As its charming name implies, Nana and Papa's is a true retreat on the shores of Wallowa Lake that will make you feel like a kid again. In this spectacular spot overlooking the lake and mountains, you'll have floating swim docks at the water's edge, an incredible deck that wraps around the house, and a flat and expansive yard for lawn games (the only lakefront home on the lake's west side with a lawn).

This three-story, lakefront home sits close to the midpoint of Wallowa Lake's western shore, about four miles south of downtown Joseph. It's the perfect setting for all of your outdoor adventures, whether you're kayaking, paddleboarding, or embarking on fishing excursions to catch your dinner. Hike a portion of the famous Wallowa River Loop Trail, take a ride on the Wallowa Lake Tramway, or spend a day at Wallowa Lake State Park, all within 10 miles. Come winter, head to Ferguson Ridge Ski Area only 14 miles east.

A highlight of this home is the enormous deck overlooking the lake, where you can sit down for alfresco breakfasts and linger with your coffee in the gazebo. In the afternoons, host barbecues on the gas grill, relax to a serenade of bird song, and watch your kids play in the immense yard below.

The interior is woodsy and welcoming, offering gorgeous views throughout and warm details of wood, brick, and stone. Stream movies beneath two-story ceilings in the window-lined great room, play afternoon card games with a view of the lake, and find every mealtime essential in the adjacent kitchen. After dinner each evening, head downstairs to play pool and watch movies in the rec room - which doubles as the fourth bedroom. There's also a primary suite on the main floor and two guest rooms and a dedicated workspace upstairs.

Large, Comfy with great lake access.

This home is large, with comfy beds, lots of space and a great kitchen. The yard is larger than most so it is quiet and private.

A diamond in the rough.

This is obviously a well-loved family lake home. The views, the stars and the sunrises made up for the tired furniture and some lacking amenities (found no toaster or propane). We had a wonderful weekend nonetheless.

Charming lakefront RUSTIC cabin

Comfy, pet-friendly family cabin on Wallowa Lake. Lovely view and a short drive into Joseph. Google Maps directions were perfect, despite a “don’t follow Maps directions. Follow ours!” warning from Vacasa. Cabin needs a thorough cleaning, including outdoor furniture which was quite filthy. It’s scheduled for an “extended cleaning following our stay so perhaps that will address the several issues we ran into.

Fantastic Location

This charming cabin is in a great location on the lake. The large yard provided ample shade to cool off during the hot summer days and the dock was a great location for trout fishing. Next time we will bring a boat! The house had all the basic amenities, our only complaint is that we couldn’t enjoy the amazing view while sitting on the couch! The beds were comfy and the AC kept us cool inside.

Bats in the House

The property is a nice location, nice neighbors, well maintained yard, very fast internet, lots of TVs and good views, deck and dock. The house was also very clean upon arrival. However, I wouldn't stay here again for a couple reasons. First and most importantly, there are bats in the house. I believe they are mostly in the fireplace but then can escape into the kitchen and bedrooms. There are other reviews on other websites that mention this as well. When I contacted the property manager via phone and text, there was no response/answer. We dealt with the bat that got out on our own, but for what its worth, the management company isn't responsive/helpful. Secondly, while the house is listed for eight people and there are beds for 8 people, the house isn't designed for it. There isn't sufficient seating in the living room or the dining area for 8 people. We ended up setting up camp chairs to provide more seating. Third, the basement, which includes two twin beds and a billiards table, doesn't have sufficient heating and has a strong musty odor. The kids we traveled with weren't willing to sleep down there, so we moved the mattresses upstairs. Setting those things aside, it was a lovely and clean place once we adjusted.
