Beautiful property with heart-shaped pond.

George's property and cabin are so unique. George built it himself and the attention to detail is remarkable. This suited our needs for a fishing and hiking escape from the city. We had plenty of room and George was really easy to communicate with.

Had a great weekend spending time at this wonderful cabin. Skied at Plattekill Mountain and adventures in Margaretville. Wood stove was great to hang around on a cold and snowy weekend.

Quiet and Peace

I went to George’s log cabin to write and spend some time alone. It was perfect and just as peaceful as I had hoped it would be. The bonus was a fabulous Black Cat that lived outside and when I went out on the porch to enjoy the scenery from that place, BC was there to keep me company. It was a delightful time in the country. Just what I needed.

Beautiful property! Secluded place to get away from the city vibe.

This is a wonderful place to stay. It is a beautiful log cabin located away from the city and lights. At night it is pitch dark making it the best place for star gazing. The house of cozy and beautiful. Using the wood stove was an amazing experience and kept the house warm and cozy. The host was really friendly and helpful with any questions we had through text and call whenever needed. There is a huge pond right in front on the house with plenty open space for the pet to roam around and play. I would definitely recommend staying here if you are looking for a secluded place to getaway from the city for the weekend or even longer.

Enjoy the Peace of Rustic Living

We enjoyed our stay at the peaceful and rustic Heart of Pine Cabin which has a fantastic pond and a cute little creek just a short hike away. The cabin sits in a quiet valley, and we enjoyed the sounds of the water and the neighbor’s farm animals throughout the day. It was great for a quiet family get away. Our host George lives there, so this cabin has all the delightful quirks of a lived-in home. He met us when we arrived to explain how to handle the compost and explain the light switches and little quirks. Black Cat (BC) is a most excellent coffee companion in the mornings and will demonstrate how to kick back & relax on the porch. A word of caution: first for those with dust mite allergies; this is a country home and a log cabin which means it holds dust more than a traditional modern construction house would, so plan on sweeping & dusting regularly during your stay and take your allergy meds. George was very generous with the cleaning supplies, and this made the morning & evening routines easy. We enjoyed our stay and hope to make this a yearly get away!

Wonderful stay

George was a phenomenal host. I enjoyed talking with George so much we became friends. The cabin was amazing, it showed that it was built with love and attention to detail. We really enjoyed fishing in the heart shaped pond and hanging out with BC the ultra affectionate outdoor cat. I really enjoyed the music themed décor and the fact that George is an accomplished musician. Also the recommended Heartbreak Hotel had a very friendly staff that made you feel welcome and the food there was terrific. Additionally the community pool at Mine Kill SP was an added bonus.

Beautiful Log Cabin

George is the perfect host. He provided the right amount of information and left us to enjoy his beautiful cabin. We could not have had a better experience. Plus we got to interact with a friendly cat that lives outside the cabin. This made our time there even better.

Weekend stay for parents weekend at SUNY Cobleskill

Great cabin and property 25 minutes from SUNY Cobleskill. The owner has everything you need in this well stocked cabin for a getaway. The wood-burning stove kept the cabin nice and warm on the cool evenings. There is well stocked library with books and games that we enjoyed. TV and internet service that our kids enjoyed. My son brought his fishing pole and caught largemouth bass in the pond. We didn’t swim in the pond as it was a little chilly but our dog enjoyed it. Horseshoe cafe for breakfast and Heartbreak hotel for dinner and drinks were down the road. Apple farms, produce farms, dairy farms, and Howe Caverns are all a short car ride away. The fall foliage of the surrounding mountains were an added bonus while sitting on the front porch watching the kids and dog play.

A Relaxing Connection to Nature

The best experience of relaxation and connection to nature we've ever had. The location has electricity and wifi but cell reception is iffy. Perfect for those wishing to disconnect. Remember, this is a home where people live and not a secondary income property with hotel ammenities and a management company. Those looking for and expecting a memorable rustic experience will be thrilled. A 3 bdrm log cabin: 1st floor front porch facing private stream fed pond, great room kitchen/dining/living combo with 2 sofas, a dining table big enough to seat 12 and a wood stove, small single bdrm, full bathroom with stacking washer/dryer, 2nd floor loft with TV (prime and netflix) and full futon and small sofa, half bath, full bdrm with pond facing balcony, and small full bdrm. Plumbing, water pressure, and flushing work very well. This home had hard well water so there is a vague smell and taste that disappears eventually. They have an easy to fill drinking water cooler for that purpose. After a brief wait the natural mineral water tastes great. Kitchen includes gas stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher (we did not use). Stove and oven cook well- we made pancakes, stir fry, and lasagna. The property is off a rural road mostly hidden from neighbors. Only one small place can you "see" the occasional car, but that is across the property far from the home. Very quiet with only the occasional truck. There is a wooded babbling brook to the north of the property (access trail behind wood working shed) and a lovely heart shaped pond in the center of the property. Despite the abundance of water, we had no mosquitoes (late Sept). The pond is safe for dipping feet or swimming in warmer weather (too dark to see bottom). We saw many salamanders in the area (proof of clean environment). We also saw many birds and deer. Front porch is perfect for lounging. There are also lounger seats, Adirondack chairs, a picnic table, and a fire pit across the pond great for roasting marshmallows. The celebrity here is the working outdoor cat named BC. Healthy, friendly, clean, and always up for pets when you sit outside. Part of staying here is feeding the cat twice a day. But really it is a pleasure. BC is a love, and we spent hours cuddling the cat. Other reasonable expectations are to properly sort the trash, recycling, and composting and to not put grease or non-septic safe items down the drains. Fantastic retreat, romantic getaway, and family fun adventure.

