Find your retreat in this new (fall 2021 build) luxury guest loft, quietly tucked away one block from SLC's vibrant 9th & 9th culture hub. Easily walk to SLC's best grouping of independent restaurants, coffee shops, bars, bakeries, boutiques, gelato, the Tower Theater (Sundance screenings), groceries, and Liberty Park (running trail, pool, etc). Then relax in our outdoor cedar barrel sauna. Free off street parking. Washer/dryer in unit. 1.5 miles from downtown and the university.
Designed by SLC’s preeminent sustainability architect David Brach, this brand new guest loft--located above a 3-car detached garage--has a vaulted ceiling, three skylights, four huge south facing windows, and a European-style ERV air filtration system. Warm, bright and well-insulated, the loft is stocked for visiting friends and family with Sleep Number PlushComfort pillows and Garnet Hill, Ballard Designs, L.L. Bean and Threshold bedding. The kitchen has granite countertops, an induction stove top, microwave, half-size oven, Bosch compact dishwasher, and is stocked with Tramontina fully-clad stainless steel pots and pans and all cookware and dining essentials.
The primary bedroom has a queen size bed and blackout shades on the oversized window. The ‘hidden’ kids room is off the primary bedroom through a small 5’ 4” x 1’ 5” door (think Harry Potter's closet). The kids room measures 15’ x 5’ with a 7’ maximum low vault ceiling and has two junior beds.
In the common area, the couch converts into a second queen bed with a breathable, cool 3” Isolus Memory Foam topper.
The Almost Heaven 6-person Finnish style traditional cedar sauna is always open to guests 6a-9p (but guests may schedule a time outside of these hours to use it as well).
Google Fiber internet. Starbucks House Blend coffee with your choice of milk or milk-alternative. Extra large hot water heater so showers are always hot.
All solar powered.
Please that there is a potential for noise as the loft is located above our garage, which we sometimes access late at night or early in the morning (as one of us sometimes works night shifts). The noise is a subtle rumble, but may wake light sleepers.
The loft is accessed via a short (100 foot), dead-end alley that serves four apartments in addition to our garage and loft. Free, off street parking is available in the alley in front of our third garage bay under a security light and our alley security camera. Large vehicles (e.g. trucks, Sprinter vans) may prefer to park on the street. The alley is not plowed, so visitors may prefer to park on the street and walk in on days where deep snow is on the forecast.
We live on the property and like to meet our guests upon arrival. Once you’re settled, we’re available to answer questions but otherwise let you have your space and privacy. We are happy to provide suggestions on outdoor activities, local restaurants, etc.
Our neighborhood is known for its walkability, central location, and quiet, historic feel. Most houses are 100 years old. The Smith’s (Kroger) grocery store is an easy 5 minute walk. Whole Foods and Trader Joe's are approximately 20 minutes on foot.
Our location makes this loft a great base camp for skiing, family vacations, business trips, romantic getaways and the Sundance Film Festival.
Centrally located between the University of Utah and downtown (both 1.5 miles away, respectively). Easy freeway access to I-80 and I-15 for trips to the mountains for skiing, hiking, biking, and more. 15 minutes to the airport, 40 minutes to Park City, 45 minutes to Alta, Snowbird, Brighton and Solitude. 1 block away from a Utah Transit Authority (UTA) Frequent Transit Network 900 South bus route stop. Bus 209 runs downtown to Temple Square and City Creek Mall. 1 mile away from the UTA TRAX (light rail) system on 400 South. TRAX runs to the airport and the University of Utah.
Other things to note:
- There is no TV.
- Guests should expect to hear the garage doors opening and closing (and at times, may hear this late at night or in the early morning). The noise is a subtle rumble but may wake light sleepers. A not-so-subtle trash truck services the alley every Thursday morning between 7-10a.
- The sauna is unavailable for one hour on Tuesday nights in the winter (8:15-9:15p).
