About this property

Private Home on Former Summer Camp w/Trout Pond, Fields & More

A housekeeper has been trained with cleaning prevention guidelines and practices. Guest will find a package including hand sanitizers and face masks that they can use during their stay.

This luxurious mountain cabin is nestled in a hardwood cove surrounded by a babbling brook, blooming rhododendron, and landscaped with native plants. The cabin is tastefully furnished with mission-style antiques, has a wood-burning, field stone fireplace, and all of the amenities of a home away from home. A wrap around porch with outdoor living room surrounds the cabin---perfect for outdoor relaxation by candlelight while listening to the beautiful sounds of nature and a babbling brook. A large grill and stereo speakers make the porch perfect for outdoor lounging and entertaining, and a native stone circle fire pit is located in the garden area just below the front of the home. Inside is a large great room with a cathedral ceiling with hardwood paneling, dining table for 6, fully equipped modern kitchen, 2 sofa beds, WiFi internet and satellite HDTV with premium movies and sports channels, and BluRay/DVD player. Originally a summer camp over fifty years ago, the property on which the home sits now is a private, family estate comprised of 66 mountainous acres with two ponds that are fed by 3 streams that originate on the property. There are two small fields at the top of the mountain that are perfect for playing games with the family and throwing balls to the dogs. Gravel roads and trails weave throughout the property for leisurely strolls, short hikes, and outright bush-whacking for the brave hearted! A great place to roam through the woods, play in the streams, and have some fun adventures with kids! Structural relics of the old summer camp still exist----old stone foundations from the cabins, a stone amphitheater in a mountain cove, outdoor fireplaces, etc. make for interesting exploration as you walk the property. The largest pond is over an acre and is stocked with Rainbow Trout. An outbuilding that serves as a workshop/garage with a large front porch deck overlooks the pond with a grill and patio furniture making the perfect space for relaxing while fishing for your evening meal. This is more than a rental home --- it's an adventure! The Master BR has a King-size bed and a bathroom with a full bathtub/shower (the home's other bathroom has a spacious shower with a Waterpik high-pressure showerhead with an extra long hose if your dog happens to need a shower too!). One of the two additional BRs has a Queen-sized bed, and the other bedroom has a King. The LR has two Queen-size sleeper sofa beds. Home is well-appointed and furnished: all you need are your toiletries and clothes! High quality bed linens and towels are provided as well as a surprisingly well-equipped kitchen (coffee maker is drip, by the way as most ask, and I provide filters). What guests usually say they like most about this home is the very large covered porch out front with fire pit just below. Note: If this home is booked, there is one other home on this same property that isn't within seeing or hearing range (a small mountain separates them). Both homes have similar amenities, but it is a 2BR/2BA. You can check its availability by searching for property number 565064.

Secluded mountain home perfect for our family get away
We are a busy family with three teen boys so we were looking for a get away to reconnect as a family and slow down a bit. This home was perfect! It is secluded enough for major relaxation but close enough to town to enjoy local restaurants. We fished, sat on the deck, enjoyed smores on an outdoor fire pit and explored the trails around the property. We also took the owner’s advice and hiked Rainbow Falls. Amazing! The home was clean and comfortable. It was also stocked with normal household items such as spices, coffee filters, laundry detergent so it was easy to feel right at home. David was also very responsive and kind. As we were leaving my boys said “10 out of 10, we want to come back!” We will definitely be back!

Love this house, property and location!
This is our third time staying at this property and first time in this house. We absolutely love everything about it so that is why we keep coming back! The house is in such a beautiful setting amongst the trees. Spacious house and super comfortable. The house and the property have everything one would need and then some! We brought our dog with us and she loved the large property for exploring and the pond. There is good hiking right on the property and we enjoyed doing a little fishing in the pond. We love the location of the house and we love the area. There are many waterfalls to see and Gorges State Park is right close by. Brevard is only about 15 minutes away and also close by is Sapphire and Cashiers. There is a small grocery store about 5 minutes away and a big one about 15 minutes away. Contact with the homeowner is always easy and he is quick to respond. He gives you so much information about the area, things to see and do and restaurants in the area. This will always be our go to place to stay when we get back to the area again! I highly recommend this house!

Quiet, clean mountain house
Our family of four, and small dog, stayed at this property for two nights over spring break. It was incredibly clean and well-stocked. The property is nice and quiet, and surrounded by natural beauty. 12-15 minutes south of downtown Brevard, and easy to find. Would highly recommend.

Perfect
I stayed here with my pup for a long weekend and it was absolutely what I needed. The house is privately located and near a lot of trails that I like to hike. David is a complete pro. Very accommodating, very easy to deal with and very quick to respond to any and all questions. The house and property are just as beautiful as described and as seen in the pictures. I don’t know what else to say except that I cant wait to stay here again. Cheers!!

Beautiful and charming cabin and grounds
Superbly cared for location. The cabin is furnished with genuine antiques, books galore full of local history and information about points of interest. The host has supplied high quality, environmentally responsible personal, kitchen, and laundry products, and a wide variety of cooking sauces and spices. There is nothing lacking here. Excellent WiFi and television with surround sound, but bring your subscription login and password information. Location is superb, and short drive to many scenic hiking and sightseeing spots. Do not pass by this place looking for something better.

Respite and retreat
What an amazing place. We loved it more than any other VRBO or AirB&B location we have stayed in Brevard. The cabin was clean, cozy and well stocked. The property was gorgeous, secluded and fun to explore. We were close enough to Brevard and surrounding areas to get plenty of time in our favorite spots but also felt like we were in a mountain hideaway. We loved it truly. Our boys fished and played to their heart’s content.

