The feeling of home!

We travel so much to Maine we could claim residency.....Three couples stayed for a week with one of the couples making their first trip to Maine and we couldn't have selected a better location to give them their first Maine experience. I highly recommend staying at Tranquility on Penobscot Bay Private Retreat.......

Great place for a family!

This was a perfect spot to land for our family vacation to Maine! Great location and easy to travel for all of our day trips to Bar Harbor or Camden. Lovely house that works well for kids of all ages. Owner has great communication and was even able to ship something that we left in the house! We would definitely stay here again!

The perfect house for our Easter break

This house met our needs perfectly! We wanted a place so our son could get a break from his college campus for a few days and this was just right! The layout was spacious and open and the view was spectacular. Darlene was super attentive - we will definitely be back!

Quiet, peaceful, relaxing

All as outlined by the owner. Fully equipped inside and out. Very close to walking into your own home. Beautiful setting, with a nice porch to enjoy the outdoors. TV with streaming for those rainy days (we had two). Close to the grocery store (Hanaford), the pastry shop (Sweet Cheeks), and numerous walking trails at the nearby parks. Watch the bald eagles, water birds, and deer.

Long Awaited Vacation

Three couples enjoyed the property and all the area has to offer for a week. Sightseeing during the day and a great, relaxing, accommodating place to come "home" to in the afternoon and evenings . All the comforts of home, enough space to prepare meals, relax and visit, or just enjoy quiet alone time with plenty of seating and room for everyone no matter the weather. Very quiet, peaceful setting.

Delightful

This property totally exceeded my expectations in that it was like the owner went on vacation and let us use her house. It was so well provisioned including coffee, paper towels, blankets, towels and linens etc. it was like somebody lived there full time. The location was prime well with in striking distance of Bar Harbor, Bangor, Camden and of course Belfast. All worth visiting. If we were to vacation again in down east Maine I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.

Cozy cottage, perfect yard and view.

Relaxing family get together in Maine. 4 adults, 1 toddler and our medium size black lab mix. Huge private yard with amazing water view. Great home base with lots to do in the area, sandy beach, state park and lighthouse as well as beautiful Acadia National park just an hour away. Enjoyed small towns nearby with great restaurants and farmers markets. Our daughter joined us with her 1 year old and was able to work with high speed internet. Perfect family vacation. Wish it was our summer home!

Beautiful home with lovely water view

Just a superb house with views of the Penobscot Bay & river. A very comfortable and well equipped home. Very clean. Well stocked kitchen. Lovely spacious yard with fire pit and Adirondack chairs. Easy access to Belfast, Bucksport, Castine and only an hour from Mount Desert Island (Bar Harbor, Acadia NP). Great hiking in the area. Great little restaurants. Ate our weight in lobster. Five stars! Darlene was a great host: communicative and accommodating.

Perfect location

Our experience was superb. We had a water heater glitch on our 1st day. A quick text to Darlene, and it was resolved before we returned to the house in the evening. The house is well appointed with everything one needs. Very cozy and clean. Loved having the windows open at night and adding a beautiful extra quilt! The location was perfect. 2 hr drive to Acadia, minutes from state parks and beautiful coastal towns. We hope to be back in 2018.

A great second visit to this lovely home

This was our second visit to Darlene's home in Stockton Springs and it was as good as we'd remembered. The house is comfortable and spacious, with comfortable seating and an excellent bed. The view out over Penobscot Bay is stunning at all times of day and in all weather, and we particular like the huge windows in the living room and the comfortable and well-furnished deck. There are lots of great things about the area--it's a very short drive to the spectacular Penobscot Narrows Bridge, and we love visiting the 420-foot high observatory with its 360 degree view of the area. Fort Know is also a gem, and the waterfront walk in Bucksport is delightful. It's easy to go a bit further afield--we visited Blue Hill one day and the Courthouse Gallery in Ellsworth on another. All together, a wonderful place to stay.

Lovely home base for exploring

Our family had a wonderful week at this rental! It’s conveniently located near many great places to visit for day trips - Camden, Belfast, Lake St. George, Sandy Point beach, and of course Bar Harbor, Bass Harbor, and Acadia. The house was clean, comfortable, well equipped, and had enough space for all of us. The screened porch was perfect for early mornings spent drinking coffee and planning our days. We enjoyed the water views and watching the bald eagles each evening around the fire pit! There is no direct water access from the property but the host was so helpful with suggestions. The weather was a bit warmer than usual, and the house does not have AC, but there were ample fans provided and it cooled considerably each night. I wouldn’t hesitate to suggest this rental to anyone traveling to the area - it’s a real gem!

