Scenic hiking trails and wild ocean beaches are all around you at this McKinleyville retreat, beautifully situated with an ocean view on the west side of town. This home is a respite after days of adventure, where you can watch movies by the gas fireplace, tell stories around the firepit, and stargaze in the hot tub out back.

This west-facing home sits on a landscaped, half-acre corner lot, less than two miles from the center of small-town McKinleyville. Stroll around the corner to meet up with the Hammond Trail for morning walks and incredible nightly sunsets on the Mad River. In this spot between Arcata (six miles south) and Trinidad (eight miles north), you can get out and explore with ease with Mad River Beach (four miles), Cal Poly Humboldt (six miles), Trinidad State Beach (nine miles), and Redwood State and National Parks (28 miles) all close by.

The great room acts as the center of activity, offering a lovely space to read in the warmth of the fireplace, play cards in the glassed-in dining area, and have your favorite movies streaming in the background. The adjacent kitchen is well equipped for all of your needs, offering stainless steel appliances, all sorts of culinary tools and gadgets, and an island with bar seating for easy meal prep.

Spend your evenings in the private yard out back, roasting marshmallows at the firepit and soaking in the hot tub with string lights twinkling in the background. When it's time to turn in, leave your swimsuits in the care of the washer/dryer and retire to two comfortable bedrooms. Each has a wonderful new mattress and is paired with its own full bathroom.

Very nice place to stay.

Very clean and well appointed. Provided everything you needed. Beautiful grounds. Only disappointment was the ad stated ocean view. There was none, felt that was disceptive.

Spacious, comfortable

Well-appointed home with lots of dedicated spaces for people to enjoy one another or alone time. 7-person hot tub. Comfy beds. Stocked kitchen. Quiet neighborhood. Big yard.

A lovely stay

We had a lovely stay at Good Fortune. A perfect size for a couple or small family and very well appointed. I can’t think of anything else we would have needed. The home is comfortable and cozy. A great base for a great region! One very minor note - the number of bath towels provided was pretty skimpy for a week plus stay in a damp climate. This will definitely be on our list for a return trip!

Great house with everything

So nice to be able to just jog or bike to the trails. We rode our bike to clam beach which was 2.8 miles I think, on the Hammond trail. Wonderful using the hot tub and the outdoor gas fireplace. The beds and bedding were super cozy. Loved it

McKinleyville VRBO Review

Nice house near the beach. We enjoyed the easy access to the Hammond Trail and the beaches to the North. Redwood NP is about 30 minutes to the north so made all of our destinations easy to get to. Airport is 1.5 miles away so super easy travel day. Thanks!

Private, Peaceful and Clean

Location was good for us. Home was well furnished and in a quiet neighborhood. Kitchen appliances are upscale and well stocked. And beds were comfortable. All the furniture was comfortable. Spa was very relaxing and water pressure in showers was good. Walking distance to trails and located close to national and state parks.

Lucky Fortune was delightful

We were delighted by the house. It was somewhat larger than necessary for the two of us, but that just made it feel like home. Great hot tub. Four outdoor conversation areas on a half-acre made us wish we had more guests with us. We could not locate the power switch for the kitchen sink disposal, so we called the manager who immediately sent us to the right spot. We did not know the trash pick-up schedule in sufficient detail, but the neighbors were happy to advise us. Everything was very comfortable. We hope we have occasion to stay again.

Great in every way!

I have stayed in many coastal rentals, and they are always a wonderful experience due to the location, but this may be my favorite yet. Everything was so comfy that if I could have shopped this home, I would have wanted to take home most of the furniture and textiles. So many soft blankets and towels. And that hot tub!! Not to mention all the beautiful art throughout. Loved the humorous nods and attention to detail at every level. Even the cupboards were labeled! And what a great location. Only minutes from our daughter’s college campus and off-campus house, so we got to steal moments of fun while getting her moved in. We walked to the nearby Hammond Coastal Trail, drove up to Clam Beach to watch the sunset, went for a long walk at Trinidad State Beach. And did I mention the hot tub? Hot, clean, with powerful jets. One of the nights we had a few of her college friends over for dinner, and they enjoyed the many games and big smart TV. Never found the time to try out the fire pits, but maybe next year. It was an absolute oasis in the midst of a very busy week. Footnote: all the usuals were good: communication, check in, parking, quiet neighborhood, shower pressure, overall cleanliness, nice workspace, well stocked kitchen with quality appliances, easy access cleaning supplies, complimentary dish soap and laundry soap. Maybe bring your own TP and hairdryer if you’ll be there for an extended time.
