The Space:
THE HOME:

Following your approach down a long drive, two theatrical statues greet you at the entrance gate. Pull into the circular drive. You have arrived at Rathlin River Retreat! Your vacation starts now.

Send the kids to the game room with ping pong and foosball, stretch your legs, and take it in. The house beckons with its grand entrance, but first, the view from atop the bluff is where you go next. Breathe in the fresh air and gaze out on our quiet cove and the Corrotoman River. Walk down to the dock and get close to the water. Note the outdoor shower, fish cleaning sink, kayaks and paddle board.

On your way back up the stairs, the pool is to your right and overlooks the cove. Lounge chairs and patio seating provide great vantage points for keeping an eye on the pool activities or stretching out with a book. Or napping. Or whatever makes you happy.

Let’s go into the sunroom next; the best room in the house. Mix a cocktail at the bar or bring your morning coffee here to watch the river wake up. This room faces North West and is a prime sunset viewing space. (As is the entire back side of the property actually). Also a great gathering space for checking phones. (Wait, no. Not that!).

From here access both the well-equipped kitchen, the comfortable living room with breakfast (or poker) table, and the cozy living room. Grab a game or book from our small library and kick back.

On the other end of this comfortable one level retreat are the bedrooms. The king suite with private bath, a fun room with two queens, and a third bunk room that sleeps four. The last two rooms share a beautiful renovated bathroom.

On the lower level is an escape room. Roll out your mat or lounge on the daybed when it all gets to be too much! Laundry is adjacent. (The daybed is not a sleeping space).

THE COTTAGE:

The Cottage is a small, private suite separate from the main house but super close. It’s perfect for all manner of guests, from the grands who like quiet to the couple looking for a bit more pri-va-see. Truly escape the group in this newly renovated space with a king bed, full bath, and…wait for it…towel warmer. Treat yourself by calling dibs on this one.

THE GAME ROOM:

Lots of foosball spinning, dart throwing, and ping pong smashing fun to be had here. Oh right. The kids. You left them in the game room! Go rustle them up and plan tomorrow’s activities. There is so much to explore in the Northern Neck. That is if you can pull yourself away from this paradise!

*Please note, the boat on the dock is not for guest use, but please bring and dock your own boat during the stay. Check out Yankee Point Marina in Lancaster for launch information.

Add to your wish list or book it right now!

Guest Access:
Guests have access to the entire property including use of pool, dock, guest suite, and game room.

The Neighborhood:
Virginia's Northern Neck is a peninsula surrounded by unique and beautiful marshes, creeks, and bounded by the Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers. You'll find many opportunities to explore out on the water. And Rathlin is right on the Corrotoman River, a tributary of the Rappahannock!

Close to several mid-Atlantic cities, this vacation rental is the perfect place for gathering family or friends At the end of a long drive, with no other homes in sight, this retreat is perfect for decompressing. Our pool is oh-so refreshing, and launch complimentary kayaks or paddle boards, or bring the boat!

For dinner you could throw some local oysters on the bbq, grill up some fish from your charter excursion, or cruise into Irvington for dinner at one of the local restaurants. We love them all! A few more miles down the road in White Stone, be sure to visit Adrift. Fantastic restaurant with locally raised chef trained at the Inn at Little Washington.

If you can pull yourself away from Rathlin, get out there and see what there is to see. Small towns, scenic byways, friendly locals, shore birds, the Chesapeake Bay.... It all awaits. Pick up fresh farm items at a local farmers' markets, stop into a few unique boutiques, and grab some house made donuts at Chesapeake Donut Shop in White Stone.

Fancy some culture not of the aqua variety? Visit the Rappahannock Art League in Kilmarnock, Allure Art Center in White Stone, or take in a show at the Lancaster Playhouse. We even have an orchestra in these parts.

For rainy days, head over to Compass Entertainment in nearby Irvington. This amusement center has indoor arcade games, putt-putt, a climbing wall, a movie theater, a bar, a restaurant, and more. Kids of all ages love it!

You may also enjoy exploring the Northern Neck's many designated "Trails," such as the Oyster Trail, the Wine Trail, the Water Trail, the Artisan Trail and, not to be outdone, the Coastal Waterfowl Trail.

Just a short list of the many things to do and see in the Northern Neck. So, relax here, where you are more likely to rub elbows with oystermen and artists than lawyers and lobbyists. Rathlin River Retreat beckons you to slow down, breathe the salt air, and live like a local. You may even decide to become one.
