About this property

Brun Arche Round Island Private Island 1000 Islands St Lawrence River Clayton NY

A home with history. At 138 years old, Brun Arche carries the character of its past. Expect charm, idiosyncrasies, and a sense of place that modern builds simply cannot replicate.

Brun Arche is more than a place to stay—it’s an immersion into an unhurried way of life, where days unfold to the rhythm of the river and evenings are measured in golden light and quiet conversation. It is, at its heart, a home—not just for those who stay, but for those who embrace its story.

First Floor: A Welcome with Presence
• The Archives Room – Once a study, now a quiet space filled with photographs and stories from generations past.
• The Parlour – A cozy retreat with deep armchairs and a discreet Roku TV for the rare rainy afternoon.
• The Dining Room – Seats 6-8
• The Bar – A former butler’s pantry turned wet bar, the perfect prelude to an evening on the breezeway.
• The Kitchen – Expansive windows overlook the shipping channel, offering a front-row seat to the slow procession of freighters.
• Screened Breezeway Dining – The true heart of the home. Seating for 10+, where breakfast, lunch, and dinner unfold against a backdrop of river views.
• Powder Room – Conveniently tucked away near the kitchen.

Second Floor: Private Quarters with a Sense of History
• Red Room & Blue Room – Twin beds, each with a sink & mirror—simple, timeless, serene.
• Captain’s Quarters – A commanding space with a queen bed, seating area, and sweeping river views. Includes a private bath with a compact shower.
• Cherry Room – Queen bed, a study in understated comfort.
• Main Bath – Clawfoot tub, river views—proof that even routine moments deserve a little grandeur.

Third Floor: A Lofted Hideaway
• The Dorm – A spacious retreat with a full size bed, three twins, and a game table—ideal for nightcaps and card games.
• River Room & The Penthouse – Queen beds with water views.
• Petite Bath – A small but well-placed convenience at the top of the stairs.

The Grounds: An Invitation to Unwind
• The Dock – The perfect perch for swimming, fishing, or simply watching the river unfold.
• The Lawn – Wide, green, and made for leisurely afternoons of bocce ball and sunset cocktails.
• Adirondack Chairs at “The Bay” – Six chairs positioned for the best views of the golden hour.
• Outdoor Heated Shower – Simple pleasure, whether rinsing off after a swim or unwinding under a starlit sky.

Island Traditions & Distinctions
• Frontenac USPS Post Office – The only remaining structure from the once famous Gilded Age New Frontenac Hotel that burned down in 1911. Still a working post office today for island residents with daily mail service.
• The Tennis Court – A short stroll away, lined for both tennis and pickleball.

Howdy! I’m Hattie. Brun Arche cottage has been in my family for over 100 years! I grew up in Pennsylvania during the school year and spent every summer on Round Island since birth. Our family cottage is now in its fourth generation of ownership. The 1000 Islands is a special place to me, and now to my three grown children, spouses, and their children. Our appreciation for the river and island living runs deep, and we cannot wait to share this experience with you! The natural habitat of Round Island is our place to relax and enjoy nature, fishing, swimming, and boating.

Why they chose this property

My ancestors chose this quaint location to experience nature, peace, and the joy of family and friend gatherings. We hope you have the opportunity to experience the same joy in the grand and picturesque Saint Lawrence. The Round Island community and fellow cottage owners are truly one of a kind, making this place even more special.

What makes this property unique

Brun Arche sits at the head of Round Island with views of Clayton, NY, Washington & Calumet Islands, and freighters passing in the shipping channel at all hours, day and night. Round Island’s history dates back to 1878! Follow links or copy/paste links below to read very interesting history!
