The space
We want everything to be perfect for you! This was a private residence until recently, so it has every possible amenity. This is a home designed for peace and relaxation. We have hosted yoga retreats, family reunions, and meditation retreats. The master bathroom has a large tub and separate shower and sauna. There is a spa room for yoga and massage. Plan ahead and schedule massage with our fabulous local masseuse.
Don't feel like cooking? Want to learn to cook? With pre-planning, the owner of nearby bed & breakfast can cater all (or some) of your meals and can also offer cooking lessons on site! Delicious cooking at a reasonable price. I know, she catered our wedding!
We have two kayaks to share. You can bring your own sailboat (good mooring location just in front of house). You must get prior permission to bring any motorized vessel. We have to check to be certain your craft can be kept safe. If agreed upon it will be at your own risk and there will be an extra fee.

You may enjoy the entire house plus 26 acres of waterfront property. There is a long sandy beach at low tide. There is a nature walk thru the forest with stunning water views. The dock is great for crabbing and sometimes fishing. This part of the river is perfect for sailing & swimming most summer days. There is a large open field for kite flying, frisbee or touch football.
Things have become somewhat unpredictable over the last 10 years. Sometimes there is a goose nesting on the osprey nest!! We have seen the lowest AND the highest tides of the past 50 yrs….. in the last two years! There used to be a way to predict the season of the jelly fish based on water temperatures….. now, it is totally unpredictable. One year, they just never came! One perk of all this changeable weather is we see dolphins most days in summer now.
Other things to note
CORONA VIRUS UPDATE: We follow guidelines set by the Governor of Virginia. We have added extra hospital grade cleaning products. All doorknobs, faucets, light switches etc will be wiped down between guests. PLEASE CANCEL YOUR TRIP IF ANYONE IN YOUR GROUP HAS COUGH OR FEVER OR IF YOU HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO A PERSON WITH COVID.
The local Food Lion offers online orders with parking lot pick-up.
The beauty and the respite offered by our home is a constant. However, please be aware that the natural beauty is due to nature and, as such, is variable. At low tide, there is usually a nice beach but sometimes even low tide isn’t low enough. Most days the breeze off the water means no AC needed, but sometimes it is crazy hot. Sometimes we don’t see dolphins for days but other days they seem to be everywhere! Sometimes the wind blows so hard the water becomes murky, others it is crystal clear and you can collect shells while wading. Sometimes, but thankfully rarely, the wind blows from an odd direction and the smell from omega 3 factory visits.
In springtime, the osprey migrate back home to us to have their babies. There are a few weeks of spectacular air battles as they scrap with the non-migrating bald eagles over who’s in charge ( the osprey always win). In autumn, the bald eagles resume their place as masters of the river.
The changing climate has made many things unpredictable. For example, during Summers 2017 & 2018 there were NO jelly fish ALL summer. Summer 2019 there were tons in late July & August.
Sometimes we have hurricanes. It’s nature.
