Description:
Designed as if classic ship of the sea, “Second Star” is a hidden treasure along the Charleston Coast. Featuring a new salt water private pool, fun amenities and views out toward the Atlantic, “Second Star” will delight your family with its beautiful décor. Every detail of the home is unique, such as the wood flooring that originated from an 80-year-old cotton mill from the upstate of South Carolina. Sanded and polished, the ancient wood flooring is gorgeous.

A retired naval officer originally designed and built “Second Star” prior to near tear down redesign a few years ago. But key concepts of the home’s beginning design around a sea vessel remain. The front of the home is shaped like the bow of a ship, with the “ships bridge” being the upper-level living room. Featuring a line of windows, exposed wood beams, shiplap wood walls and perfectly polished wood floors, the “ships bridge” points to the south south west and straight out to sea. In fact, nearly every room of “Second Star” has an ocean view.

The first level of “Second Star” is where you will find the gourmet kitchen (the galley). Every component of the kitchen is first class with stainless steel commercial grade appliances, granite countertops and plenty of room for your family to gather to share stories of the day. In addition to the kitchen, the first level features the dining room as well as the family room. Two of the five bedrooms are on the lower level each with a private bath.

Along with the living room, the second level features three bedrooms, each with a private bath. The “crow’s nest” top level balcony can be accessed by two bedrooms. A bonus feature are the two screened porches that will provide a mosquito free night for your family while enjoying the sea breeze.

“Second Star” has direct beach access by a path that runs next to the home. The Atlantic is less than 200 yards away! This section of the beach is fantastic with little public parking making it nearly exclusive to the homes within the neighborhood. Rolling dunes and wide beach will welcome you and your family. If you have golfers or family members that would like to visit a spa, Wild Dunes is just across the street from 54th Avenue. There are two famous golf courses in Wild Dunes in addition to several restaurants and a lovely day spa. Best yet, Historic Charleston is only 25 minutes away.

Parking:
Five Vehicles as Licensed by the City of Isle of Palms

Beach Chairs and Umbrella:
The Isle of Palms Beach Chair Company will provide your family two classic wooden beach chairs and an umbrella when you stay seven nights (March– October).   These are set up on the beach each morning for your family and removed each night by the crew at IOP Beach Chair Company.

Beautiful beach home

What a beautiful and updated home! Our group of two families had a wonderful week in this gorgeous home with great views. We were there during a tropical storm but still had a very nice trip, and Michael was great with communicating and providing us with important information. Would definitely recommend this house and hope to be back again sometime!

Highly Recommend

Our stay at Second Star was great! Michael Long was awesome and communication leading up to our stay was excellent. We have stayed in the area for years so we were familiar with the location of the house. Never stayed at a location with a pool. This was a great addition. House was clean and fully updated with high end finishes. Highly recommend for a friends trip, family trip, and anything in between.

Beautiful home and terrific location

We had a fantastic time. The home was well appointed, had everything we needed and the layout is terrific. The management group was very responsive and helpful. Overall this was a great experience for us and would definitely stay here again.

Beyond our expectations

This property with multiple ocean views met our 11 person family needs perfectly. The space, comfortable beds, bunks, outside porches (one screened), a “crow’s nest” coffee spot and open utensil stocked kitchen were especially appreciated.

Great house, but does need some repairs. Some of the screens on the screened in porch were torn, and there was some damage/holes in the wall and posts upstairs, which I advised the rental management company of right away.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly....

The Good. The house was really beautiful, clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The location would have been excellent, except for.....The Ugly The Bad. The Wifi connection did NOT work in about 80% of the house. Cell service on IOP is sketchy, so not having a consistent Wifi connection was frustrating. We called the property manager (Beachside Vacations ) who sent someone out. He was able to find another router that was somewhat better, but we had to switch between routers depending on where we were in the house. The trash was not picked up. We had 10 people staying in the house. So, by the end of the week the trash bins in the lower level were over flowing. Again, we called the PM and were told someone would come to collect the trash, but they never did. No instructions on how to use any of the amenities - TVs, Apple TVs, Sonos. We were able to figure most of it out, but the Sonos would only connect to outside zone. We called PM who came to look, but could only offer that the owner must not make the other zones available to guests. Not a big deal, but some instructions would have save everyone frustration and time. The Ugly. The house just outside the fence between us and the beach is undergoing an extensive renovation. The noise level during the day was so bad you couldn't carry on a conversation if you were sitting by the pool. And, it ruined the view of the ocean from the upper decks. We would not have rented this house if we would have known about the construction. I think this should have been disclosed. Obviously, nothing can be done about it, but potential renters beware. It's noisy and ruins the view. If you have a reservation, I would check the status of the construction. It doesn't look like it would be done anytime soon. Overall, I don't believe I received value for the price paid. I would consider renting here again AFTER the construction is complete. But, would also like to see the internet and Sonos issues addressed. An instruction sheet would have been very helpful.

