About this property

Jan. & Feb. Discounted: Bear Forest! 2bd/2ba cabin!

Location, Location, Location!! Near downtown Gatlinburg!

Cozy, two bd/two ba log cabin, jetted indoor tub and cathedral ceiling! Views of the woods all around!

Don't delay booking your vacation! Sorry...ABSOLUTELY NO last minute reservations and rates are NOT negotiable! (Note: Payment must be received two weeks before your arrival date.)

From hiking trails to the Glades Arts and Crafts Community to downtown Gatlinburg to the ONLY grocery store in Gatlinburg to Roaring Fork Motor Trail to Dollywood to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park--this cabin is in the PERFECT location.

Great hiking out of Greenbriar just six miles east (away from the downtown traffic); the Glades is less than three miles (again east); downtown Gatlinburg is just over one mile away (west); Food Lion--the only grocery store in Gatlinburg--is about two miles east; Roaring Fork Motor Trail is within walking distance; Dollywood Family Theme Park is 8.5 miles north; and if you want to reach the MAIN entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park it is just 2.5 miles west/southwest.

Bear Forest is our second home--and not surprisingly--has a bear theme inside decor...including original watercolor paintings and photos of bears by local artists. And, the cabin gets its name by the fact that bears appear around the cabin frequently. Not dangerous--just treat them with respect--watch from a distance, admire and enjoy!

Directions in a Nutshell:

Light #3 Gatlinburg: Turn onto E. Parkway/Highway 321/TN 73;
Roaring Fork Motor Trail (Light #1A): Turn right onto;
Loop Road: Turn right onto;
Hilltop Road: Straight (Loop veers right);
Foothills Drive: Straight (Hilltop veers left);
Abrams Falls Way: Go PAST the 'Abrams Falls' Street sign (bearing left) and then at the end of Foothills bear right onto Abrams Falls Way;
Bear Forest: Third cabin on the left on Abrams Falls Way.
Note: Abrams Falls Way is a loop, so it can be accessed two ways off of Foothills Drive. We are suggesting the SECOND right off of Foothills onto Abrams Falls.

Cozy Christmas!

The cabin was lovely. It felt like home when we walked in the door. It was so nice to come back to a nice, cozy and warm place after our long days of activities. Would highly recommend this cabin to anyone who wants to be away from the hustle and bustle but still close to anything you want to do.

Cute cabin for 2 couples

The cabin is nice, steep driveway. Hot water needs turned up and extra blanket on each bed would be nice. We had a good time in TN and this was a nice place to relax between touristy stuff.

Lovely and Cozy

This has been a great stay! It is very cozy and warm feeling indoors. Rustic and offers a mountainous feeling. The grave driveway does present some challenges for compact vehicles but it was not impassable. Very close to the Gatlinburg central area. I kind of wish that we saw black bears, but, unfortunately, there were none at this time maybe because they are already hibernating. We never used the place to its full potential since we were only there for a few days, but it does need some kitchen supplies. If you stay in the bottom bedroom, you can hear everything that's happening upstairs. I am a light sleeper so this was significant. Otherwise, I would come back here again. Such a quaint place.

Absolute best place!

Absolutely a wonderful place to stay! Very clean, beds very comfortable/clean. Had everything we needed to make our stay worry free! Would consider staying in the near future! Did not see any bears at the cabin, but we did see some in the surrounding area!

*Bears* Lock your car and leave no food inside!

The hubs and I flew to Nashville from Oregon to do a BBQ and Blues road trip to New Orleans and booked this stay to meet up with family from Tennessee. The property was just as described and the homeowners were super responsive. We learned on day 1 that the neighbors across the street came outside to find 3 bears inside their suburban. They had been unloading their car and left it unlocked. No damage was done but they were able to open the doors. Lots of bear sightings and we had 3 of our own. Great spot and if we lived closer we would be back!

Listing left out key information

The listing doesn't mention 2 important aspects, 1. the steep, geaveled, uneaven driveway. Having a trailer with a motorcycle made it extremely difficult, 2. The master bedroom is an open loft. The cabin is in a very convenient location to attractions. However, some repair needs to be done on minor items in the cabin, the dryer handle is completely broken off, the washer leaks and has an odd smell emiting from it, the 1st floor bathroom has missing towel racks, there is insulation coming up from the vent in that bathroom as well. A good dusting is needed .

Bears Galore

What a great stay! Greeted the first day by 2 bears! We saw bears every day we were there! The bear even hopped onto the back porch! There were also lightning bugs which I had never seen and wanted to really bad! If you are coming to the area for the bears, this is the place! Short 15 minute drive to Pigeon Forge. Would definitely stay here again!

Close to everything but quiet.

The cabin had everything we needed - including comfortable beds! The jacuzzi tub was a nice bonus after hiking, too. The place could use a deep cleaning - I think we were the first guests in a while based on dust and cobwebs. Overall we had a good experience and it was nice to be close to the park, which was the reason for our stay. Plenty to do close by.

About the host

Hosted by Larry Strout

Host profile image
We (Larry Strout and Penny Rodrique) acquired Bear Forest in June of 2009. Larry is a university professor and Penny is a retired robotics instructor at a middle school.

We, and our daughter, Nicole, started visiting the Smokies in 1995 and returned frequently mainly to HIKE! We love hiking! We've been to the summit of Mount LeConte more times than you can count!

Bear Forest is really a summer getaway location and a Christmas/New Year's retreat (and soon to be summer retirement home) that we have now decided to share with you.

There are two comments people make after staying at our cabin--'We could live there!' and 'We didn't want to leave!'

Why they chose this property

Perfect spot for our needs. Hiking, arts and crafts, downtown Gatlinburg, and the grocery store are all close (along with great hiking trails) and the cabin brings us peace and quiet.

What makes this property unique

Look out the window at dawn or at dusk and you might see bears, deer, wild turkeys, or other wildlife.
