This place was great!, it was clean and nice. Only thing I would say need to be done is trim the bushes in the front it makes it hard backing out into that busy road.
The stay was good! The house is a bit older (and I’m guessing the smell that other reviews mentioned was that older home smell) but it was clean and no one from our family had any complaints. Having linens and towels included was great. I’d have no issue staying here again in the future.
Really enjoyed staying here for a local event in LaPorte. Owner is great and provided excellent communication. The house is older and a little dated, but was perfectly fine for our needs. Two suggestions: 1. Add a bath mat in the tub - surface is a little slippery. 2. Hang hooks in the bathroom so that towels can be reused. Looking forward to our return visit in December. Thanks, Matt!.
really enjoyed our 3 nights here for labor day weekend. the house was close to everything and we had lots of fun. we were looking for an older house that reminded of the one i grew up in and this was it ! we didnt do any cooking but the kitchen seemed to be very well stocked and supplied .loved the sunroom most of all . .already planning a second trip for the spring .Mike/Maureen/Brad
This is an older home and has great character! The great things about our stay were: parking was great, trails, close to beach and all the city has to offer, plenty of things like paper towels, etc., house and furnishings were comfortable. The not great thing about the place is it is an older home and has some years visible but it was great for us. Thanks for everything Matthew!
My family and I stayed one night here for an event. Getting into the house was simple and the location is great - short distance to the lake and to nearby preserves.

Lots of potential!
Professional cleaning services would be a valuable investment for the upkeep of their older house with lots of potential. The kitchen could be improved by having a supply of basic supplies.
The house was under renovation but clean and plenty of space for our family of five. Bathroom fixtures recently updated. There are five beds and 1.5 bathrooms. Appreciated short drive to the beach and nature park across the street.
Overall our stay, there was wonderful. The kitchen and beds could use a little updating. A better stocked kitchen would be helpful. It was pretty much as we expected for the price. A good location for access to beaches. Plenty of parking if you’re having guests. The side yard was perfect for sitting outside with a group of people. The owner was very responsive and kind. We had a great weekend.
The house was great for what we needed. We are a group of mom's being away for a few days. We needed a place to sleep, snack, and gab. The beds were comfortable, the love seats in the sun room were comfy for morning chats, the coffee maker worked and the fridge kept the food cold!
We had all we needed and had a great getaway. Previous reviews had mentioned cleanliness, and we had no issues there. We could have used a few extra garbage bags, as there were none in the bathrooms and only one in the kitchen. We brought our own coffee pods as a previous review mentioned that the coffee maker is only a single serve pod machine. We put that thing through it's paces! We might have struggled if we wanted to cook meals as there weren't a ton of pots and pans and cooking utensils, but we didn't need any of that for our stay.

Very Disappointed
Booked this property in July for two separate stays in October and December. The October stay, overall, was fine. It’s an older home & outdated, but we simply needed a place to sleep while we were attending a dog show in nearby LaPorte. Owner double-booked our December stay, claiming our paid booking “wasn’t on my calendar.” We were left to find last-minute accommodations in a hotel, resulting in another (almost) 150 in lodging costs. Owner said to “let me know” the price difference, leading me to believe he would cover our additional cost, (as double-booking was entirely his fault). Once I texted him the amount, he canceled my booking on VRBO and initiated refund only for the original booking amount, less a 59 fee for property damage insurance. Owner has ghosted me on all civilized communications through VRBO and texts to his phone number.. Very disappointed with lack of communication and follow-through. Will never book this property again, when I probably would have returned 3-4 times/year during the off-season to attend dog shows in nearby LaPorte. His loss on good renters that were respectful of his property and paid on time.
The inside of the home did not look like the pictures on the website. The entire inside of the home smelled very badly of cigarette smoke. The furniture was old and torn and the floors throughout the home were dirty with various debris on the floors. The kitchen and bathrooms were not clean. Very disappointed and we had to leave after a few minutes due to health concerns. Also, the communication was not great - I had to write the owner the day before for key/lock info because he hadn't written me.

Not charming
The outside picture of house is not accurate. The front is so over grown with bushes and weeds, barely see front of house. Not 2 bathrooms, 1 and a half. Firepit looked like had not been used in years, weeds over grown it, couldn't find outside light to back yard.House dirty, kitchen stove, had to clean bathroom before using. Kitchen had few supplies, noisy at night, trains all night, cars going by all night. Everything in house old and dated. Bathroom was redone but dirty. Door to basement and outside would not stay closed and no curtains on kitchen windows and glass front door. Not worth the money we paid to rent.

Okay for a couple of days
We traveled about 3 hours from Wisconsin to see my niece graduate high school. We stayed in the house - myself, my sister and my mom who is 80. I should have read the description better, I thought one of the bedrooms was on the main level of the house. The main bathroom with shower was upstairs. The stairs were solid with a good railing, so mom did okay. I think this might be more my mistake than the description, but a small challenge. The house has a bunch of improvements/renovation work but it was not as clean as I would have liked... it could have used a good vaccum or sweep and mop. No sharp knives to cut an apple in the kitchen and the coffee maker was a single cup kurig type. I brought coffee for a drip coffee maker so that got a little tricky. Overall, not a bad place to stay, but could be really special if it had a bit more cleaning and finished renovations.

The house is directly across from Memorial Park, that ha a nice one-mile hike. Behind Memorial Park is Friendship Gardens, which as the name suggestions, is a lovely stroll around international gardens. The Gardens could be awarded the Nicest Guests Garden.
Pottawatomi Golf Course/ Country Club is just around the corner.
Blue Chip Casino is straight down the street.
And, if you drive a little bit farther, you will run antique and local shops on Franklin Square. Lighthouse Wholesale Outlets is another two blocks away.
Why they chose this property
This house is the middle of a lovely neighborhood, and it has easy access to major roads.
What makes this property unique
This old house is an old farm house with all its charm.
