lewisia Lodge sits right on the Methow which was super convenient for river tubing and fishing! We loved the screen enclosed bedroom off the side of the house, it was like sleeping outdoors in comfort! The house was clean and plenty of room for the kids to run and play. We would definitely stay here again especially since it’s hard to find a house rental large enough for our family!

Absolutely perfect
This is our second time staying at this place and we hope it won't be our last. It is a perfect place for a relaxing, peaceful, quiet vacation. There is a lot of solitude, even during a busy holiday. But the place is still conveniently located close to town. We especially like all of the outdoor locations to sit, lounge, read, and just watch the day go by in peace. We would highly recommend it.

Amazing property
We stayed with a party of 7. It is the ‘shoulder season’ now so the area is kind of in between winter and spring/summer but even so, it is very beautiful. This home is so cozy - it is all you’d want for a cabin on the river to be. Plenty of room for all of us to sleep and to hang out - lots of great sitting areas. The property itself is spectacular - right on the river and so many areas to explore. I can imagine it would be truly incredible in the summer when you can recreate on the river - we sure enjoyed just walking along it. It was also a great bonus that there were snow shoes provided as we made good use of those! The sleeping space upstairs was great for our family of 5 - kids and parents all had separate beds and spaces although together in an open area - if you’re seeking true privacy just be aware there is one proper bedroom suite and the other spaces are open but very comfortable. Everyone wished it was warm enough to try out the screened in sleeping porch! We’ve stayed in great VRBOs all over the place and this one definitely makes it to our favorites - the first night we were here going to sleep our 7 year old son said ‘mommy this was worth the long drive (from Seattle it’s 4.5 hours) because this place is awesome.’ Couldn’t agree more with the kid!

About the host

Hosted by Jill Hansen

Host profile image
My name is Jill Jacobsen Jack, and I have owned the house since 2000. It was designed and built by my father (in 1992) who was a well known architect in the area. It is a true gem...cozy, yet elegant and roomy. The property has been in my family for 30 years and it is one of the prettiest pieces in the area. It is a sacred place for me, my family, and many who have stayed here.

Why they chose this property

The Methow Valley has over 300 miles of groomed ski trails....it is one of the best (if not the best) destination spots in the country for cross country skiing. The hiking is some of the most spectacular in Washington state, and all the hikes are just a few miles away from the house. The mountain biking is phenomenal as well. The house is stocked with hiking/skiing/biking guides to help you navigate the area. In the wintertime, we provide 6 pairs of snowshoes for your use. One of the best fishing holes in the area is on the property. Also one of the best, deepest swimming holes. (Featured in "Best swimming Holes in Washington".)

Other activities include, hot air ballooning, horseback riding, rafting, kayaking, tubing on the river, snow mobiling, and heli-skiing. If you love the outdoors, you just won't find an area that has more recreational activities, all seasons of the year, in such an amazingly beautiful environment.

What makes this property unique

The house is located almost evenly between the towns of Winthrop and Twisp (4.4 miles from each.) Both are charming little towns with great shopping and restaurants, and 2 amazing brew pubs with locally brewed beer and live music on the weekends. The river is deep and wide on the property, perfect for tubing, kayaking and swimming.