Great vacation getaway

The Fort Point Cove Cottage was an excellent place to stay. My wife and I have rented numerous houses and condos and this house was one of the best. Everything in the house was very clean. We had everything needed to make our week comfortable including a well- stocked kitchen staples and kitchenware. We enjoyed being outside and this house met our outdoor needs. The yard was large and well maintained, the deck was great for early morning and late afternoons views of the bay; and the open space was great playing frisbee with the dogs. Then there was the enclosed porch for the mid-day sun with a cool breeze; we often ate our meals there and observed occasional hummingbirds. Then to top the day off, we enjoyed warmth of the fire pit as we watched the stars. I have been traveling in Maine for many years, but never spent any time in Stockton Springs. This is a great location; it is a short drive to Belfast, and there are many nearby areas to walk and boat. Sears Island is a real gem of a reserve. You can walk at low tide around portions of the perimeter or walk inland on a road or trails. On the midweek days, we only saw 2 or 3 other walkers. Also, if you like kayaking, Stockton Springs Harbor is only a 10-minute car ride and a great put-in spot.

Lovely, peaceful home on the water

Absolutely the perfect home for a authentic Maine experience. The screen porch is heaven on earth. We had a flock of turkeys that weren’t in the least bothered by our presence. So we enjoyed watching them munch on the grass everyday. Lots of birdsong. The house has everything you need to cook anything you want. This was our home base for two weeks while we explored all along the coast. Very private. Theres no houses in sight, although some close by hidden by all the trees, so very private. Some days we didn’t even leave the house. It was so relaxing we didn’t want to. They have a great tv and surround sound so we enjoyed watching movies together. THere’s no A/C, which wasn’t a problem for most of the time but we there were a few hot and humid days that made us get in the AC Van and go anywhere just to be in the AC. But it was never a problem st night because it was so cool. We kept our windows open and the fans going every night. I slept so good and woke up feeling completely refreshed everyday. Something I could never do my day if the year back home in Texas.

Yearly Maine Trip

Been vacationing in Maine for decades, the house & area of Stockton Springs is a wonderful peaceful bit of the Old Maine of my childhood. So enjoyed the house & grounds lots of room to spread out, fire pit nights, waking up to our 3 resident Bald Eagles was a treat. The house is well equipped and we had everything g we needed & more. Darlene is a wonderful host responsive & helpful. Can’t wait to return. Young’s Lobster Pound is the best in our opinion.

Eagle roost Penobscot views

Comfort, quiet, and serene view frequently accented by roosting bald eagles. Blue berry hedge with ripe fruit for breakfast in the mornings, plenty of firewood for gathering around the fire pit at night after cooking in the well equipped kitchen. Screen porch another great gathering place which was cool and breezy even on some 90 + degree days. Great location well away from traffic and noise but close to countless great destinations, including nearby trails on preserved Sears Island. I took one star off on accuracy only because Darlene, who was very accessible and easy to work with, needs to update a couple of items on the listing. Highly recommended house rental! Really comfortable beds!

Great family vacation

This property and the location was beautiful! Darlene was so easy to work with and the house had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We traveled to Maine for a long overdue vacation with our parents and had the best time. The house is located in a beautiful, quiet area that's a short drive to anything you could want or need. We spent our time exploring the nearby cities and hiking around Acadia and Bar Harbor. We already miss it and cannot imagine how lovely the area is in the fall with the changing colors. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to unwind and enjoy the beauty of Maine's coast.

Family June Trip

My family and I had a wonderful weeklong vacation at Darlene’s. The house was beyond equipped with daily necessities and supplies and the host was great with communication. We spent a lot of family time on her beautiful outdoor deck watching the sunset and played many games in the screened in sun porch. Stockton Springs is a nice central location for day trips to Bar Harbor, Castine, Deer Isle, Belfast, and many others. We will definitely be back!

A Return to Maine

Family of four adults just spent 2 weeks at Fort Point Cove Cottage. Could not have made a better choice. The “cottage” had everything we needed. Kitchen well stocked. Grill for outdoor cooking. Comfortable beds. Large screened-in porch, cool even on the hottest days. Big screen TV for evening movies. A view of Fort Point Cove and the mouth of the Penobscot River. Privacy from neighbors. Bucksport, only minutes away, for all of the essentials. The perfect place to unwind. We found FPCC an excellent location from which to explore Downeast. Camden, Rockport, Belfast, Acadia National Park, and Schoodic Point are all an easy drive for a day trip; we visited them all. Our longest drive for a day trip was to Boothbay Harbor, a 1.5 hours drive. Our recommendations: Young’s Lobster Pound in Belfast, Otter’s Waterfront Eatery in Castine, Big Chicken Barn Books for used books and antiques in Orland, downtown Camden (don’t miss Lily Lupine and Fern for wine; proprietor knows his stuff), and the Littlefield Gallery in Winter Harbor. No trouble in finding your own favorites. The owner, Darlene, great to work with, was readily available for any and all questions or concerns; she checked in regularly by text to be sure we had everything we needed. I recommend FPCC and will book it again in the future.

