Beautiful cottage with its own boat dock and mooring – located towards the quiet end of the island and close to the island beach. This cottage has 1 bedroom with a queen size bed and a sleeping loft which has 2 - full size beds. The kitchen has all new appliances. Located off to the side of the kitchen area is a set of French doors that will take you out onto a secluded deck with awning and a breathtaking view of the ocean and spectacular sunsets at night. The bathroom has been newly updated to include a walk-in shower stall and a washer/dryer unit. The main part of the house is open with dining area and a gorgeous seating area where you can kick off your shoes and enjoy the view or watch a little TV. The yard has been beautifully fenced off and has a stone patio with fire pit and Adirondack chairs overlooking “Diamond Passage’”. This property also has its own 30ft private dock where you can sit and relax or play and swim. There is hourly ferry service to and from the island that will accommodate your vehicle if you decide you need one. Once you arrive on the island it is a whole new way to enjoy life such as having your own lobster bake with fresh Maine lobsters, biking, swimming, kayaking, hiking, or just take a walk around the island. There is shopping in the unique island shops, stop for an ice cream or go to dinner at one of the fine restaurants the island has to offer or hop the ferry back to the mainland and experience all that the Old Port area of Portland has to offer. This is the perfect spot to relax and find yourself again. Please note, we do have a week minimum stay policy.

This Place Is Magical

We couldn't have had a better time. Perfect, simple waterfront cottage. We sat on the partially enclosed deck almost all the time, gazing at Great Diamond Island and all the boats going by. And it is located in the best part of the island -- quiet, and far from the madding crowd of "downtown." I can't recommend this heartily enough. Thank you, Tim and Jen!

Peaks Island Cottage

Beautiful location and a well kept , well stocked home. One of the prime locations on the Island. We enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching all the activity in the water, and evening fires on the patio in the side yard. Highly recommend the Cottage.

Best Waterfront House Yet!

We rented the cottage for our son's wedding on Peaks Island, and it met and surpassed all of our expectations. I loved the amenities, the dock, porch, and loft. The house was supplied well including spices. I would highly recommend this cottage and hope to rent it in the future.

A special place -- the quintessential Maine experience.

The week flew by ....the never-ending boat/ferry parade and spectacular sunsets make a wonderful backdrop for a Peaks Island vacation in this charming cottage. If you have a boat ... The dock is first class with deep-water access except at the lowest ebb tide. Casco Bay is a boater's paradise.

One of our best vacations!

We sincerely enjoyed our stay on Peaks Island at this water front property! The cottage is very nice, inside and out. Tim takes good care of it, and makes sure he had done everything he could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. I was very surprised at the items that he had stocked into the cottage. We liked the porch, the kitchen/bath/bedroom, the yard and fire-pit, the dock, everything about the property was great. The dock was my favorite part. Our vacation week was very hot temperatures up well into the 90s. But if you were hanging at the dock, the breezes off the water looking into the sun, you were very comfortable. The temps are probably 10-15 degrees less on the dock. The dock faces north west, so there is always Island breezes on the dock. And if I did start to heat up, I just jumped into the water for a cool down. And there is occasional Ferry traffic passing by out in the channel. As for the Island itself, there is quite a bit more to this island than just the shore line. We rented a golf cart for one day to tour the island, which I strongly suggest. Our initial interest in staying at this property started with the boat dock. We did not bring a vehicle across on the Ferry, but instead transported all our vacation items with our boat. We occasionally used the bicycles that are stored at the cottage to go to town (it's about 1.4 miles from the cottage to the Ferry station), but other than that, we used our boat to explore the many restaurants within the Casco Bay area. The island has three restaurants, which we had tried all three. We also visited Diamond Cove twice (Diamond's Edge Restaurant and the Inn at Diamond Cove), Dolphins on Harpswell, and Cook's on Bailey Island (~1.5 hours by car, but only took us 20 minutes by boat). As well as the DiMillo's floating restaurant in Portland and the Saltwater Grill in South Portland (all accessible by boat). We had a great time!

Good Times on Peaks Island!

What a beautiful location! The house is perfectly located in a quiet and scenic part of the island. Very low key and friendly people, too. We were lucky to gather here with our 2 sons for a quick family re charge, from our busy professional schedules. We had a nice dinner at the Inn, and also, enjoyed going into Portland for eateries, Sonny's, Empire, and Becky's diner... and The Portland Museum of Art. I would suggest to pay close attention to the ferry schedules, if coming by car, as you have to line up, in the car lane, well in advance of your scheduled passage, because of limited capacity for the cars. Not too bad of a situation, off season. I would caution you on the loft sleeping area, as the access is quite steep, up and down. I would suggest you to bring sheets and towels, for easy departure at the end of your stay. The bikes did need some attention, so, bring bikes, because, it is an ideal place for riding.

