The Durr House at Pea Level, historic home on beautiful Corn Creek.
This beautiful property was home to civil rights activists Clifford and Virginia Durr. This is a 4 bed 3 bath home with outdoor swinging beds, dining for 8 under the century old scuppernong arbor, a rear deck that can easily seat 20, and the swimming holes and waterfalls of Corn Creek right out back. Come have a cocktail on the back deck, play a game of horseshoes and hang a hammock by the water rushing over the granite boulders and finally relax. We look forward to seeing you!!

Beautiful historic property in convenient location
Our stay at the historic Durr property was exactly what we needed! Five of us were in town for a family wedding shower, and the house gave us a lovely place to get ready before and then wind down afterwards by the firepit. The lights on the creek were an unexpected delight! We also enjoyed looking at the historic pictures in the dining room and feeling like we were part of an important place, both in terms of the life the Durrs lived and the work they did. The only slight downside: Although the house is outside of town on a beautiful piece of property, the traffic on Highway 14 in front of the house is fairly heavy throughout the night. You don't hear it much from the back of the house, you do from the bedrooms on the front of the house. This might be a problem for light sleepers.
The property is beautiful, but remember that it is a historic home. There were a few cobwebs, but the space was beautiful and otherwise well maintained. Plenty of beds and bathrooms and community space for a large group.
My family of 4 stayed here for a wedding weekend and were pleased with our stay. The house is charming by day albeit a bit creepy at night if you aren’t used to lots of windows. We love love loved that the creek was lit with spot lights and the hanging beds. I will mention that on our second night we discovered we were sharing the house with a mouse. He only made one appearance and didn’t seem interested in bothering us. Not shocking given the age of the house and being surrounded by woods. Overall it was a pleasant stay.

The house was not clean, Dust build up and full of spider webs. We understand historic, but historic doesn't mean you don't have to clean up. All the doors are jammed, and the front door looked like it had been broken into in the past. We did not have access to laundry room and multiple doors on the house. Small pantries with supplies are understandable and fine but with the front door not being secure it was a little unnerving to not have access to a whole room that someone could have been in. The photos of the creek make it seem really close to the house, but it is down a ravine and isn't easy to get up and down.
