About this property

In the Heart of Trastevere

In a peaceful lane barred by the Aurelian Walls and closed to traffic, you’ll find a delightful apartment, former annex of the 17th century’s Palazzo Moroni, finely restored with wooden ceilings and an independent entrance .

The flat offers a large living room with two single sofa-beds, a double bedroom (if necessary the double bed can be divided in two single beds), a second bedroom with two single beds, a comfortable bathroom equipped with a large shower, a well equipped kitchen provided with cooker, oven, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. Both bedrooms, overlooking a convent’s garden, are very quiet.
Casa in Trastevere no. 2 is located in Vicolo Moroni, in the heart of Trastevere area, at a stone throw from Piazza Trilussa, Lungotevere (the Tiber river embankment), the 16th century’s Ponte Sisto and the magnificent early Christian church Santa Maria in Trastevere.

Vicolo Moroni is a little blind alley barred by the city walls built by order of the emperor Aurelian and closed to traffic. Not far from there you’ll find the Farnesina Palace with Raphael’s paintings and the places dear to “the Fornarina” (the Raphael’s favorite model), the famous Villa Corsini picture gallery and the Botanical Garden. Hardly leaving Vicolo Moroni you’ll be in the middle of Trastevere area with its busy squares and lanes, a real labyrinth of narrow streets, with its ancient churches, illustrious memories and tens and tens of small restaurants, wine bars and eating spots for every tastes and pockets.

Good location, needs maintenance
Great location and super close to lots of nice cafes and restaurants. The bedrooms were comfortable and the living area was spacious. Our main problem was that there was an overall dampness and mould smell. This was evident in the bathroom. The shower was broken and there was mould blooming on the ceiling and an unpleasant damp smell. The bathroom did not reflect the listing image. There is also no washing machine despite it being advertised as having one.

Taste of Rome
We had been to Rome before staying pretty close to Piazza Narvona. We never got a sense of neighborhood. This was definitely neighborhood. We had many choices of cafes and small markets and were central to the places we wanted to visit. Ponte Sisto was minutes away and was our access to the other side of the Tiber. Our ground floor apartment was on a short, deadend street with the church of Santa Dorothea a street away and the wall of a convent garden behind us. The atmosphere couldn’t have been more inviting.

Nice location for walking within charming Trastavere
This property is located at the end of a short alley in Trastevere. It was very clean, but know that the restroom walls are translucent, so be careful which lights are on if you have guests. Overall, it was a great location for exploring Trastevere, as well as the rest of Rome. We were able to go on long walks to the Vatican, the Colosseum, as well as most of the sights in Rome. A fruit and vegetable market is nearby and was great for getting some healthy things, as well as butter, milk, and eggs. There are so many restaurants nearby, as well as some that are open exceptionally late, since we hadn't adjusted from USA time just yet. One quibble was that the listing originally cited that it had a washer and dryer, but this is not the case, we were informed upon arrival that there is one about 5 minutes away, which we did not use. Since we packed light, we were hoping to be able to wash our clothes before the next flat. We were a little disappointed, since I had filtered out the flats without a washer and dryer in my search. Also, for being on such a tiny alley, there was a lot of activity at the end, such as amorous behavior, a water line issue, and a small party with people sitting on our front step, leaning against our locked door, talking loudly late into the night. However, it *was* very comfortable and we got great sleep every night and the location was a nice change from being near Piazza Navona.

Comfort in the heart of history
This apartment is lovely. It is set in one of the most historic neighborhoods of Rome. Lovely restaurants just down the gorgeous cobblestone streets The apartment is clean, modern and sophisticated. My husband and two kids stayed here over Christmas. The two bedrooms and beds are very comfortable, the shower has good water pressure, and the kitchen has everything you will need. Exploring Rome on foot from here was a delight. Within 30 min to the Forum, the Collesium, Trevi fountain and many other jaw dropping sites. If you want to explore Rome and feel like a local in comfort this place is for you. We would absolutely stay here again.

Very pleasant. Very quiet
Good location near busy nightlife area in Trastevere. But very quiet because it is in a Vicolo (small side street or alley with no through traffic. Also a short walk across the Tevere to the best parts of Roma. Taxi stand also nearby and only a short hike to Trams. The apt is clean and well kept. Everything in working order.

Great apartment and a lovely host!
My family of four (two adults and two grown kids) spent a wonderful week in Rome with Marta's apartment in Trastevere as our base of operations. Marta arranged for our pickup at the airport and was at the apartment to greet us when we arrived. She oriented us to the neighborhood and provided expert tips on where to eat, shop, etc. The apartment is beautifully designed, combining new finishes with antique authenticity, and spotless. It e is perfectly located: Trastevere is a happening part of town with many restaurants and bars. It attracts crowds every night and can be quite boisterous but Marta's place is around a corner in a charming, quiet little alleyway. We were never bothered by noise from the crowds. Most of the major historical sites are walkable from Trastevere, though there is a convenient taxi stand just a couple of blocks from the apartment. We will return here whenever we come to Rome and recommend Marta's place highly for a party of four or fewer.