Wedding at Blenheim Hill Farm

We had a great stay at the Heart of the Pines. The property was just wonderful, and the rustic vibe we appreciate. Great proximity to Blenheim Hill Farm wedding venue- you could almost walk! Quaint villages of Stamford and Jefferson are nearby. Our host was kind and we appreciated the good communication. BC, the cat was our lil buddy (she stays outside) as well as being super friendly and cute. We were fortunate to catch a meteor shower one of the nights, the sky was so clear, no city lights. I would stay again! Thanks so much!

Perfect getaway

We had such a wonderful time at the cabin. I loved having all the amenities of home but still have the look and feel of a true log cabin. Wifi was excellent so my husband had no issues being able to work. The location is wonderful and waking up nestled in the mountains was fantastic. Excellent hiking in the area and a lot of great food. My 12 and 15 year old loved ittoo. We found some great swimming spots, and enjoyed fishing, hiking, and cave exploration. Highly recommend staying here! Already thinking about how beatiful winter would be here.

REAL log cabin. Perfect Retreat. GREAT HOST. LOVED!!!

We stayed in this beautiful authentic REAL log cabin in The Catskills. The pictures really do not do it justice so please understand this when booking and read my review here... For example It looks smaller from pictures but it is quite large. When you walk in there are 2 living room areas with 2 beautiful blue velvet couches, a nice size kitchen with VERY long handmaid wooden table that comfortably seats 2 families, big handmaid stair case leading up to a large master bedroom, smaller 2nd bedroom (fits 2nd couple or kids just fine), kid futon corner (that my 5 year old son and his friend loved sleeping), 2 bathrooms (one smaller upstairs and large bath with tub/shower downstairs) Everything about the place screams charm and love, hence the heart theme throughout the cabin: heart shaped pond, hearts cut out on upper railing and in woodwork throughout property. Everything you see has been hand made or hand carved. Really cool place. if you are looking for a unique experience stay here! Some other great things about the property: private balcony to master bedroom (was so peaceful to sit in mornings and have coffee watching birds and mountains), TV area kids loved to play games or watch show, lots of board games / cards, tons of interesting books, friendly farm cat to greet you (does not go inside!) wood stove for heating the cabin like in the olden days :). *PLEASE NOTE* Make sure you have George give you all the smokey the bear info on proper stove care and handling as you rally don't want to burn down his beautiful dream log home :) He's a really cool guy and is very friendly / communicative and will make you feel right at home. We even got drinks with him one night at a local place. He will help you with any recommendations you might need. George's log home is like no other place I have ever stayed and we will definitely book in the future.

Paradise in the woods

Stayed at Hearts of Pine with my wife and two young girls for their introduction to skiing and i couldn't be happier with the experience. The cabin is spectacular (the pictures do not do it justice). Such a scenic locale with such a rustic feel but with modern amenities. Location was perfect with 4 mountains to ski within an hour or less. Also took a day trip to Howe Caverns which is 40 minutes or so away and that was great as well. The cabin was very clean and George is great. Any time i had a question, he responded very quickly. But while the skiing was great, the real treat was just being at this cabin. Perfect place to get away from the bustle of everyday life. We went in February, and i cannot wait to go back during the summer to do some hiking in some of the numerous state and local parks nearby. My review will not do justice to the memories that were created here and I highly recommend this property to anyone who loves the woods. And I have to mention "BC" (Black Cat), who lives under the porch. The sweetest, nicest cat i have ever met. She stole my daughters hearts and we will be back to see her again. Overall, I highly recommend this special piece of upstate New York.

Wonderful Long Weekend

George's cabin is exactly what we needed. After all the ups and downs of the pandemic we needed a place to destress before I started a new job. The cabin and property are beautiful, as other have stated the pictures do not do it justice. We had a wonderful time being unplugged from the world and relaxed. The cabin is beautiful and clean with all of the needed amenities. We barely left the property because we enjoyed swimming, fishing, or just lounging on the outdoor furniture. George's cat BC is adorable, she sat on my lap all night while we had a bonfire. I highly recommend his cabin and hope to return. On our way home we went for a hike at Mine Kills Falls, it was very enjoyable and only a few miles away. Thanks George!

Snowy hideaway in upstate NY

I rented the cabin for the weekend to get away with my family. We really enjoyed our stay. It was at the height of the winter snow cover. We got out and did some snowshoeing. There was good takeout food only 15 minutes away. The wood-burning stove was a treat. The owner was very hospitable. We were given a tour of the house at check-in. Highly recommended.

Nice safe family get away during COVID-19

We had a great time at the cabin. There was fresh fruit all around the cabin kitchen. The pond was a great source of fun as we fished and our puppy had fun splashing around the outside. We had absolutely no issues. George was very helpful to navigate us to different activities and hiking spots. Overall George answered any questions we had with a positive attitude! We would highly recommend this cabin as a weekend or week long getaway!

My girlfriend and I are freelance artists. I am a musician and she is a writer. We often travel for work. The rental of the cabin is our supplemental income. We hope you enjoy it.

Why they chose this property

We built this cabin and every detail, down to the custom bookshelves, was handcrafted. The perfect distance away from NYC, and situated near enough to local villages for convenience items, but remote enough in the woods as to be ideal. Also the stream and swimming pond on our land are a big plus.

What makes this property unique

Privacy, the bucolic setting, the pond, living in nature, our land, the frogs at dusk in springtime, cross country skiing or hiking trails.. the list is too long...
