We made a last-minute decision to take a leaf-peeping trip to the Haywood County and surrounding areas. We were so glad, for many reasons, that we chose Penland Retreat as our home-base. Tastefully renovated and in a quiet small-town neighborhood, the house had plenty of room for the 2-of-us and our lab. It was meticulously clean. The king bed was especially comfy and we appreciated the soft, spotless linens. When traveling, we choose to make most of our meals at the rental home. Cooking at Penland Retreat was a joy. The kitchen was bright and spacious – stocked with high-quality/like-new cookware, utensils, etc. – everything we could possibly have wanted. The hot tub was a nice option and the pictures don’t adequately capture how private and pleasant this area is.
Best-of-all for us was the awesome access to everything in the area. We toured Winchester Creek (Alpaca and miniatures) Farm in Waynesville; took two breathtakingly beautiful rides on the Blue Ridge Parkway; hiked 2 segments of the Mountain to Sea Trail; and planned our return drive home via the beyond-description Pisgah National Forest Scenic byway. Although we didn’t include it on this trip, Asheville is less than 30 minutes away.
We greatly appreciated Marcus, (a VRBO-designated Premier Host); we would highly recommend this property; and will definitely look forward to a return stay in the future.