Stylish Apartment in Amazing Location
The most enormous thank you for the most wonderful stay in Loft Moroni. We absolutely loved the apartment: it was stylish & perfectly located. Trastevere was the perfect base to explore Rome & gave the children lots of freedom. We walked everywhere without difficulty & then enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of Trastevere in the evenings. We also loved shopping in the mornings for breakfast: coffee, bread, cheese & hams. Thank you also for your time on our arrival. Your advice was invaluable. We'll strongly recommend your beautiful apartment & hope to return. Thank you again & best wishes.

Quiet 'cul de sac' in Trastevere
This apartment is less than a 100 meters from the beating heart of Trastevere. Yet it is a surprisingly calm little outpost being at the end of a narrow street that terminates at one of the ancient Roman 'Aurelian' walls -- no cars, motorcyles or partiers at night. 2 minute walk to the Sisto bridge that leads across the Tiber to city center with major sights. Neighbors seem to be working class locals and they are friendly. Apartment very modern and clean. Marta great to deal with.

A good vacation stay in Trastevere
We stayed at this rental flat for two weeks in March. We are two adults in the +60s and had friends staying with us for a few days, also in the same age group. We have rented several flats in the area before. What we especially liked about this rental was the fact that it is on the ground floor at the end of a small street without through traffic. We felt very free - and could open the blinds and entrance doors at any time. The flat has been kept in light colours (mainly white and yellow) and feels airy. The two bedrooms are good and have very roomy cupboard space. The bedrooms are at the back and have little traffic noise, none when the windows are closed. We liked the duvets - much more comfortable than the usual blankets! Beds are a bit hard - but we find this usual in every flat we have rented - and we did sleep well. The kitchen and bathroom function well. For a two week stay we would have liked a washing machine, but did manage with some washing by hand. The airconditioning system functioned very well - our stay being in March we used it for heating. The flat gives an overall bright feeling It was cleaned twice during our two weeks stay. For our next stay in Rome we will come back to this flat. Mrs. Nicolini will help with any information you need - and we had no problems getting in touch with her when needed. The area is very central - and we walked everywhere most of the time. As to restaurants and bars - the choice is enormous. For a meal we like to go to Gino - which has been family-managed for many years. We enjoy the food, which is of a very good quality and we enjoy the atmosphere; the staff has been the same for many years and are always helpful, plus they keep their sense of humor while running around - the place is usually filled up with customers. And for a drink before dinner - or a light meal - the Ombre Rosse is a very good place. We liked their aperitivo. There is live music two evenings a week - and it is THE place for peoplewatching!

Trastevere Gems: a hidden apartment on a hidden street!
1 block from a busy street of Trastevere lays the dead-end street where this apartment is located. The main streets of Trastevere are noisy at night, but you don’t hear any of the noise at this apartment; in fact, we left the front door open when we were home. The bedrooms face the convent on the backside of the apartment. The only noise from that direction was a nun watering plants in the mornings. A welcoming and tranquil “noise.” The elderly neighbors are fantastic & are full of great tips! Yes, they only speak Italian. The unit was equipped with the basics. The location is absolutely perfect! There are lots of small markets (including one with organic, gluten-free items) within a 2-minute walk. A 5-minute walk away: DeSpar grocery store across Ponte Sisto and two grocery stores on Via Natale Del Grande: Todis and Panella. Next to these two stores is the daily market in Piazza Di S. Cosimato where you can buy fresh fish, fruits, veggies, etc. It closes at 2p.m. Marta was very helpful in finding us another apartment after our stay at her apartment ended (we wanted to stay at Marta’s for our entire trip but her unit was already booked). She made all of the arrangements for us & drove us to our next apartment. The Internet worked great! For cell service (mine is Vodafone) at times I had to go outside for reception. True, there isn’t a washer but there is a Laundromat in Trastevere: Il Mastello, on the corner of Via Della Pelliccia and Vicolo Del Piede, a 5-minute walk away (yes, lots of things are within 5 minutes, including tram number 8!). They charge €3.80/wash & €2.00/15 minutes of dryer time. It’s also an Internet point with a printer. Constructive criticism: the unit was not cleaned very well, specifically the kitchen. For us, it wasn’t worth it to call Marta about this; we decided to clean the unit while drinking wine. I think Marta needs to find a new cleaning service. The ceiling mounted showerhead wasn’t working; I emailed Marta about this but never received a reply. I know she had family matters she was attending to at the time, so we simply used the hand wand in the shower. The beds were comfortable & the unit is as it appears in the photographs. The movie theater Intrastevere is close; it shows Italian language films & English language films dubbed into Italian. We would stay at Marta’s place again for sure! We tried, but the apartment was already booked. Sad for us but great for the next guests!

