About this property

Victorian Mansion 1 Mile from Downtown Minneapolis

Imagine living at the peak of Victorian opulence and luxury, but with all of today's comforts and amenities, and you'll have The Lion's Greene.

Painstakingly restored and renovated, this 6BR, 4BA, 4-level, 4,500 sq ft home means there is space for, and something for everyone. Restored historical interiors with all-new plumbing, electrical, insulation and heating, means this home looks like old, works like new :)

Each bedroom more amazing than the next, with its own unique story, professionally designed, and all feature at least one walk-in closet with built-in storage.

The Louvre: filled with art and photography, featuring a vintage double bed with tufted headboard, and direct access to the 2nd story deck. Enjoy your coffee and relax watching the sunrise. Or, watch the sunlight sparkle off the city skyline as the sun sets.

The Bishop's Bedroom: rich and lavish, this room will bring you closer to heaven with an amazing solid oak double bed and satin sheets. Featuring vintage marble-top vanity and walk-in closet with original leaded glass window.

The Aviary: Designer fabric ceiling, shimmering wallpaper filled with birds, 2 walk-in closets, an amazing hand-carved, marble-top sideboard, and King Bed make this room cozy and bright. Enjoy the private sunroom directly off this bedroom, leading to the 2nd story deck.

The Admiral's Turret: Regal and majestic, this room is an homage to The Admiral himself. Blue, gold, and green hues echo the oceans and the seas. Dive into the king-size bed with waves of pillows. A hand-carved,18th century English sideboard from The Admiral's personal collection stands next to the bed. Sit in your leather chair in the turret, sipping on your drink of choice, watching over your command.

The King's Suite: pretty much says it all. See it to believe it. 12' ceilings, 40" wide crystal chandelier imported from an Italian house of royalty, fireplace and mantel, cozy reading nook, master closet with his/her dressers, and a bathroom too amazing for HGTV.

White Trees in The Onyx Lounge: King bed with unimaginably soft faux fur bedding and pillows. Custom tile accent wall with fireplace. Big modern dresser and large double closet for anything you travel with.

The Onyx Lounge in the lower level features seating, custom built-in bar, BA, exercise room with elliptical, TV, and sauna. 4K projector and 110" screen for an AMAZING place for movie-night, gaming night, or whatever you want to do with 110" and 4K pictures.

Your outdoor entertaining and relaxation options are abundant. Take it easy on the limestone front porch, or on the expansive rear sun porch/deck. 2 bedrooms have access to the 2nd story deck. 1st floor sun porch has 55" 4K smart HDTV. Large 5-burner professional gas grill, table that seats 6, and an outdoor seating seat with couch, chairs, ottoman and other seating. Open the 2 French doors, and suddenly you have an outdoor area that flows into the sunroom for one heck of an entertaining scene.

The home is located a mere 1 mile from Target Field/downtown Minneapolis, in the historic Old Highland neighborhood. Insanely easy access to light rail, public transit, and all major highways. Minutes to the North Loop, Uptown, NE, and other desirable Minneapolis neighborhoods. Also, 2 miles from Theo Wirth Park, one of the biggest and best regional parks in the country. City-living + easy access to outdoor recreation. Seriously, we can't say enough about Wirth. Whether it's mountain biking, cross country skiing, golfing, hiking, swimming, fishing, sledding, or frisbee golf, this park, with the new Loppet Trail Head facility, has become a regional (and national-wide, host of the US Open Skiing event) destination for outdoor recreation. Check it out, directly west of the property right down the road. And 1 mile in the other direction, you can walk along the Mississippi. Best of both worlds.

Things to Note (these also include the house rules)
*The yard itself is still in progress and hasn't been landscaped yet. It is NOT an amenity and we should not be punished for any expectation you may have. Work may be done on the exterior if there are longer stays, if guest grants permission
*The garage is not available
*The home is located 1 mile from downtown. With this comes an amazing, centrally located home near anything you want to do. It also comes with certain things that come along with the inner core of the city. If you're wanting the burbs, this isn't the home for you. Right on the bus line, although personally I believe the street isn't that busy, and the new windows do an amazing job of keeping the home quiet.
*construction is being done on the house next door and across the street.

