The absolutely coolest place I’ve ever stayed. It’s like staying a night in a house museum, but with the comfiest and cleanest modern bed linens. Can’t wait to come back!
The entire 4 days was like exploring a museum with private access. Words can't describe the experience.. It is filled with antiques and things that go bump in the night. We discovered a new door camouflaged in the walls every day.
I can’t even begin to explain the feelings when I first walked in. It was like stepping back in time. I fell in love. Thank you so much for keeping this house alive. Wonderful stay and will definitely be back.
This house takes you back in time. Looking out the windows into the nature reserve really gives you an idea of what life was like 100s of years ago - but with HVAC, heat, and electricity! We felt like we had snuck into a museum. Exploring was so much fun. This really tied in with researching our Puritan ancestors and was a great experience. Really loved it. Thank you so much to the owners for letting people rent this house.
We had the perfect vacation in this in this house! It was surprisingly very comfortable with AC and a fully functioning kitchen. We had someone give us a private historical tour of the house as recommended by the host and it took our stay to the NEXT LEVEL! Couldn’t recommend staying here more - hope to go back some day with my family to share the experience with them too!
We enjoyed our few days at this historic home! My 8 year old loved the outdoor play area, and the location and proximity to 128 was perfect! The neighborhood was very quiet, and the beds comfortable. Thank you for the experience!
I don’t know how to begin! The property is everything you see in the pictures, a beautiful authentic step back in time. The kitchen was a dream to work in and everything we could need was there. The beds were fantastic and waking up to those views was so peace filled. The grounds are lovely and a kid’s dream, lots of things to explore. We had a child of 5 years with us, and on that, I would say use your judgment. She’s very kind to furniture and special things. Regardless, we bought damage protection which was very reasonable. Tall folks will need to watch their heads in doorways, and prepare to get turned around in all those rooms and spaces at first. Also, take care to watch for ticks & such outside as with anywhere else in the Northeast. The location was perfect for us. Gloucester is beautiful. It was 10 minutes to the whale watch, and Salem & Danvers were not far down the road. There were so many things to see and do that we found ourselves having to really budget our time. Always, the family couldn’t wait to get back to the best thing, our place, Haskell House! The owner was incredible, responsive and truly caring. Her input was priceless. She clearly has a deep love for this place and it shows. I don’t know what it takes to care for this property the way she does, but whatever magic that is she has it. If we ever do get back up that way, there’s no other place for us. She’s literally spoiled us for any other place.
We had a fantastic stay at the Haskell House this weekend. The beds are very comfortable and there are plush bath sheets (not just towels), which I personally appreciate.
Natalie is a helpful, kind and very responsive host. Add on to that the history of the home - it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to step back in time and learn about the history of the family who built the house and lived there.
The photos are very accurate - there are (faux) candles to use as lighting and to add even more authenticity to the experience. The home is filled with period antiques and has been sensitively and tastefully restored, with all the modern conveniences.
Anyone visiting should note that there are a lot of low light areas in this historic home - the flashlights on arrival aren't for a power outage. The upstairs bedrooms are also only accessible via a steep staircase and one of the bedrooms only has bathroom access through the other second floor bedroom or on the first floor. Not everyone will want to navigate this in the middle of the night, although it didn’t bother us.
The other thing I wish I’d known before visiting is that there are tours offered and they are discounted for guests - be sure to check out the website for details (we will hopefully get to do this next time).
I’m still trying to acclimate to the 21st century again - thank you so much for a truly special weekend and for sharing your home and family history. We hope to be back in the near future!