2/10 Terrible

Good location, problems with hot water and zero communication when needed
Before we arrived I had to mail Marta a few times with questions and, while sometimes a little slow to respond, she seemed at that stage perfectly helpful and friendly. Once arrived, the place in general was basically fine - cheaply but adequately furnished; very well situated. Clean, and functionally equipped. The bathrooms were in fact among the highlights, with small but excellent showers - until the hot water abruptly stopped working about halfway through our 6-day stay. The owner was at first very responsive - verbally - but never fixed the problem despite, repeated promises that she would and claims that she had. We didn't have one drop of hot water after it first stopped. On the last day I requested a partial refund (around 30% of the rent for each hot-waterless day was my initial proposal) for the days my daughter and I had been obliged to do without the hot water (and in the very hot weather!), for which we were after all paying quite a bit of money. Not a word of reply. Ever since that day she has remained 100% silent - safe, I suppose, in the knowledge that once we were out of Italy there was little we could do to follow up our claim. Such a shame, it spoiled what was otherwise a pleasant stay - but hot water, and integrity from the people you deal with, are two crucial ingredients of a good holiday which Marta was unable or unwilling to provide.

We Loved It
We stayed in this apartment from June 17 through June 23, 2011. We are a small family with twin boys, aged 8. The listing is right on. Everything in the pictures represents this property exactly. It is a great size for us. The alleyway is lovely and quiet, compared to the city. When we were "home" we had the front door open, allowing both light and air to pass through and it was so pleasant. The neighbors are an older couple, and though they don't speak English, and we don't speak Italian, we exchange pleasantries each day. It is very secure with solid wooden doors that you close and lock when gone, and at night. When you exit the alley, you are immediately in the maze of narrow cobblestone streets that is the destination Trastevere. Tons of cafes/restaurants right here. Many travel books suggest that Trastevere is "crusty" or a bit dicey, but it is not. For better and for worse, it is completely safe and touristed. The apartment is clean and simply furnished, the kitchen is simple (like in other big cities we have visited), and it is all Ikea-like. Now, the downsides, which for us are not enough to choose against this apartment: no washer. Our clothes are pretty toasted (little boys who like Chocolate Gelato). So, remember to bring washing detergent for hand washing. The weather is warm and the clothes could dry outside, but it would help to have a drying rack. ( everyone else in the alley lays out things to dry on racks). The nearest grocery store that we could find is a 10 minute walk, which is ok, just had to haul the bags back. I would absolutely recommend this property to friends. Rome has a lot to offer, and you can walk to almost everything that is "classic Rome" from here. We do recommend the Rome Pass, if you really want to see the colosseum, because you can literally walk right past the very long line, and go in the "rome Pass" entrance ( to the left of the line). Then, we used it for our public transportation, as the boys cannot quite walk as much as we could.

Staying here could not have been more perfect!
It's been 2 weeks since we left Roma and I miss it every minute. First of all the photos of this apartment did not do it justice. The place was spotless and very put together. Dealing with Marta before we arrived was very easy. She responded to my emails very promptly and answered any question I had. The taxi she arranged for us to and from the airport worked out prefectly. The location of the apartment was just right. It really made you feel like you were a local. From the gelato place down the street to the market around the corner, all tasty Roma foods were right at your finger tips. An added bonus was our neighbor, Juilanna. Even though she spoke no English and we spoke very little Italian, we hit it off right away! (mind you she was probably in her 60s and me in my 30s) we became fast friends. She even cooked us dinner one night! When I come back to Roma, I definitly would not think twice about staying here again! Caio!

Absolutely Wonderful
I cannot say enough about how wonderful Marta, the location and the apartment is and was. Marta arranged at our request for a taxi to pick us up from the airport and met us at the apartment. She was most pleasant and spent time reviewing sights to see and things to do. The apartment is as it appears in the photos. It is beautifully renovated and every amenity has been thought through. The kitchen could not have been better equiped. The location is charming and very quiet. It made our stay in Rome most memorable.

A Fantastic Experience
We could not have asked for a better experience. It started when we stepped off the plane and found a large Taxi waiting for us that was arranged by our host, Marta. She met us at the apartment and then sat down with us explaining all the things to do in Rome. The map she provided was great an allowed us to be independent. The apartment was everything that you could ask for. It was clean and well decorated. The beds are great and all towels and linens were fresh. The area is fantastic. You are in the middle of a great area teaming with restaurants and shops. The Vatican and Coliseum are walking distance, but bring sturdy shoes as the streets are coble stone. Throughout the week Mara checked in with us to make sure we had everything that we needed. She again arranged for a large Taxi to meet us and take us to the airport. We have used VRBO for several European trips and this apartment was by far our best experience.

Why they chose this property

Ho deciso di acquistare questo appartamento perchè è veramete particolare e caratteristico del quartiere di Trastevere. Si trova in un Vicolo delizioso delimitato dalle mura aureliane e chiuso al traffico.

What makes this property unique
