The good, the bad, and the ugly
The good: very lovely view into the hollow behind the cottage. Five-minute walk to the City Beach. Trails through the woods right behind the cottage. Five bedrooms. Decent beds, lots of beach toys and kitchen supplies. Dog-friendly cottage and neighborhood. Air conditioning. Nice fire pit. Washer and dryer and laundry soap provided. Dishwasher. Materials for s’mores kindly provided by owner. Lots of DVD’s.
The bad: Pricey rental. Only two parking spaces though the cottage sleeps 13. Slow toilet upstairs. Dark living room at night—one feeble ceiling light and one low-watt floor lamp for a very large room. No good outdoor eating area—just grungy picnic tables in the undergrowth in the yard. Upstairs deck is full of sticks and leaves, railing looks rotten in places and has large gaps (I wouldn’t let kids up there) Shaky deck furniture. A lot of chipped/peeling paint.
The ugly: can’t close the front door very well, only the screen. Doorknob falls off. A ceiling light fixture fell out of the ceiling while we were there and was hanging by the wiring; we contacted the owner, send a photo, and he said he’d better get someone out to fix it—but no one ever showed up.
You might be on your own if there are problems at the place, which is a concern when you’re paying around $4700 a week.
