About this property

Lovely Village House with Great Light and Fantastic Views

Beautiful 300-year old village house with magnificent oak floors and original marble fireplaces. This spacious light-filled house retains many original features including high ceilings, intricately carved moldings and an elegant winding wood staircase. The house features a large eat-in kitchen complete with all modern appliances (dishwasher, 3-burner gas cook-top and convection oven). The kitchen is well fitted with dishes, utensils and serving-ware for up to 10 persons. There are 3 large luxuriously furnished bedrooms each with comfortable beds and large sunny windows. The house has 2 full bathrooms and 1 half bathroom.

The living room is bright and stylishly decorated with ample seating and flat-screen cable television. Another surprising feature of this house is its amazing roof-top terrace with stunning views of the surrounding village and picturesque countryside. In addition to its classic old world charm, this house also has all necessary modern amenities including a washer/dryer, wireless internet access, TV and telephone (with free long distance calls to the US and most other locations). The house has optional central heating throughout.

Monflanquin is a historic 13th century hilltop bastide village located approximately 20 minutes north east of Villeneuve-Sur-Lot and is chosen as one of France’s prettiest medieval villages. The house is located just four doors down from the village center with its lively restaurants and bustling weekly market both offering gourmet food and fine local wines. The village has a swimming pool, access to horseback riding and tennis. Lakes, canoeing and golf courses are all available nearby. The village is high on this bastide hilltop so Monflanquin enjoys beautiful breezes and panoramic views.

The Village hosts a 3-day Fetes Medievales on or about August 15 of each year. This large well attended event draws visitors from near and far with a lot of the celebration and activities occurring around the house. Parking in the village is near impossible during the event but the village provides ample satellite parking and shuttles to accommodate both residents and visitors.

Lovely house in a great village
Well appointed and VERY clean house. The best organized and supplied kitchen we've ever seen in a holiday rental! Instructions for guests are great. Only drawback for us is that it is located on the busiest street in the village, next to a café/restaurant and therefore a bit noisy in the evenings. Otherwise HIGHLY recommended property in which we really enjoyed staying.

Best owners we have ever encountered
Besides the property being just what we wanted, The owners have been the best we have ever encountered in all of our short term rentals. They went out of their way to make this rental the best ever.

Amazing stay!
Can't recommend it highly enough! We were fortunate to spend 2 months in this delightful medieval village in a charming 300 year old home. Beautiful views from 4th floor terrace (don't let the stairs deter you - we are 65 and 72 and quickly got used to them), plus a balcony to overlook the village activity. Friendly neighbors, weekly market, excellent restaurants, great location for visiting the many other villages, chateaux and historical sites in the area. Quirky and charming with modern kitchen and bath, handy washer and dryer, and comfortable beds. American owners are very easy to work with and we would love to return soon!

A characterful gem
We had a wonderful family holiday (2 parents and kids of student age) at this superb property. Excellently kitted out, all rooms characterful, and a roof terrace with spectacular views over the rooftops and countryside beyond - a place to enjoy a glass of thelocal wine. The house is located 50 yards from the mediaeval main square in the little hilltop bastide town of Monflanquin. The town has a great selection of eateries and cafes, and on the evening of market day (Thurs), tables are set up in the square and vendors sell meals of local produce. We enjoyed the rambles through the fields, chateaux, bistros, vineyards, further bastides (notably Monpazier), caves, rolling countryside and the town's very good municipal swimming-pool. Thoroughly recommended, a great trip, we intend to return.

Lovely typically French townhouse.
We enjoyed our stay. The house was bigger than we expected. Well equipped kitchen and bathrooms. Ideally a fan in each bedroom would have been great as it was hot when we were there. The terrace was wonderful to watch the sunset and to eat our meals on.

prachtig, oud huis in mooi dorpje
Aankomst etc. goed geregeld.

Absulutely no complaints. Great place.
Great place in a wonderful little bastide town. Well equipped kitchen, huge bedrooms and bathrooms, not to mention big living room and kitchen. Rooftop deck was lots of fun. We did cocktail hour up there, watching cats on a neighboring roof stalk the pigeons. Great wifi service. We would come back in a heartbeat. Michael and Vince sent careful advice annd directions, quite precise. Note that the recommended bakery is down the hill and several hundred yards to the left. A great value, we thought. The only minor irritant was the second floor toilet that ran water longer than it should. A few adjustments to the float solved the problem, though a replacement of the flapper will be needed. When that is the worst thing one can describe, you know this is a great place to stay.!

