A Retreat in the Woods of Maine
We stayed at this property for the month of July and wanted to be located in Harpswell. It was a great location and home for our family of 4. The teenagers where back and forth and did not stay the whole time which helped given it is a one bathroom house but we made it work when they were there. The house is a super convenient location to get to the town of Brunswick and to explore the rest of Harpswell. Being in Cundy's Harbor it is 5 minute drive from Hollbrooks where they server lobster and seafood on the wharf. The yard was heaven for our 2 dogs and we enjoyed the daily visits from the turkeys and all the birds at the feeders. Thanks for sharing your house with us!

Relaxing, in the woods, short distance to coves, ocean, trails
We stayed off-season so it was very quiet and not crowded. This is definitely a different side of much of Harpswell; very wooded. Frequent visitors of wild turkeys and ducks, many birds. Dark skies to view the stars. Small, cozy cabin.

Wonderful Historic Home
This home is absolutely wonderful! It is an older historic home that has been well-maintained and lovingly cared for by the owners, Nat & Holly, both of whom are lovely, charming folks. The living room and kitchen spaces inside are spacious and comfortable. Wood burning fireplace was great during our stay as it was the autumn months when nights can get chilly. Owners provide plenty of wood which is very generous of them. The property grounds are spectacular! Much larger and more expansive than the photos indicate. Plenty of space to walk with my dog. The home is peaceful and private but yet only 20 minutes from downtown Brunswick & Bath and all the shopping areas when you need supplies. I am an experienced vacation home renter and this is definitely one of the best places I’ve ever stayed. I’d give it 10 stars if I could!

Perfect
Curtis House is a beautiful, peaceful retreat that exceeded my expectations. The house is cozy and comfortable and the grounds are incredible, with birds galore (everything from humming birds to wild turkeys on a daily basis!). Holly is an excellent host. I'll be back.

Beautiful peaceful setting
We loved staying in this comfortable cottage on a spacious private property. Wild turkeys and deer occasionally showed up and there were lots of bird species visiting the feeders. The location is a perfect spot for getting out and seeing the nearby attractions of Brunswick, Freeport, Boothbay, etc.

Beautiful, remote, historical cabin with a lovely garden in back.
My partner and I cozied up for a month in this idyllic Maine cottage a short walk from the sea. We had a wood fire almost every evening, (thank you Nat for all the neatly chopped and stacked firewood), and took a lot of walks breathing in the fresh, crisp autumn air, while our cat Sardine lived her best life in the sprawling back yard. Fully stocked kitchen, and a Natural Foods store in Brunswick (20 min away) made it easy to prepare meals while staying away from the city. Super fast internet connection plus a separate office made my partner’s daily “work from home” situation seamless. Plenty of nearby trails and islands and mom & pop places for lobster rolls just a short drive away! We very much appreciate the R&R we experienced at The Curtis House, thank you again, Holly and Nat.

A much needed getaway...we wished we could have stayed longer!
We loved the house and how secluded it felt. Abby really enjoyed being able to walk in the backyard off leash...she especially loved rolling in the grass and being able to do what she wanted whenever she wanted!! We definitely recommend Cundy's Harbor....Hawkes store and the Holbrooks Store. If you eat lobster...you MUST eat at the Dophin and Erica's. Hands down the best we had on our visit. We enjoyed Morse's and Cooks as well as Gurnet's Trading Co. Pammy's ice cream was great. Mom did prefer the Island Candy company. Make sure to full up your gas tank in Brunswick...there are NO gas stations after that! The house was very clean and checking in was easy. It would be nice if there was a motion light or a light of any kind on the back porch. Make sure to bring spray for mosquitos .... not sure if just the season or what, but they are out!! We enjoy watching the squirrels run and play as well as the birds and butterflies. We got to see an adult porcupine climb the tree out back, as well as a baby one the day we left. We weren't sure what it was at first, so we kept Abby safely inside!!

A cute and private cottage with everything we needed for our extended stay.
The location feels far away, which we wanted, but it’s really only 10 minutes to stores and services. The house has antique charm - pine paneling, exposed beams and original wooden doors with latches. The Internet, tv, and kitchen appliances all worked well. The fireplace was great. We enjoyed walking down the road to the ocean and eating lobster rolls in Cundys Harbor at Holbrooks.

a very comfortable old maine cottage with history.
we had a very nice late September stay.the weather was sunny and warm during the day and the nights cool and pleasant.the fireplace made the evenings ever so enjoyable and cozy.the owners were very easy to work with and even supplied us a map of the area giving us tips on where to eat and things to see.they also gave us the history of the house which gave us even more found memories of our first but not last 'real'maine vacation.

Lovely Cottage Near the Water
This cottage is very comfortable and appointed with everything you could ask for. It's within a short distance of a boat launch, we spent wonderful mornings kayaking in the estuaries. The back deck and yard are delightful, the roomy deck overlooks apple trees, a floral garden, expansive lawn, a small pond & reflective sculpture. It was so nice it was sometimes a challenge to leave the cottage for excursions. Our dog enjoyed it very much as well. The Wi-Fi was good (password IS required), with basic cable TV channels (we brought along our Apple TV for streaming). Beds were OK (there's no place like home...), and the bath larger than some we've rented. Owner was very nice to work with, though there were apparently some email communication issues (through the Homeaway email system). They sent us a few messages we never received, but all was resolved before the trip. Plenty of activities & restaurants to choose from, which is why we revisit the region every year. Discovered Thomas Point Beach on our second to last day, wish we'd found it earlier as we would have spent an extra day there swimming, picnicking & kayaking. Brunswick, Bath & Freeport are good day trips, we limit ourselves to one visit up the coast to Boothbay due to the usual traffic nightmare through Wiscasset. If you go, Dolphin Mini-Golf on Rt.1 in Boothbay is a great stop, with a shell museum & ice cream parlor. Watson's General Store nearby in Cundy's Harbor is THE place to buy your live lobsters (but has no clams, unfortunately). We really enjoyed our visit, and hope to return before long.

Our family has been summering in this part of Maine since 1900 and feel so fortunate to be able to spend time in such an authentic, unspoilt and accessible part of the coast. We hope you will come and enjoy it too!

Why they chose this property

This cottage has been in the family for decades and three generations have memories of eating whoopie pies in the kitchen. Hoover the harbor seal even lived in the pond one summer while he was being rehabilitated before moving to the Boston Aquarium.

What makes this property unique

The cottage has a long history and rooms are traditionally small with the exception of the spacious living room. Exposed beams in the second floor bedrooms could be a challenge for tall guests. This is a great house for a family, but may feel tight for adults who intend to stay inside all day (who would want to do that anyway?).
We prepare the cottage for short term rental in the summer, but please inquire if you would like to discuss a longer term rental off season.
