About this property

Restored Umbrian Stone Farmhouse with Pool and Panoramic Views

Il Pianaccio is our home in Umbria, Italy. It is a traditional Italian farmhouse constructed with thick stone walls, wood beams and terracotta floors and roof. We have recently completed a total renovation of the house and it is now available to rent. The house is located on 2.5 acres in the country but within sight of the nearest village, Pesciano. It makes a perfect place for a relaxing holiday with lots of peace and quiet while being near many of the most popular tourist areas in Umbria and Tuscany. The area surrounding the house is ideal for hiking and for viewing native wildlife. Not surprisingly, there are many great restaurants within a short driving distance. We would be happy to recommend our favorites. With its thick, stone walls; shuttered windows and doors; and elevated location, the house remains comfortably cool even during the hottest months. All windows are screened and the lower windows and doors have decorative security grates.

The house comfortably sleeps 10 but can also accommodate smaller groups. It has three floors with five bedrooms, four bathrooms (two of which have separate shower and tub), two living rooms with ceiling fans(one with satellite TV and DVD player), and a dining room with a table for ten. It also features a gourmet kitchen with a large refrigerator and freezer, a five-burner gas stove with two ovens, Carrera marble countertops and a dishwasher. There are three fireplaces and a laundry room with a washer and dryer. Outside, there is a large covered pergola with a table for eight and another table for four. A balcony off the middle floor at the other end of the house is a perfect location for a morning caffé. There is a new 12 meter by 5 meter pool with glass tile surfacing and a renovated outdoor wood-burning bread/pizza oven.

The renovation of the house preserved it in the traditional style for Italy with exposed beams and terracotta floors and ceilings. The bottom floor features three brick arches which create an open floor plan for the living room, dining area and kitchen.

The house is located in Umbria, the green heart of Italy, about ten km from Todi. It is convenient to Orvieto, Assisi, Deruta, Perugia, Torgiano, Gubbio, Montefalco, Spello, Spoleto and the other points of interest in Umbria and is a good base for going to attractions in Tuscany. Rome and Florence are each approximately a ninety-minute drive.

August delight
A fantastic house for a large family. Plenty of space for everyone. We enjoyed having all our meals outside on the terrace - the wisteria creating plenty of shade in the heat of the day. The pizza oven was a great success and not too challenging for the cooks! Have stayed at many houses in Italy but have never experienced such a wonderful pool - a truely idyllic setting.

Thoroughly Enjoyed the House
We visited here in June and weather was great! We only had 2 couples at the house and it was very nice to enjoy the area and the house itself. It was nice to have the windows open and night and hear the various birds through the night and early morning. Yes that is a cuckoo bird you hear. Be sure to plan time in your stay to just relax and enjoy it. We made some great pizza in the stone oven. Several good cookbooks supplied that you can have some fun cooking and still experience some good Italian food and wine. Would love to return to the area again. We were able to do a few 'day' trips to Assisi, Orvieto and of course Todi. We had read on one of the posts about Daruta for the ceramics and that is a nice little adventure to shop. Some really nice cantinas to experience some of the local wines. First class accommodations. I am glad we were able to stay here on our first visit to the region. We hope to be back and bring more friends and family to enjoy the house and the area. As far as transportation you will need a car in this area. Highly recommend and all-wheel drive auto if you can get one to help navigate the gravel roads.

Wonderful Property
My wife and I joined our good friends Joe and Connie for several days at this wonderful farmhouse. The views were outstanding, the setting was in the farm country outside of Todi and was just perfect. The kitchen was first class, the patio was ideal for cocktails and wine after a "hard day" of touring Umbria and Tuscany, the dining room got good use, the bedrooms were nicely appointed and we enjoyed every evening with the windows open and a cool breeze. We had a great time heating the outside stone oven and making pizza from scratch. This is a wonderful home and we plan to visit again.

IT REALLY IS HEAVEN
In July 2011, my husband and I & 8 of our closest friends converged on Il Pianaccio in Umbria, Italy. It was our second visit to this heavenly place. Our first time being in late August/September 2008. The weather was spectacular on both occasions as were the accommodations. The house is very spacious and comfortable for a large group. All the amenities of home and more. We enjoyed great meals on the outdoor pergola, bocce ball games, pool time (with a view) and relaxing. Be sure to take advantage of the pizza oven...nothing better. Some enjoyed the great hiking opportunities that lie just beyond the driveway. Our day trips were equally as special. A trip to Deruta is a must if you love ceramics. Also, the hilltop town of Todi is definitely worth a few hours of exploring the wonderful little shops and restaurants. We would highly recommend a stay at this spectacular Italian villa. You won't be disappointed. We certainly hope to visit again in the future.

Paradise- Highly Recommend!
After researching Umbrian villas to rent in June 2010 for our party of 10, we decided on this one. It was absolutely wonderful! The Villa is in the picturesque Umbrian country-side and is a perfect place to relax. It is beautifully appointed with all the comforts of home and more. The Villa was immaculate and well-maintained and more than lived up to our expectations. The surrounding area has numerous hiking trails-including a trail over a Roman bridge. The pool provides a soothing place to cool down and enjoy the day. Nearby Todi is a cultural center with fine restaurants and shops. We enjoyed exploring some amazing medieval villages, all just a short drive from the Villa. Overall, it was a five star experience and we would definitely recommend this Villa to anybody looking for a special place to stay in Italy. Two couples in our group are staying here again in June (2011). We're envious!