Fabulous
This home is wonderful. The beds are comfy. The bathrooms are great. The kitchen is well appointed for cooking. There is a super marche close by and the village has anything else. Parking is free and easy. There are many sites nearby. The roads are easy to navigate. I am looking forward to returning. 1 week is hardly enough here.

A great house in a beautiful old town.
We have just returned from a fabulous week away in this lovely house. The roof top terrace really makes it special and the views are amazing! An unexpected bonus was the Monflanquin music and food festival, top artists playing all around the town. A highlight of the week was the evening food tasting event in the beautiful square and more music! There is also an excellent open air municipal pool on the doorstep. The house has everything you could need and lots of local information, including walking routes, which we found very helpful. It is a walking and cycling paradise with quiet roads leading through unspoilt countryside. Michael was very helpful and provided all the information we needed; replying promptly to any questions we had. Would love to return and stay longer!

This house suited us perfectly.
This house served us well. It had every amenity and proved to be the perfect spot for a rest after two weeks of traveling in France. The owners were instantly responsive to any inquiry. Needless to say, the rooftop terrace provided a spectacular view.

Roomy, airy, comfortable home in a historic and friendly village.
The house is comfortably furnished with plenty of space and bathrooms and a full laundry and a full family-sized kitchen. The beds are comfortable, but high. Linens are pleasing, clean, and adequate for all weather and needs. Proper use of the windows and shutters will keep the house cool in the summer and quiet when needed. There were two boulangeries, one butcher, and one epicerie within easy walking distance, and a full village market on Thursdays. The village is large enough to enjoy walking and the tourisme office can help with finding hikes/walks to take in the area. The next-door bar/café has great food and is managed well so that it is not a disturbance to peaceful enjoyment of the home. A quick drive or a long walk gets one to a full grocery/liquor/house-hold items store, pharmacy, and a great boulangerie/patisserie. It is easy to drive to numerous historical sites and other bastide villages but it really helps to have a GPS and the local maps from each tourisme office.

A Most AMAZING French Vacation
I just returned from the most wonderful vacation I have had in the past 5 years. My best friend and I decided to do a girls trip to the SW of France. We chose a Beautiful 300 year old home in Monflanquin. When we arrived, and opened the front door, what a wonderful surprise!! This house is spectacular. Beautifully furnished. A cozy and beautifully equipped kitchen. The Beds and pillows were sooo comfortable. Clean and wonderfully stocked. I felt so at home within minutes of exploring the house. The owners Michael and Vince, were extremely helpful, with all the information they provided. They were so willing to answer any questions we had in preparing for our trip to France, from sites to see, restaurants, tips on money exchange, navigating the towns and villages, weekly farmers markets in the different nearby villages, even recommendations on CD's to learn the language. The village of Monflanquin is so beautiful and friendly. There is so much to see in the Area. After a full day of Sightseeing it was such a joy to come home to our beautiful home away from home at 8 Rue St Marie, in this Beautiful old Badtide Town of Monglanquin, open up a bottle of wine and head upstairs to the Fabulous Roof top Deck... To watch the Falling Stars and listen to the Hooty Night Owls . I look forward to my return Trip next year

Perfect Place in Monflanquin
Our two week stay in this Monflanquin house was heavenly. The location on a charming medieval street was convenient to a number of really fine restaurants, a bakery, bar and services (including an aesthetician where I treated myself to a wonderful facial!). The house was clean, spacious and well laid out. The kitchen was outfitted as well as my kitchen at home so cooks will enjoy making delicious meals with ingredients from the local markets. Did I mention how warm and friendly the folks of Monflanquin are? Always a "bonjour" waiting for you at every turn. And the managing couple Sebastien and Miranda were not only helpful but a wealth of information. We would love to return to 10 Rue Ste. Marie!

A week in Monflanquin in early May
The four of us spent a great week in Monflanquin. The house was comfortable, but it was early may and the weather not surprisingly a bit cold. Vinice and Michael responded promptly to our request to have the central heating turned on. The town is fun, and the house roomy and comfortable; I wish my kitchen were half so well equipped. And, since I was recuperating from an illness, the hours spent on a recliner on the roof in the sun were memorable. I do recommend you take the "round the bastides" trip. many of them are quite charming. Overall all, a very good experience.. Phil Zeigler

