A Home Away From Home

This place was so well equipped. Tons of practical and personal touches that made it feel truly welcoming . We have stayed at many different vrbos and you can always tell the difference to one that is just a “rental” vs one that is a home. Attention to details makes the difference. Beds were very comfortable, plenty of pillow choices, 2 bathroom showers, very clean! . Brand new laundry equipment and they even provided dryer sheets! Something we appreciated since we were traveling. The views of the lake were amazing. Beautiful homes all around as well. Very quiet neighborhood . This place has its own private dock and sitting area. It felt private even though homes were close by. Kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans and even had some plastic ware for keeping leftovers. (Again, it was the small gestures that impressed us.) . There are plenty of tvs and even board games. The “sun room” with view of lake was our favorite spot. Lake can be enjoyed even in a cold rainy day from here. Both bedrooms had same view as well . I highly recommend this place and if we lived closer we’d stay again.

Perfect Place

We had an excellent time at this property. It was beautiful inside and out. The location was excellent. It was greatly appreciated that the basics were covered and we did not have to run to the store for laundry detergent, trash bags, etc. It was awesome having our own dock to swim and fish from. There is plenty of outdoor seating. And Winsted has a cute little downtown with multiple unique places to dine. I would 100% stay here again if we are ever back in town.

Lake Time

Jess and her fiance are the best hostess and host. The property is cute; the house fantastic. They anticipate your every need. Home is well stocked for guests. The appliances are top notch. The bedrooms are quaint and very comfortable. Anew the fishing!! 2 of our grandchildren were able to fish for a few days and loved it. They caught their first small mouth bass. The weather wasn't that great, but the family time was invaluable. Card games and laughs were priceless and in abundance. Thank you.

A little spot of sunshine and happiness

The property was just right for our family. We don’t live far from this lake so it was helpful to be familiar with what’s around the area. We were able to have friends and family visit so that we could go out on our boat together and enjoy the water. The house is cozy and just enough room for our family to be comfortable and not feel like we are always stepping on each other. The owners did a great job renovating and we are thankful that they offer up their beautiful home to be rented to families such as ours.

About the host

We are a family-oriented couple that spent the last 2 years creating a retreat that we could enjoy with our large, blended family. We live locally and are very responsive to the needs of our guests so that they can fully enjoy their experience at the lake.

Why they chose this property

We had been looking for a vacation property to use with our blended family for a few years and were focused on the Highland Lake area since we were familiar with the lake and wanted to have a place to enjoy watersports with our children. This is our own lakehouse that we offer to other families when we are not able to use it.

What makes this property unique

Located in the Litchfield hills, this 445-acre lake is Connecticut’s premiere recreation lake hosting Bass fishing competitions and some of the best freshwater fishing in the state. There are over 7 miles of shoreline with an average lake depth of 25 feet. The lake is stocked with more than 12,000 trout annually. The lake is popular with bass tournament anglers, trout enthusiasts, and the fishing public seeking bluegill, perch, and other sunfish for fun or a fish fry. In addition to fishing, the lake is great for waterskiing, tubing, and cruising. There is a Marina for boat rentals and fuel needs as well as a public boat launch. There are also 2 beaches with public parking areas available to guests. Please reach out to the host in advance for policy on pets and use of the dock/boat lift. While the lake itself offers a serene backdrop and relaxing setting, it is still very close to stores that you would need, such as Stop n Shop, Big Y, Lowes, and Target. There is also a CVS right in town for any last-minute pharmacy needs as well as brand new Hartford Healthcare Emergency Health center with an Emergency Room (open daily from 9am – 9pm) and LIFESTAR landing pad. We are less than an hour from the Berkshires experience such as Great Barrington and Lenox (outlets), and close to local breweries and vineyards including the Little Red Barn Brewery less than a mile away. The area is also surrounded by trails for biking and hiking. We are located a short distance from local restaurants, diners, movie theater, antique shops, movie theater, batting cages, bowling, and our personal favorite, Dairy Queen! We are also less than 30 minutes away from 3 local ski resorts: Ski Sundown, Mohawk, and Otis.