Simply... perfect!

Peaks Island is delightful enough... but this cottage is icing on the cake (five stars only because there aren't more). Our original plans included the possibility of some side-trips to the mainland but once we settled into the rhythm of Peaks Island - and this cottage in particular - that idea quickly faded. Bring a few good reads, some of your favorite wines/snacks, bikes and/or running shoes, (a laptop if you can't be without it), and plan to relax. This cottage and its spectacular setting do all the rest. (Just a heads-up if you are thinking about taking a car back-and-forth to the mainland DURING your stay: be sure to consider the ferry schedule. The weekday PM car-ferry times back to PI in the OFF-season are more limited than passenger-only times. Walking shoes and a backpack or market bag are all you really need to spend the day in Portland. If you must.) We did eat at two island restaurants - both of them were enjoyable and provided nice opportunities to meet some Peak's Islanders and other mid-September visitors. We are already thinking about finding time return to this wonderful cottage. As the owner says, it is "a slice of heaven". Thank you, Tim, for sharing it.

We look forward to returning to Peaks Island

This was one of those rare experiences that greatly exceeded our expectations. The house was very clean and comfortable, easily accommodating two adults and two pre-teens. We thoroughly enjoyed the private dock and deck overlooking the bay. The grill was a nice touch and allowed us to avoid having to go to the mainland for dinner. (The restaurants on Peaks Island - with the exception of Milly's Skillet - were not spectacular.) We highly recommend this house to anyone looking to stay on Peaks Island and look forward to our return.

Idyllic week on peaks

i was searching for a place to spend a week with my twenty something son that would be perfect for us both, and this cottage did not let us down! The location just out of town was a lovely bike ride away, the dock was perfect for reading (me) and jumping off (him). A perfect spot for two guests (and a dog) with a small beach down the road, friendly neighbors, and a screened deck with views made for morning coffee and evening wine. Loved every minute.

Perfect fall getaway!

I rented Tim's amazing home for my boyfriend's birthday to give us a little R&R after a very busy summer. I couldn't have chosen better! The house is about 1.5 miles from "town" so was very quite and peaceful, but still convenient for going out to dinner, grabbing groceries, and getting to and from the ferry. We enjoyed the porch, dock, and living area for many hours of lounging and reading. The sunsets were particularly beautiful from the dock. The cottage was equipped with anything we needed to cook meals (which we did most of the time!) and a comfy bed very good nights rest. Best of all, it only took us about 2.5 hours to get to the house from Boston, but you felt very far away from everyday life. I would recommend leaving your car in Portland (there are a couple $10 per day lots) and taking advantage for the taxi and bike that Tim so gratefully provides. Can't wait till out next visit!

Perfect spot

Your cottage was the ideal vacation for our family of 4. The boys loved the loft and yard, my husband announced upon arrival that between the dock, yard and porch he was not leaving the cottage he had all he needed! The view was amazing, loved watching all the action on the water, sunsets were fabulous. The cottage was clean, cozy and very comfortable! Thank you we hope to be welcomed back!!

Perfect Maine Island Setting with Incredible View

The Waterfront Cottage is the perfect setting for a Maine Island getaway. The view is quintessential Coastal Maine- looking toward Little and Great Diamond Islands- with the charm of boats passing by and the sunsets. The cottage has all the amenities you need to relax on Peaks Island- full kitchen, charming living and dining space, comfortable beds, washer and dryer and covered outdoor deck overlooking Casco Bay. EVERYTHING YOU NEED! The outdoor patio is perfect for a fire in the chiminea during sunsets and the dock is perfect for relaxing in the sun with a book. Great island escape within a quick bike ride from the ferry to Portland! This was our second year staying here- we highly recommend it!

