FAQs:

Q: How close is the cottage to Acadia National Park?
A: Great question! Many first-time visitors think that the only way to get into Acadia is through the Park Loop Road in Bar Harbor, but in reality the park is spread out all over Mount Desert Island (and beyond) and is connected via the extensive Carriage Road and trail system. The closest access point is the Western Mountain connector road, just 1/4 mile from our door!

Q: How many vehicles can I park?
A: The driveway has a capacity for up to three vehicles.

Q: Is early check-in available?
A: Unfortunately we are unable to offer early check-in as we almost always have a group checking out the same day as the next one arrives. We need the entire time between groups to properly clean and prepare the space for your arrival.

Q: Are pets allowed?
A: Yes, pets are allowed at Brook House for an additional fee.

Q: What if the weather is bad/the Park is crowded? Can I cancel?
A: Please refer to the listing for a description of the cancelation policy. Just as our guests expect to have their reservations honored, we also rely on consistent bookings to continue operations and do not have the ability to absorb last-minute cancellations as many hotels do. Though we can't control the weather, the Mount Desert Island area has lots of rainy-day activities to keep you entertained any time of the year!

Q: How far away is Bar Harbor, groceries, etc?
A: Distances to local attractions from Brook House:

Bar Harbor (restaurants, hospital, shops, etc.): 15 miles / 25 minutes
Bangor (big-box stores, airport): 51 miles / 1 hour 15 minutes
Downtown Southwest Harbor (restaurants, bars, shops): 2 miles / 5 minutes
Ellsworth (shopping, supplies): 20 miles / 31 minutes
EV Charger (Level 2): 2 miles / 5 minutes (located at town Library)
Grocery Store (Southwest Food Mart): 2 miles / 5 minutes
Ktaadin Resort/Baxter State Park (for white water rafting, moose watching, climbing Katahdin): 131 miles / 2 hours 30 minutes
Portland (city & airport): 178 miles / 3 hours

Note: For safety and security, we have motion-activated security cameras on the exterior of the property which will be active during all stays.

Bar Harbor 3 day stay

It was exactly what the pictures showed, the area was very convenient and perfect for the dogs, it's near some businesses vs a neighborhood, but was quiet and secluded, I would definitely recommend.

House was better than listed

I felt that the house looked better than the listing. Backyard is right on the Acadia National Park border, and you can easily walk into trails from just a short distance away

Out East

We had a wonderful time at Acadia and Desert Island. The home was very quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed the outside screened in gazebo. The living room, kitchen and dining areas were very spacious for gathering and visiting. The house offered all needed amenities for eating in.

Amazing

We stayed here in early October and had a fantastic stay. The house is close but also just far enough from bar harbor and the park. We did a suggested morning hike right from the house and it was amazing. So convenient to not have to find a parking spot in the busy season. Conveniently close to the house was an amazing coffee shop/bakery (Milagro Coffee and Espresso). The stars were also a sight not to be missed. We were able to see some shooting stars on our last night. Could not recommend this place enough.

Hidden Gem

We had an incredible time staying here! The house was incredibly clean, comfortable, and stocked with anything you might need for your stay. Brandon and Veronica were very gracious hosts. We lost power for a day due to a tropical storm and their team was super accommodating. They gave us waters and sent their friend over with lights, candles, and games until the power returned. They responded quickly to any messages and made sure we were taken care of. The house is in a perfect location as well. It’s on a quieter side of Acadia but is also just a short drive to Bar Harbor and the main Acadia attractions. It’s nice to have access to Acadia without the crowds plus trails that are all nearby. We loved our stay and can’t wait to return! Highly recommend.
