Welcome to the The Scuba Shack located in the community of Tuwanek, approximately 12 km (7 miles) from Sechelt, situated on the eastern side of Sechelt Inlet at the foot of Mount Richardson. The name is derived from Tuwanek, one of the 4 divisions (septs) of the Sechelt Nation. The Sechelt Indian salmon hatchery and a world-renowned scuba diving site (Tuwanek Point) are also nearby. With its rustic character and country charm, this cottage accommodation provides full amenities to make your stay pleasant and comfortable.

Tuwanek is in close proximity to Mount Richardson, Porpoise Bay, Sechelt Inlets Marine and Tetrahedron Provincial Parks. The Tuwanek area has been home to many summer cottages since the early 60's and today many of the folks who came here as children are bringing their kids to experience all the area has to offer. Some have even chosen to make Tuwanek their home and many people now live here on year round basis. Immerse yourself in the soothing atmosphere of the cottage and remember.....it’s not just for divers.

Amazing stay

The best vacation rental we ever had

The scuba shack is the perfect place for a Sunshine Coast getaway. It has everything you will ever need in a vacation home - and then some: fully equipped kitchen, incl kitchen utensils; a full spice rack; the espresso machine; a fabulous deck with an awesome barbecue; another barbecue that you can take down to the beach; boardgames; high speed internet... Then, of course, there's the hot tub and the nice gazebo with gas firepit that we enjoyed very much! Jonathan thought about everything and our stay here was amazing. 5 min walk to the beach, 10 min walk to the kayak rental station. We will be back and we have already recommended the scuba shack to other friends!

Hidden gem!

The Scuba Shack was a delightful getaway! The host is easy to communicate with and offers many personal touches (chocolates on pillows, robes for hot tub). Our children especially enjoyed their after dinner dip in the hot tub, after a full day of exploring. We really enjoyed relaxing on the patio sipping our espresso! We can't wait to stay in the Scuba Shack again :)

Great cottage for family stay, up the hill from beach

Tuwanek is a great area of the Sunshine Coast, on the inlet side so the water is calmer and great opportunity to see lots of marine life. Scuba Shack is a great little cottage for a family or two couples looking to explore the beauty of the area. It's up the hill from the beach and a few minutes to walk to Pedals & Paddles for kayak/canoe/SUP rental (where we did all 3). The hot tub is a great warm-up after a chilly swim in the ocean, as is the wood-burning fireplace for cool nights. Other nice touches include amenities like the espresso machine, blender, and sticka for roasting marshmallows. Jonathan is great at communicating directly.

Thanksgiving with friends

Perfect size for two couples, we were very comfortable at the Scuba Shack. The kitchen was large enough for us to make a big Thanksgiving roast and had everything we needed. The beach is a short walk away and Tetrahedron park only a brief drive. We felt close enough to explore places but secluded enough for a lovely weekend break. We also loved the hot tub after a big day of exploring!

One of the best family holidays yet!

This was a great place for our family of four. The location is outstanding and close to everything you need while being in the forest. The water was incredibly close and out of all the beaches we visited, the one closest to this place (basically across the road) was the best. The hosts were great to work with, super positive and very thoughtful. You can tell, as soon as you walk in, that the Scuba Shack is a well loved getaway with great vibes. We will be back! Thank you so much.

Fantastic home away from home

Our family of 4 had a wonderful stay at this cozy, relaxing gem of a property from July 4-10, 2019. From the moment we booked the vacation through until we left, we found the owners quick to respond to questions we had & the property was well-stocked with local travel information to help us explore the area. The cottage was clean & very well-equipped with all the things you might need, including sand toys for the kids, a fully-stocked spice rack in the kitchen, board games, movies, & robes to help you get to and from the hot tub without getting chilled. We also slept fantastic in those comfy beds after a evening dip in the hot tub. Although the weather was a bit wet during our stay which prevented us from using the space to its fullest, this cottage boasts great outdoor living space with lovely large deck space, lounge chairs, dining table, BBQ, and the propane fire pit. Another reviewer had commented on the proximity of the neighbouring properties - yes they are close but we never really heard or saw anyone & the lush trees around the yard made it feel very secluded & private. This was our first visit to the Sunshine Coast so we hoped to stay somewhere central which would allow us to easily travel around. This location worked great. We were a short drive to Sechelt for gas & groceries. We were able to take in a zodiac boat tour near the property, golfed in Sechelt, hiked the Skookumchuck Narrows trail, hiked Cliff Gilker park, beachcombed at Porpoise Bay Park, and toured Gibsons & some of the smaller communities up the coast. We had the best time & there is so much left to see that we will definitely be back. In fact, our kids wanted to move in permanently!