House Rules (we will also send these prior to check-in and they include a user manual of sorts)
*parking on-street opposite side of the home.
*There is NO smoking inside the house of any kind. Smoking inside will be an automatic charge of $(bid by contractor)
*Shoes OFF at ALL TIMES. This has been proven by the CDC to reduce germs and overall reduces wear and tear to hardwood floors, carpet, and is the EASIEST way to keep the house clean.
**ABSOLUTELY no moving of furniture!! Moving furniture is the easiest way to cause damage, especially to the floors. If you need to move something let me know. Our cleaning crew get paid to clean, not move.
*please make us aware of any issues or concerns within 1 hour of check-in. We'll take any action we can so everything is to your satisfaction. We feel we should not be punished (via comment/negative review) for anything not brought to our attention not given the opportunity to correct to your satisfaction
*Please turn off the little battery operated tea lights we put in the sconces in the DR when not in use :)
*The remote to LR fireplace is on the mantle. Al remotes (TVs, fireplaces, AC units) are to be returned to where you found them. Loss of remotes will be charged.
*No noise or loud activities after 10pm. Please respect the neighbors. Vice versa, if the neighbors are being an issue, please let us know!
*Do NOT put water in the sauna heater. Please sit on towels or yoga mats.
*one garbage can is for recycling, one for trash. We put some cans in the recycling bin to get you started.
Please review Minneapolis guidelines for recycling and follow them. Plastic bags are NOT allowed in recycling bins, for example. If we have to go through the trash to properly sort recycling and garbage you may be charged. Please familiarize yourself with the recycling guide-
https://www.minneapolismn.gov/media/-www-content-assets/documents/recycling-guide-english.pdf. Guests with unsorted or trash in the wrong containers will be charged a fee.
*please turn the front and rear exterior lights on/off at dusk/dawn.
*Please do not use bath towels as makeup removers or rags
*in the Onyx Lounge,
The controller Velcroed on the right end table controls the ceiling light in Onyx Lounge bedroom.
*Please clean before you leave and leave house as you found it. You do NOT need to make the beds :) Please leave all used towels on either bathroom floor.
*Vacuum cleaner is in Lounge closet. Cleaning supplies if you need or wish to use them are under kitchen sink.
*Close and LATCH/lock all windows.
*Feel free leave any clean reusable\extra food or drink. We usually donate those to local charities.
Your main entrance is the rear deck door. To unlock, enter the code, push # and gently pull the handle toward you so the latch actuates. The lock is "sleeping" if it's been inactive, so you're not entering the code until you hear the first "beep." To lock, simply press the # button for 2 seconds and pull handle in a little. It will say "locked" when done.

Just about the perfect place I wish i could live here!

The pictures on vrbo does not do this home justice, it was literally one of the most magical buildings i have ever stayed in! The beds and furniture were comfortably, the chandeliers were beautiful, there was just so much space for everyone! I was able to celebrate my birthday with SO many of my loved ones. I had so many guests obsessed with how each bedroom had a unique theme- and the primary bathroom is to die for!!! I wish I could use that deep soaking tub every night! Blake the host was super nice! He asked what my favorite movie was and he had it playing for me when I arrived. It was so welcoming to have the fireplaces on when I got there and a personalized card on the table. I really liked how i was able to text him so that if any issues came uo or if i had questions he was available. It was also very nice that i was able to chat with him the morning of check out and get a late check out!! I know that i am going to be renting this house again.

Beautiful Mansion Getaway

We had a beautiful stay in a mansion near downtown Minneapolis for a moms’ and daughters’ getaway. The neighborhood was quiet and safe and the home was over the top.You can tell that the owner put a lot of loving care into his home‘s restoration and we really enjoyed our stay there. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Very Accommodating...Amazing...The Best

We went from highly stressed, to extreme peace, asurity, and secure. Blake is the best host we've ever had. From beginning to end, Blake was right there for us. Either on the chat and even gave me a direct line to call or text. Every message was replied to immediately. We had one simple issue and Blake walked me through the solution in no time flat.I have to say, Blake was over accommodating, thank goodness! My first booking wasn't as advertised and we were separated and stressed. Blake got us in same day, even though Vrbo doesn't do same day booking. My family is so.grateful because Blake didn't have to.The home was exactlyas advertised! Amazing home, great for families! The basement is unbelievable! Very good choices with the movie screen and a workout room with a sauna! The top floor is the primary suite. It was very luxurious and the tub, .y goodness! You talk.about relaxing. Theres a large dining room table for the family, a grill out on the deck in the back yard, and seating on the front porch. If we return, we will definitely be booking with Blake! No questionz about it. Thank you so much for taking care of me and my family, Blake! God bless you! Until next time...

