4 Day Fishing Trip on Jolly Island with Friends

We had a fun & relaxing time on Jolly Island mid-August. It was our first time staying on the St. Lawrence river and I would highly recommend it. The property owner Hayes was super responsive and the property offers incredible views of the river, basketball hoop, tennis court and a sand volleyball court. The main house is a bit rustic and was built circa 1930 and updated over the years but it was exactly what 9 fishing buddies were looking for and we'll be back again in the next year or two.

Another jolly week at Jolly!

Our group of 10 aging Fishermen had another awesome week at Jolly Island. Great location to get away while being close enough to civilization if you need something you can't live without. Property is awesome, we had one spectacular sunset after another to cap off long days of fishing. Hosts are awesome as well, quickly responding to questions with great communication throughout. We look forward to heading back there again next year!

Beautiful views - Jolly Island

The location was amazing. The new dock was well made and easily accommodated our two boats, one a 25 ' pontoon we rented from Clayton Marina ( great people to work with) and my 21' bass boat. The camp its self was in good shape and well laid out. The refrigerator was pretty neat. The memorabilia throughout the camp was interesting.

Rustic. Charming. Relaxing

I have read some of the reviews before booking and I’m glad I ignored most of them that were negative. Will probably book again next year. The property has character and enough room to roam. Just to be real my party was made up of myself and 4 other guys. We have all grown up together and have know each other for 60 years. Fishing was fun. Rooms were acceptable. Rented a boat from Clayton marina. Also very nice people. Communication with the owner/ manager were spot on.

Fantastic Jolly Island

For each of the past 2 summers, our family has had the privilege of spending 10 days on Jolly Island. In summary, we love Jolly Island and cannot say enough positive things about our experiences there. Swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, basketball, tennis, croquet, hiking, or just relaxing and watching the boats go by - Jolly Island has it all and then some. And it doesn't hurt that the surrounding area offers so much. It would be very difficult to find a place equal to Jolly, particularly when it comes to enjoying time with family and friends, and making memories. It clearly has been and is a very special place for the family that owns it. We cannot recommend Jolly Island highly enough and look forward to a few if not many more stays in the coming years. HGTV needs to get back there!!!!

We were disappointed in the house. The refrigerator did not keep things cold enough, and it took two days to get the oven to the correct temperature, there was a freezer off the walk in basement living quarters which at night was not an easy treck. We had to go outside to enter all the bedrooms and they were not clean. The living room was okay, there were ten of us there and not enough comfortable seating. The tennis court and basketball court has a lot be desired. The showers did not drain well. The screens are all in bad shape, we understand that there will be bugs, but we do not have to help them out. The day before we left the outside maintenance team showed up to do lawn work, the girls were out sunbathing and there were people napping. What if we of not been at the house, there is no way to lock any of the doors, and we all had cash and other items in our bedrooms. The owner was very quick to get back to us when we had issues. There is so much potential in this place, it could be beautiful!!

Family graduation celebration

Worthy of unesco heritage designation. Spectacular rain or shine. Bring extra firewood for the fireplace. Be patient with the Aga stove which takes 5 hours to preheat. Owners very responsive to queries and needs

Great place to go with friends. Host was very responsive and helpful.

We met 2 other families at this home and had a wonderful stay! Home is well equip with all the essentials ! This is a older home with lots of character. The negative previous reviews had been fixed such as plenty of coffee cups and new couch slip covers. We spent most of the day outside with views all around. The kids really enjoyed exploring the island . We had camp fires every night by the river and it was beautiful. The bed rooms are all seperate from the living space, giving plenty of privacy. If i had to say one negative it would be the bugs outside! Lots of mosquitoes/ sandflies but luckily we found some bug spray in the house! If you dont own a boat, you must rent a water taxi to get to the island...which is what we did. We enjoyed our stay.

Amazing home and property!

I've been vacationing in the thousand islands for 41 years and this is the best place we have ever stayed. We had 8 men for our annual fishing trip and each of us loved Jolly Island. There were enough beds for each of us and the dining room could easily accommodate all of us in a house filled with charm and history. We had good internet connection and clear television. Great outdoor grill and deck space. We enjoyed playing basketball , exploring the island and fishing from shore . We spent less time in our boat this year because Jolly Island was so much fun. We are already planning on returning next year.

Overall, one of a kind, tremendous character, and priceless experience

We had an absolutely fabulous time. Our group used the place a summer vacation for the entire family and lots of friends. Over the course of a week, we had such a relaxing and picturesque time enjoying a slice of heaven. The caretakers for the property and owners were incredibly responsive which made our stay perfect. Can't wait to get back up to the area and create more memories together is such a lovely atmosphere!