This was everything promised & far more
We just loved this place. Vince & Michael were absolutely wonderful & made everything so easy, from ease of payment (which we had problems with in other places), to loads of great pre info & then a wonderful old house, supplied with everything you possibly want and at a really good value price. Sebastien met us, was v welcoming & ensured we had all we needed & were briefed well, though they supply a book with everything in it anyway + lots of good recommendations. The house was old, wonderful & full of character. It was also great to have a fully equipped kitchen with all mod cons, also free wifi, and Sky TV - meant that we could watch the Tour de France with English commentary (though not much time with so much else to do). The village is wonderful, full of history & character - it is deservedly 1 of the "pretty villages of France. It is small but has lots of restaurants, good food & reasonable, both in the square & throughout the village, old & new. All are within walking distance of the house, which is v well located just off the main square. There are also cafe/bars, patisseries (best ones are down the hill), a supermarket, butcher supplying far more than ours do, a good little market & a great Thursday evening with communal tables in the square for the food market - what a great idea & what fun. the house is located next to & opposite a cafe/bar as it is right in the centre of town, so it can be a bit noisy at times. However you can just close the windows or use the ear plugs supplied if you find it is too hot for that. Don't arrive with a big car though as the streets are v narrow & the car is best left parked until you go exploring further afield. The location is fab for this as there are lots of places within easy driving distance for day trips & lots of great suggestions for these are on their website & in the house. It is a bit further from Bordeaux time wise than I had realised & so not somewhere you could access regularly but more quite a long day trip. There are so many other great places to visit all around though that we didn't cover them all in our week - hope to return sometime. The village is on a hill & the house multi story so do need to have people capable of managing stairs & hills. We had my in laws who were in their 70's & they managed fine but not all that age would. They loved their time there as did my sister in law. We had 6 people staying & we all fitted v comfortably. We would all highly recommend a stay in this house.

Great Vacation Home Away from Home
My husband, 3 teenage kids, and I just had the most wonderful vacation at the Monflanquin house. We rented it for 2 weeks and took various day trips from there to places like Lascaux Caves, canoeing on the Dordogne, go-karting in Bergerac. We also took an overnight trip over the Pyrenees and into Spain. The house had every convenience and the kitchen was fully equipped (even blender, food processor, immersion blender, etc.). Sebastien was very nice and helpful and the place was immaculately clean. We especially loved having a washer/dryer for our use so we didn't have to pack enough clothes for 2 weeks. The house is in the center of town and next to a bar, so it can be very noisy, well into the wee hours. It was hot so we couldn't really close the windows much, although when they are closed, you hear much less. They do provide ear plugs, so that's good. The up side of its location is that it's close to everything and one night we even sat on our rooftop terrace and listened to a blues band that was playing at the tavern next door. Monflanquin is a lovely town, but it is a little far out so our day trips ended up being long days because we were so far off the highway. But again, we were Ok with that because of all the plusses with the house. It was truly an unforgettable vacation and this lovely house was a big part of that. I should also say that Michael and Vincent were very responsive and communicative through the entire process - we felt like family!

Well Appointed Apartment in Charming Bastide town
We stayed for a week in mid-June, 2012. Weather was lovely and the town, though small, has a surprising amount of places to eat and things to do. The apartment itself is well stocked with modern conveniences while retaining its innate charm. The view from the rooftop is the cherry on the top of a sumptuous ice cream sundae!!

We love Monflanquin!
What a wonderful experience we had at this lovely house in Monflanquin. The house itself exceeded our expectations and was very comfortable for all six of us. The village is a treasure and we found ourselves spending most of our time in town, although we took several enjoyable side trips. Vincent, Michael and Sebastien went out of their way to be helpful. We highly recommend this house to anyone interested in finding a unique place for a visit.

A house with character
This 300 year - old house has been upgraded to give an excellent balance of old-world charm and modern facilities. It is perfectly situated right in the heart of the village, very close to local shops, restaurants, and the market square.

Monflanquin, France review of property
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this wonderful home. This historic residence is large and very comfortable, having all the amenities anyone would want (washer/dryer, wireless internet access, satellite TV, etc.). All the rooms are generously proportioned and beautifully furnished. Watching the sun set behind the rolling hills from the roof top terrace, sipping a glass of the local wine, was a highlight of any day. The village itself is within easy travel distance from Bordeaux and Toulouse and is a charming bastide village set in a beautiful, picturesque location. Close to many other towns and villages of historic interest, you can visit many sites without the crowds of the usual “touristy” areas. Although not large, the charming town has great little restaurants, bistros, bakeries, shops, etc., all in easy walking distance from the house. This is an idyllic spot for a memorable vacation.