Hidden gem

Victorian Mansion StayWe had an incredible experience at this beautifully restored Victorian mansion hidden in the heart of Minneapolis! The intricate detail in every room was breathtaking, making it a perfect setting for family photos. Each bedroom was uniquely decorated in a vintage style, adding charm and character to our stay. Our group of 17, including teenagers, had plenty of space to relax and enjoy. The sauna was a fantastic addition that added a touch of luxury to our visit. To top it all off, the house was decorated for Christmas, creating a magical and festive ambiance. It was a perfect blend of vintage elegance and modern comfort. We didn’t expect to find such a gem in the middle of the city! The landlord was very accommodating and maintained great communication throughout our stay, making the experience even better. Highly recommended for families or large groups looking for a memorable and unique getaway!

reunion

We wanted to have a family reunion at a location where we had room for everyone to share a meal and visit. We chose this house because it would accommodate up to 99+ people for a gathering and was pet friendly. We had 35+ people for dinner and the house worked for us. The host was available by phone and text a while after we arrived so we could tell him of our concerns with the house. The next day he told us by text that he was 300+ miles away in a location where he was “nearly unreachable with no service” and he was “unable to find anyone” to address our house concerns. We made do. We used disposable dishes, glasses and silverware because the dishwasher didn’t work properly and we bought fans to circulate air on the main floor since the only AC unit on the main floor didn’t emit cold air. I had to take out an insurance policy before reserving the house. After our stay a claim was filled to replace a dining room chair, an antique lamp and repair flooring. I informed the host about the broken chair, but I was unaware of the lamp or floor damage. I’ve asked specific questions about the damages but did not receive direct answers. I was “You’re insured. That’s what it is for”. A great deal of time, work and money has been invested in this house and it shows. The online pictures and description make it sound perfect. One day, maybe it will be.

Gorgeous Queen Anne Retreat

The home is stunning! We stayed here for a couple of nights for a wedding celebration. It's lovingly maintained in the classic victorian style with modern amenities. We especially enjoyed the bedrooms, each one a unique style with colorful taste. The basement recreation area was done in a modern style including a sauna, a theater room, & a snazzy bedroom with shag bedding. There was plenty of street parking for everyone as well. I highly recommend this house if you're looking for a space for intimate celebrations.

Place/manager need attention!

Dining room seated 8, insufficient for 16 family who had assembled for Thanksgiving. No other chairs available. Furnace kept cutting out when shower, dishwasher or laundry run, leaving us without heat. Happened six times in one day! Poor responses when reported. Property description did not match reality.

Fantastic host!!

Blake was a very good host. We originally booked the house for a bachelor party but it became unavailable a few days before our arrival. He reached out and was able to get us another house for cheaper. It made sense since a few guys dropped out a few days before. Prior to arrival he was nice enough to come and turn on the electric fireplace for us. It made the place warm and welcoming. He also left a welcome note and was the first thing I noticed when stepping into the place. Prior to checkout, we asked if we could have the house for another two hours (1pm) as our next destination isn’t open until an hour (12pm) after our original checkout time (11am). He was able to extend that for us so we could hangout a little bit longer. Overall, we would stay with Blake again. I don’t know of a host in the lodging services industry that would allow events at their houses. Would definitely seek and reach out again next time we are in the area.

Fun Family Jaunt

We had a wonderful stay. The property manager was thoughtful and responsive. The property itself was pretty amazing! They are still doing a little bit of work on the property, but it will only be finishing touches to an already wonderful place. We were a little afraid that the house might be noisy, but it was very peaceful and comfortable. Additionally, we were close to so many stores, restaurants, parks, the river, etc. which we could reach very quickly by car, but the plentiful lime rental bikes everywhere made sightseeing super convenient. I definitely would recommend this property!

About the host

Hosted by Blake

Host profile image
Not native to MN, but at this point been here 28 years, all in Minneapolis. I like being a host because I love to offer people unique experiences that contribute to, or enhance, the special moments in their lives.

Why they chose this property

The home is located in Old Highland. All the homes (that are original) are turn-of-the-century marvels that were built by mill, lumber, or other magnates of the upper class from 1890 to 1910. For the last 17 years the homes in the area have been restored one by one. Personally I've done 4 of them. It's also a very tight-knit community, where they welcome renters and homeowners alike.

What makes this property unique

Just look at it ;) You literally won't find anything like it in the city, with everything it has to offer
