About this property

The House That Love Built Airport, Pgh, Wash PA

Our cozy, quiet, pet-friendly off-the-beaten-path home is 20 minutes from Pittsburgh Int'l Airport, Downtown, and Washington PA. You can enjoy nearby bike trails, golf, nightlife, museums, outlets, and the Rivers Casino. Great for a couple, solo adventurers, small families and business travelers. NOT suitable for infants. Old souls feel at home here. If you want a luxury home or hotel room please keep looking.

This is a home with character and components from historical buildings. It isn't a hotel or a historic landmark. It's not perfect. Everything is clean but may show signs of wear. You will find peace and solace, woodland creatures (and insects) and a space that allows you to focus on simple pleasures.

The House That Love Built was a farmhouse, that my grandfather bought and rebuilt to give to my grandmother when they married. As a child I visited here frequently, and lived here during college. My fiancé & I are excited to maintain this beautiful property, and 150 year old home.

Charming home reminiscent of a grandmothers home

Home was clean and communication with owners during the stay was prompt. My friend was not as pleased, and did not stay the 2nd night. I don't think it is fair to the Vrbo listing to address her issues in my review, but I will relate them to the owners. For most friends or acquaintances, this home rental would be more attractive and preferable than a noisy hotel

Clean and Affordable

Awesome place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Highly recommend. We went for the Steelers game and it was really convenient to use the trolley to get into the game. Chrck this place out! You'll be glad you did!

A beauty off the beaten path.

Chris and Gina have a lovely home close to the hustle and bustle of Pittsburgh. But, far enough away you aren’t bothered. In the 4 nights we were there, I think I only saw one car go past. It is an older home that they are renovating as they can. So, don’t pull in expecting 5* accommodations. But, quaint, clean, and quiet lodging at an affordable price. Don’t forget to fill out the bathroom guest book!😂

Quiet

Love this cozy home and the location was secluded and quiet. Just what we were looking for. Owners were excellent to deal with, very thorough in the process. Love the history of the home and surrounding community. Would recommend to family.

Great stay

This host communicated very well and was very accommodating for our group. We were traveling to Pittsburgh for Pokémon regional tournament and the host was kind enough to leave pokemon trinkets around the house. We appreciated the hospitality and we will definitely look to use this host for any future trips to Pittsburgh.

Dirty

This place was disgusting when I arrived. There was 2 dead roaches just sitting there in kitchen when i first arrived and it only got worse. The shower had leftover hair and dirt in it. The house smelled awful as if something died in there. The headboards of the bed looked as if nobody ever cleaned them. Had to book something last minute and they won’t refund me. Don’t stay here.

About the host

Your host

Host profile image
Chris is originally from Ohio, and Gina is a Pennsylvania native. The home is Chris's grandparents where he visited frequently growing up, and then later lived in while he was going to college. We are grateful to be able to list this house to keep it in the family and eventually live here one day ourselves. We are honored that people take interested in this home that means so much to us, and look forward to hosting you!

Why they chose this property

This home has been in Chris's family since 1965, built in the 1800s and has somehow remained a delightful distance outside the fast paced community that has sprung up around it. Everything you need is reasonably close, but you are far enough away to experience peace, quiet, and solitude in the hills.

What makes this property unique

While The House That Love Built holds much value in nostalgia and preferred lifestyle for us, traveling guests who seek a short term home with space, character, affordability and a change of scenery from the drab sameness of mass rented houses will appreciate our home.