Fantastic sunsets and Jolly Island's privacy outweigh the the Island's flaws.

The privacy and seclusion of having the Jolly Island all to ourselves was the biggest asset the Island offered. Our group had a great time enjoying the views and the breathtaking sunsets. Swimming in the clear water, floating on rafts, diving off the swimming platform and paddleboarding in the warm water exploring all Jolly Island's coast was also a fantastic draw over this hot summer. The space and size of the house and bedrooms is adequate for 15 , with numerous activities including hiking Jolly Island's coasts, interior trails, and wilderness we had plenty to do. The biggest issue our group had was the ineffective refrigerator. Although gorgeous in it's craftsmanship it could not maintain stable cool temperatures and the freezer was not in working condition. It was nice another freezer was present, albeit in the laundry room. Also the kitchen should be stocked better with better pans/more coffee cups to be honest if we rent this house next year we would bring a 6 pack of coffee mugs and just leave them there. A larger coffee maker would have been great. Another issue was the lack of knowledge with the property the person we rented the property through. We were instructed to bring bed linens, and arrive at Jolly only to find bed linens already there. Would have been nice to not have to lug up sheets and towels. Little maintenance details can make or break a property; over 50% of the screens were ripped or had holes, missing light bulbs in light fixtures, tape on walls and ceilings from prior celebrations, sofa slipcovers that really need a good wash and a better equipped kitchen with glassware and plate-ware. Despite the issues, my group and I would go back. Renting Jolly is less luxury house for the price and more akin to glamping. Having the wi-fi and Direct TV was a nice bonus for the rainy days. The house needs Ice cube trays!

Beautiful location, house and island offer so many different activities for all..

We had a lovely stay on this very private island! There were 10 of us ranging from 8 years of age to 70. We played tennis, basketball, hiked island, exercised at gazebo and took in it's stunning views, fished, went for boat trips, etc... House has an antique feel to it, which was part of house's charm, but yet was very spacious. The breeze felt good in all the bedrooms, and felt like we were at camp waking up to the loons calling on river. A couple areas that need to be updated are carpets through out house, quite dingy so need to be replaced. Water pressure is not the best in most of bathrooms which may be hard to correct on an island. Furniture in common room most likely should be replaced as well. Tv worked very well and very large. Overall we had a great week with our family celebrating my father's 70th birthday. Potter's beach is a couple minutes away by boat, and my kids loved going there and swimming around boat. Very lively beach with lots of people. Swimming to the dock, kayaking and paddle boarding, and fishing were spectacular. Water is so clear in the river you would think you are in the caribbean at times! You won't be disappointed! But plan ahead for your meals because it takes about 25 minutes by boat to dock for a market. Enjoy!

Nature at its Best

If you have never visited Thousand Islands in Upstate New York, put it on your list. The over one thousand islands ranging from tiny ('One Seagull Island') to large ('Grindstone Island') and vast waterway (Saint Lawrence River) create an atmosphere of adventure and remoteness that is thrilling to nature-lovers as well as city-folk (like us) looking to disconnect from everyday life and relax in a beautiful setting. The house easily accommodated our large group (6 adults, 8 children), with comfortable beds, enough bathrooms, and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The property is reminiscent of an old summer camp, with the great room as Lodge/gathering place, and the kitchen small but functional, assuming most people will spend the majority of their time enjoying the outdoors, which we did. Property highlights include the natural beauty of the island, and the novelty of having it all to ourselves. The kids spent hours exploring on their own, and kids and adults alike enjoyed many spirited games of Capture the Flag. The small sandy beach was perfect for our 3-year old to play and swim, and the older kids loved jumping off the dock and racing to the swim raft and back again. The water was clean but chilly (refreshing, we liked to say!). Property owner was friendly, very helpful, and always responded quickly to questions and requests. Areas for improvement include fixing the low water pressure in one shower, updating great room furniture (couch has seen better days), and adding a full set of plates, bowls, coffee mugs, and wine glasses to the property. There was not a complete set for our group, so we supplemented with paper and plastic products, Overall, a fantastic summer get-away! Lots of great memories made here!

Spectacular setting for a family vacation

Great backdrop to relaxing and enjoying family and friends. Ample amenities on a large private isle in the heart of the 1000 Islands region. Perfect for fishing, boating, and site seeing without the crowds of Alex Bay or other tourist spots. I'm a repeat customer and highly recommend this property.