Best house rental EVER!

My husband & I have been renting houses for vacations for the past 11 years and this house is hands down the best one we have stayed at. This house has EVERYTHING you could possibly need. It is so clean and the kitchen is well equipped. There is wood supplied for the fire pit or inside fireplace if you like. The views are spectacular overlooking the river/ocean every morning. We came here for a much needed reset during COVID times and it was the best decision we've made in a long time. We had to work for a couple days and our kids did a little remote school work. The internet is super fast! We were all on at the same time. We explored Bangor and did a self guided Stephen King tour. Went to Acadia for hikes twice. We fished in Belfast! Explored Sandy Beach with our dog and Fort Point State Park which is simply lovely. These last two are a 5 min drive from the house. Great grocery stores nearby in Bucksport and Belfast. The star gazing at this house is out of control. Coming from Chicago--- we just don't get those kind of skies. You cannot go wrong booking this house. Thank you Darlene for making such great get-away!

Host profile image
My husband and I grew up and reside in Bucks County Pennsylvania. We have been vacationing in Maine for over 30 years and have established close ties and friendship to its people. I truly enjoy welcoming and hosting guests to our home, especially first time visitors to Maine. I am a registered nurse working for a large cardiology practice at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia. My husband works with industrial and artistic glass. He enjoys hunting and fishing and is looking forward to someday receiving his first moose permit. We are planning to retire June 2024 so we can move to Maine in 2025. Because we enjoy hosting guests, plans are being made to add a detached garage with an upstairs apartment in 2026.

Why they chose this property

I cannot express the openness and peacefulness one experiences while staying at Fort Point Cove Cottage. Stockton Springs houses its own lighthouse located in nearby Fort Point State Park, has its own local beaches and is centrally located along the coast: 40 miles to Ellsworth, Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Blue Hill and Rockland/Rockport area; 25 miles to Bangor and Camden Hills; and just a hop and a skip to Belfast, known for its wonderful shops and restaurants, Bucksport featuring Fort Knox and the beautiful Penobscot Narrows Bridge, Winterport for its brewery and winery and Searsport with its 8 miles of antique shopping, its Maritime Museum and Moose Point State Park.

What makes this property unique

The FPCC is conveniently located so you can enjoy a wealth of events within a stone's throw of away. Just a small sampling of our 2024 Season includes:
1. Belfast's Art's in the Park: June 24-25
2. Bucksport's Bay Festival: July
3. 4th of July Celebration kicks-off the summer season.
Check local paper for fireworks and lobster boat races.
4. Yarmouth Clam Festival: July 19-21
5. Rockland's North Atlantic Blues Festival: July 12-15
6. Belfast's Celtic Celebration: July 19-21
7. Maine's Lobster Festival in Rockland: July 31 - August 4
8. Belfast Harborfest Classic Boat Show: August 17-19
9. Machias Blueberry Festival: August 16-18
10. Camden's Windjammer Days: Labor Day Weekend
11. Blue Hill Fair where E.B. White was inspired to write 'Charlotte's Web: Labor Day Weekend
12. Fiber College Searsport Campground:
13. Searsport's Old Time Music Camp-out at Searsport Shores Campground: September 7-10
14. Acadia Night Sky Festival, Acadia National Park: September
15. Common Ground Country Fair in Unity: September 20-22
16. Searsport's Fling into Fall Festival: Columbus Day Weekend
17. Damariscotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta: Columbus Day Weekend
18. Camden Snow Ball National Toboggan Championship February 10-12

No doubt that summer is fantastic in the Mid-coast and Stockton Springs/Searsport area but, let's not forget our four season climate: Spring offers budding trees, blooming flowers and fresh maple syrup, Fall is filled with the vibrant changing colors of our abundant hardwood trees and the best time to enjoy fresh apple cider, Winter offers snowshoeing and cross-country skiing at Sears Island and many of the area parks, with downhill skiing nearby at the Camden Snow Bowl and Herman Mountain. Many of the Carriage Paths at Acadia National Park are also open for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing.