Scuba Shack Serenity

Beautiful, well-equipped getaway

We had a wonderful time enjoying this well-equipped cottage - was so impressed that they had thought to provide a few plastic plates and bowl, plus toddler spoons. So often there are only ceramic plates or bowls and meal time becomes me worrying that my independent toddler is going to break something. Everything was so clean and tidy. The hot tub was lovely out on the deck - and felt very private even though the neighbours are relatively close. Jonathan was easy to get in touch with when we had a few small questions, and was a very welcoming host. We thoroughly enjoyed getting away from it all!

Amazing hospitality and communication from the owner, beautiful location, cozy and peaceful cottage

I am living in Tennessee, while my girlfriend is currently living in Washington. We were trying to find creative ways to spend time together when I came up to visit recently. After deciding on a weekend getaway, the search began for a cabin/cottage in just the right area. Eventually, we discovered the Scuba Shack and, (maybe mostly because my girlfriend was very excited about the hot tub!) decided it fit the bill. Jonathan was immediately very communicative and friendly and made us feel like we had certainly made a good decision. When we arrived, after nearly boarding the wrong ferry and winding up in Nanaimo, we were greeted by a welcome card from Jonathan and his wife and an absolutely beautiful cottage. The location is borderline-indescribably beautiful. Thanks to suggestions from Jonathan's several travel guides, and tips from the locals, my partner and I explored what we discovered to be one of the most breathtakingly gorgeous areas we had ever been to. I cannot emphasize this enough, THIS AREA IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. We also ate some magnificent cuisine, and drank some delicious local brews. Occasionally, we just relaxed in the hot tub and enjoyed each other's company. This trip was one we will never forget. My girlfriend and I will without question be returning to the Scuba Shack in the future. I cannot praise Jonathan enough for his hospitality and fantastic communication. Any question I had was responded to punctually and respectfully, and my girlfriend and I truly felt at home in the Scuba Shack.

Great place for a family getaway!

Jonathan was an amazing host. The cabin was set up beautifully, and had everything we needed for a family getaway. I especially appareciated the playpen and highchair being provided, and my kids loved having their own personal swimming pool (hot tub). The extra touches were amazing- wonderful espresso machine, well-stocked fire place, movies, board games and welcome card and gift. Jonathan was quick to respond to all our emails and questions. A huge thank you to our host & we will definitely be back.

A delightfully easy place for the highly-sensitive traveller to stay on the lovely Sunshine Coast!

This was a beautifully peaceful place to stay, very thoughtfully well-suited to the needs of visitors with allergies and sensitivities of all kinds. My 13-year-old daughter and I have celiac disease, asthma, and various allergies that make it challenging to eat and sleep away from home. The kitchen here was ideally outfitted for people who need to be making their own meals while on vacation, including a great blender. :). The wonderful laundry room allowed us to use our own detergent-for-the-ludicrously-delicate. The immaculate home was remarkably free of dust or other environmental allergens. We had been wheezing from wildfire smoke for a month and progressively recovered each day we spent here. The pristine air, gorgeous forests, and thriving sea stars were deeply moving. It was also logistically helpful to be so close to the friendly and supportive kayak rentals. In all, it felt like great care had been taken to make a perfect vacation easy and restorative for us. Thank you!!

Perfect place to escape

Sweet & Tranquil

Spent the weekend here for a ladies' trip and it was fantastic. Secluded but not so far away from things that it's too far of a drive. The cabin is perfectly stocked (way better than most places I've experienced - hairdryer, espresso machine w/ coffee, sugar, flour, all small appliances, hand mixer, fire making supplies, lanterns, flashlights, and more) with anything we could possible need to make our stay super comfortable. A dip in the hot tub was the perfect end to a rainy West Coast day.

A perfect getaway !!!

Our stay could not have been better. The property is even nicer than it looks in the listing. The only downside was leaving! The decor and ambiance were lovely. The cottage was spotless and equipped with everything we could have needed. The owner's thoughtful attention to detail was very evident. Umbrellas in a stand at the door, flashlights hanging on the back of bedroom doors, lanterns everywhere, an amazingly well appointed kitchen, comfortable seating inside and on all of the three (!) decks. The beds were very comfortable, with lovely fresh linens. In particular, I appreciated Jonathan's consideration of my chemical sensitivities. Strong scents from cleaning products and laundry detergents make me feel unwell. Jonathan was wonderfully considerate and accomodating, which made for an absolutely wonderful stay for me. The customer service we received could not have been any better. I would absolutely recommend this property.
