Inspired by the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright , Grey Havens sits on 450 feet of private Lake Superior shoreline.
Completed in 1993, the house is furnished in mission style for a luxurious yet comfortable feel. Art scattered throughout the home, much of it by local artists, reflects the wilderness surrounding you. The open floor plan allows for cooking, dining and relaxing all with amazing Lake Superior views.
The main living area has a Carlton Peak rock fireplace and a 50' flat screen TV with BluRay, dvd player for evening movies. The stereo system can fill the main area with whatever type of music you prefer from the cd collection or play your own personalized music. The home also has internet, so you can connect and even download movies, if you have that service from the smart DVD. Two comfortable swivel recliners in the bay window let you nap while being lulled by the waves crashing on the shore.
Up a spiral stairs and overlooking the living area is a loft full of books, a daybed with trundle and a couch. Up another spiral stairs and you arrive in the newly-remodeled turret with spectacular 180 degree views of the lake. Comfortable seating and lighting make this a perfect place to relax, read or watch the many changing faces of Lake Superior. At night it's a star watchers dream!
Or maybe you prefer to wander down to the lake to skip stones on your own private beach or fish off the ledgerock shore. Hot dogs and s'mores at the waterfront fire pit creates fun and memories for all ages.
You can create your own gourmet meals in the fully equipped kitchen using the JennAire stove and other amenities. Or grill outside on the Weber!
The master bedroom is a special retreat with two walls of windows for stunning lake views. The attached bathroom has its own soaking tub and separate shower.
The first guest bedroom reflects the voyageur heritage of the North Shore. It's attached bathroom has whimsical wall art of spruce trees, bringing the surrounding forest inside.
The second guest bedroom focuses on the art of Bev Doolittle with her portrayals of the hidden denizens of the birch forests. In the attached bathroom look out the window to find the trees which posed for the birch wall paintings!
Grey Havens is only minutes from Lutsen Ski Resort, with downhill skiing, snowboarding, and in summer, the Alpine Slide. Even closer is the 27 hole Lutsen National Golf Course. Miles of cross country ski trails start just across the road. Hiking in the beautiful state parks along Highway 61 is spectacular whatever the season. Just 20 minutes to the East is Grand Marais, an artist colony and charming town full of shops and restaurants to keep you entertained whatever the weather.
Grey Havens was a harbor for the highest and most powerful of the Elves in Tolkien's story of the Middle Kingdom. It was from Grey Havens that the Elves set sail for other enchanted lands. A place of magic and beauty, Grey Havens was a refuge for the Fellowship of the Ring and is our refuge for the soul.