Large property with lots to do
Great property with lots of areas to explore. The house and the garage on the lake were stocked with everything you could need including lots of games and outdoor gear. We caught a few beautiful rainbow trout in the stocked pond. We only left the property for a short drive to Gorges State Park to see waterfalls. Other than that we stayed entertained on the property. It is fantastic for dogs to run and swim in the lake.

Perfection
The cabin was exactly as described. Not only was it located in a beautiful setting with lush grounds for exploring and a stocked pond for fishing, but it was, also, exceptionally neat and clean. Additionally, to say it was well stocked would be an understatement. We discovered that we could have packed less because there was little to nothing that was not already at the cabin for our use. The kitchen included a regular and a Keurig coffee pot, complete with filters. There was every pot, pan and utensil anyone could ever need. The appliances were in new working order. The bathrooms were stocked with enough towels for an army. The laundry room was filled with detergents and dryer sheets. There were countless sheets, comforters and pillows. There were books, games and toys. The porch has comfy furnishings and a grill. There were even umbrellas for our use. The detached shed by the pond housed yard games. The host, who did a wonderful job of communicating with us prior to our arrival, left us a wonderful bottle of wine and a bag of chocolates. Also, he provided a note on the fridge with a menu of a suggested local eatery that we found to be excellent. I could go on, but I think you get the picture. Everything was perfect, and we would certainly stay at the cabin, again. I cannot recommend it enough.

Paradise
David's house was everything we could have wanted. We spend a lot of time in the mountains, but since having a toddler we try and find rentals that are a "one stop shop," and David's retreat fits the bill. The house was cozy and the grounds were beautiful and expansive. As native Floridians, we don't get too many opportunities to sit around the fire so we took full advantage of both the indoor fireplace and outdoor firepit. My husband, 4 year old son, and I traveled with my very active parents in their mid 70s. Mom and I wokeup early every morning to explore the property and see what new plants were emerging and try our hand at identifying them. You can tell David has taken great care to cultivate a beautiful landscape and we were only sorry that we couldn't stay a few more weeks to see everything in full bloom. The whole family tried their hand at fishing. We did not catch anything, but the couple staying in the other cabin said they'd caught over a dozen which they released back into the pond. We all had a blast regardless. There are tons of salamanders in the pond which were also fun to watch. I can't say enough good things about this property. You feel very remote and private while being only 15 minutes from town. We also visited Bird Rock falls, which was also approximately a 15 minute drive from the house. The beds were very comfortable and David has everything you need. I'd write more, but I've reached my character limit. Thank you, David. We hope to be back.

This was our third trip to the property and we had a wonderful time per usual. We loved being able to enjoy the time with our 2 sons this time though. Just a bit about me. I live full-time in Atlanta but am a Western North Carolina native. As a child growing up in the area I loved spending time outdoors and some of my fondest memories were attending Gwynn Valley summer camp in Brevard and hiking in Pisgah Forest. I’ve owned the property where you’ll be staying for about 20 years and previously shared it with my mother and her husband, and now look forward to retiring there myself---hopefully sooner than later! My son,10, loves ‘adventures’ on the property and learning to fish, and I really enjoy gardening, hiking, and anything outdoors as I’m ‘trapped’ in the office in Atlanta most of the time! I’m an amateur botanist/naturalist (most people don’t like to hike with me because I stop to ‘look’ at things all the time!) and the mountains are my escape from city life. I’m counting the days until I return to my mountain home where I'm truly happiest. I'm honored to be the custodian of this beautiful property and share it with my family and friends, and my sincere intent is to have them love and appreciate it as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

This property is unlike others as it's located on the footprint of a very old summer camp that has old native stone walls, beautiful old stone foundations from buildings like archeological sites, old roads weaving through the property now just trails for walks that go nowhere. Privacy and room to play is what the property offers. Firepits, picnic tables, an old stone amphitheater built into a mountain cove make things special for family gatherings. All of this 15 minutes from Brevard, 20 minutes from Pisgah Forest with the hiking, waterfalls, and unique mix of cultural offerings, such as the summer Brevard Music Festival and great restaurants, shopping, art and music in this small, mountain town is truly unique. My dream was to share the property with my family and friends, and guests, in hopes that they love and appreciate it as much as I do. The property is large and very private with only two homes. It offers plenty of room to explore and a perfect place for kids and dogs to play outdoors. It's close to town, less than an hour away from Asheville yet just down the road from Gorges State Park, rafting and canoeing, fly fishing and a stocked trout pond right on the property.

What makes this property unique

The property has plenty of room to play, lots of privacy, pet-friendy, and kids love it! There is a large, acre-sized pond stocked with local rainbow trout for fishing, two small mountaintop fields, multiple streams, and hiking trails for long walks. The home is luxurious and stocked with all that you'll need for your stay: kitchen is more thank equipped with utinsels, tools, bakeware, pots & pans, and small appliances, and the bedroom linens are high-end and comfortable. The home has a great fire pit as well as a wood burning stone fireplace inside. Firewood is provided. Just down the road is the Frozen Creek entrance to Gorges State Park which is very close to the property, approximately 1 mile, and offers mountain biking and hiking trails. The Blue Ridge Parkway can be accessed approximately 12 miles away, and whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing on the French Broad River is a mere 1.5 miles away. Downtown Brevard is an easy 10 mile drive (or 15 minutes) away. When renting this 'home' you're truly getting much, much more.