Perfect Place

Our family have stayed in a number of vacation rentals on Peaks Island and this one is the best - hands down. The photos don't do it justice. I love to sit and read and stare at the water and this lovely home provided a number of different ways for me to do just that - a sheltered deck off the kitchen, a hammock or lounge chairs in the side yard, or, the day it rained, comfy chairs and a rocker in the living room area. We didn't take advantage of the fire pit, but it's on my list for next time. I did use the Adirondack chairs around the fire pit as a reading area, though. The island is perfect for biking or walking and between the store and the restaurants down front, you don't need a thing. And don't forget about the history - WWII bunkers and Civil War connections. Take one of the tours of the island by golf cart - it's well worth it. We've been going to Peaks Island for a week's vacation for 7 years and my goal is to make it a two-week vacation one of these years. I highly recommend Peaks Island in general and this cottage in particular.

Texans' Take

My wife and I are in very stressful careers as journalists who work under constant deadlines. Within two days of arriving at this quaint New England cottage with its sloping, shaded lawn looking over Diamond Pass, we found ourselves fast asleep napping on a hammock. Now that is a vacation! My connection with and love for Coastal Maine dates back 40 years, and I really wanted our 15-year-old son to experience Maine at its quiet best. But as we traveled up from Texas, I worried that New England island life might be a bore for him. I worried needlessly. He loved it! When you think boat dock, boating comes to mind. But it's really about the swimming and enjoying the cool breezes coming off the waters of Casco Bay. The cottage was a perfect size for the three of us, yet we had room to entertain old friends. Underneath we found a large pot for boiling lobsters with a gas burner to heat that pot in the yard. Great for lobster "boils." BIke rentals on the island make the experience all the more quiet and quaint. Warning: Because linens are provided and the property owner rightfully asks that you wash all linens and towels before you leave, you probably want a later departure time on the day you are leaving. But as I told the property owner on the telephone, I very much hope to return ... and soon! What a delightful stay in a delightful cottage on a delightful island!

Don and Marie

This was just perfect for us. The cottage is comfortable and cozy. The views are breathtaking. The dock is perfect, especially if you have a boat. Best to bring a car over on the ferry or rent a golf cart to get around the island. There is plenty to do on the island and to do in Porlland withing walking distance of the ferry which runs about every hour for the twenty minute ride in town. I am from Portland ME and very familiar with Peaks Island and must say there are no better places on the island to stay if you are looking for a quiet getaway. The cottage has everything you need and Bobby Hannigan will fix you up with all the food you need at the island grocery store. Tim the owner is great. He even left us a few beers in the fridge.

Excellent Rental

This is a very well maintained and cute cottage on Peaks. It had all of the necessary items that you need when you are away from home. Fantastics views and beautiful sunsets can be seen from the deck. There is a very nice dock for your boat and a fire pit to relax around at night. Overall a wonderful place!

Perfect Getaway!

My husband and I just returned from our Maine honeymoon and we are thrilled that we had the opportunity to stay in this wonderful cottage. The ower & his assistant were terrific, the accommodations were perfect and it was all we could do not to chain ourselves to the front porch in protest of having to leave. Firstly, the photos included here do not do this charming cottage justice. The wood paneled walls make this home warm and cozy. The rear deck offers some outstanding views of Casco Bay and the sunset. With many windows throughout, its bright, cheerful and simply amazing. We are already saving up for a trip next year. While we did not take advantage of the boat dock as much as we had planned due to the cooler temperatures, it would be a wonderful option in the summertime for swimming, fishing or if you have the means boating. Peaks Island itself, is lovely and quaint. There's little action going on there, with only three restaurants/bars and a small (but very well stocked) market, ice cream shop and a small cafe for breakfast, all near the ferry terminal. So if your looking for a relaxing getaway, this is definitely the place. The ferry runs hourly for most of the day so if you need a little action during your stay, its a short ferry trip to town. Most of the locals get around using golf carts or small electric cars and make weekly or monthly trips to the mainland to stock up on supplies not readily available on the island. They are super friendly and were very helpful to a couple of New Yorkers. Prior to our arrival we stopped at Shaw's supermarket in Portland to purchase items we thought we would need for the trip, since I was unaware of how well stocked Hannigan's market was. I shouldn't have bothered. The selection was great. Apparently the Hannigan's slogan is "If we don't have it, you don't need it" The meat counter, while limited in comparison to big chains, carries great quality meats... beautiful steaks, freshly ground beef and chicken. I'm almost sorry we bought meat in town. Note: The Casco Bay Ferry service, while on time and very handy, is a little wonky. Their website information (pricing and schedule) is not entirely accurate, so I suggest calling ahead before arrival. It is only by some miracle that we scored a car ferry when we arrived because according to the schedule I picked up, we had missed the last car ferry by an hour.