Perfect for families

We had a large family gathering - there was plenty of space with an amazing kitchen and other amenities. Really enjoyed the outdoor ping pong! Super close to the beach. Feels secluded enough from the hustle of the more touristy areas but is also easy to get to downtown and Mt. Pleasant. Would definitely stay here again in the future.

Family Fun Vacation

We have stayed at many houses at IOP and this is our favorite! Great views of the ocean throughout the home and a ton of porches to choose from. Love the two living area spaces. We have 3 and 5 year old children and the gates down to the pool were well thought out for safety! Steps away from the beach which again made it easy with the little ones. Definitely would recommend and plan on staying again next year!

Home is beautiful and well laid out.

Beautiful views from all rooms and porches. Home is very nice and ideal for a large group. A couple of minor maintenance issues: pocket door into upstairs master bedroom was difficult to close at first, and came off its track on our second day making the door unusable. Repairman came out that day, looked at it and said would return to fix later but never came back. We had to leave the door open for the rest of our stay which was a minor annoyance. Vent in one of the upstair bathrooms did not work. Master bath shower glass sliding door leaked water onto floor. Aside from these, very enjoyable stay and would stay there again.

Beautiful Home. It was what I expected and much more

This home was just beautiful. Everything in it was top of the line. The property accommodated 13 ladies. For the last 10 years we have been going on a fall trip and have stayed in some lovely property. All agreed that this home has rated the Best one we have visited. It is simply beautiful. Wonderful gathering point near the beach

Great home. Great location. Great fun. This home is a perfect place for friends and family to gather and share time together. Just steps from the beach, with a nice pool, two large living areas, and a large kitchen / eating area for large gatherings. All the latest and most modern kitchen appliances. Eight TVs (some of which are Apple enabled) allow more than enough viewing options for any taste. Lots of parking. About as nice as it gets.

Perfection!

This beautifully decorated home has everything you need and is just a short walk from the beach. It was perfect for our recent IOP vacation with our little ones and extended family! Each bedroom provides the privacy one seeks, while the open living space is excellent for making those special vacation memories. We have stayed at various locations on the IOP over the last 20 years and this home tops the list! We will definitely be back!

Best Beach House!

This house was fantastic. It hastwo living spaces, very large bedrooms, gorgeous kitchen, and balconies galore! The living rooms were great so that if someone was sleeping on one level, there was still plenty of space to gather on another floor. All the bedrooms were large and well appointed. All the beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms were great with lots of rainfall shower heads! We didn't end up using the giant TVs in each room but they were there just in case. Having multiple balconies meant every single bedroom had access to a semi-private balcony (sometimes shared with another bedroom or one of the living rooms) and it allowed everyone to watch the sun come up. The crow's nest balcony is definitely the most fun to find and offers the best views. The house also had a great access point to the beach which was well-maintained and very private (the beach is a great place to watch the sunset, too!). Lastly, the kitchen was very well appointed and had all the pots, pans, and dishes needed to make all sorts of meals. This house was the exact dream we had while trying to book a large beach house and delivered on all aspects!

Bright, clean, and close to the beach

We loved this house! It is bright, clean, and within a couple of minutes walk to the beach. The pool was warm and clean and got lots of use. The kitchen is a dream and the layout is perfect for large families/groups. The house is very bright so bring eye masks for sleeping. The kitchen is well equipped but it would be nice to have some basic cleaning supplies (handheld vacuum, dust pan and brush, mop, kitchen spray). We had no way to clean sand we tracked in. The beds were comfortable except for the Master--the mattress is pretty soft and could probably use replacing. The A/C worked great and it is so nice that each room had adjustable temperature settings. The only substantial addition we would recommend would be some umbrellas around the pool. There is very little shade and sitting out for long periods was not comfortable. There are no pool floats or beach boards at this house so be sure to bring some. Overall, this is a beautiful and well designed house. We would not hesitate to return.

Amazing Beach Vacation

We rented this newly renovated home for our extended family of 10 over the Thanksgiving week. The home was amazing in every way - new furniture, state of the art tv and stereo system, completely stocked kitchen with an abundant selection of pots, pans, serving dishes, cooking utensils and appliances - everything we needed for the week. The views of the beach were amazing, and the house is literally next to the boardwalk and only a few steps to the beach. The beds and linens were quite comfortable, and kids loved the bunk room (4 twin beds plus a king size bed) and the arcade game upstairs. Thank you for opening this beautiful home just in time for our rental week - it was a perfect vacation. We truly enjoyed our week and would love to return again next year!
