About this property

All Season Paradise. Swim, Hike, Ski and More!

Welcome to our Jamaica farmhouse, a place with space to live and breathe the beauty that Vermont has to offer. Simple, authentic, and perfectly close to the village, yet quiet and serene. The peaceful sound of water over stones can be heard from the brook outside the front door. Minutes away from the slopes and other outdoor activities, the entire house is a library- a real treasure for those days one might rather curl up by the stove. The attached yoga/ meditation studio is completely private (windows and skylights face away towards the mountains and the back of the 2 acre property.

Physical Description/ Walk Through:
The house has an attached barn with covered parking for one car and an insulated room to remove and store ski equipment. The hallway between the house and barn leads to the kitchen, a yoga studio with Buddhist shrine, and a fenced in dog yard that backs up to our summer cabins. The kitchen and dining area are together. There is a small wood stove at the far end of the dining area. Also downstairs is a living room with a large wall mounted TV and wood stove, a den/guest bedroom with a double futon sofa bed, and a bathroom with a shower and laundry.
The second floor has a large master bedroom with a full bed and work desk, and a small single bedroom. The rooms share a full bathroom that is accessible from either bedroom.
The 3rd floor is a converted attic that is a great room for kids. There is a trundle bed, a single bed and a full futon couch, so it can sleep up to 5 young ones. There is a 1/2 bath and a television upstairs.

The Village:
The town of Jamaica, just steps away, is a friendly Vermont village. Westriver Provisions is a wonderful market with a great selection of necessities including local produce, breads, pastries and an extensive craft beer selection. There are always seasonal festivals and local activities. Jamaica State Park is also a quick, and beautiful walk from the house.

The Area:
There is a wonderfully healthy Co-Op in Brattleboro, a grocery store in nearby Londonderry and every kind of shopping, including designer outlets, in Manchester. Enjoy the many restaurants also nearby- from diners to gourmet award winning dining. Please feel free to ask me for recommendations!

Great Fall Weekend in VT
We stayed at this great Jamaica farm house for a weekend in October. Great house and great town equals great memories. The fall colors were spectacular and the state park is within walking distance form the house. Great place to explore. We hope to visit again sooner than later.

Communing with nature
We had a wonderful week in this most beautiful location. I already miss my morning walks along the west river trail in the Jamaica state park just down the road. The location is stunning. The house fit 6 of us very comfortably. We loved hanging out in the backyard with coffee in the am or over dinner in the pm. The yoga studio an extra treat! So much to do in the area. And just a short walk to town to pick up amazing D&K sandwiches!

Peaceful farmhouse retreat
We can't wait to come back to this sweet house! My kids (5 and 3) loved playing in the brook across the road for hours, running around the back yard, swinging in the hammock, and they especially loved the kids' room on the top floor. We loved the views from the front porch, meditation-retreat vibe, and farmhouse charm (those wide pine floors). Jamaica is a lovely town, the grocery is a short walk for the foods and supplies we needed, but all in all it was quiet and calm. The house is full of books and all the amenities we needed - washer/dryer, window fans, well stocked kitchen, so many towels, and other supplies. I've never loved a vacation rental as much as this one, it was wonderful to feel so at home.

Great house, close to Stratton. Perfect for group
We had a group of 10 stay over a long weekend of skiing. Kitchen was equipped for us to cook dinner in each night, and plenty of beds to accommodate us. It was just a short drive over to Stratton. The property is great and set away from the main road so very quiet. Plan on staying again in the future!

Great House and Location
We (a family of five) had a wonderful stay in this renovated farmhouse. It is furnished well, has a wonderful library, a well-stocked kitchen, and is set up to inspire a relaxing and contemplative stay. We loved waking up to the sound of the brook directly across the street. The house is within an easy walk of a well-stocked general store and state park (the Overlook Vista trail now, at peak foliage, is breathtaking). We hope to return!

Home away from home!
Loved our time in Vermont at this special house! There is such ease when it comes to staying at this home, from making reservations, to finding everything you'd need to make a killer meal at a little market just a short walk from the house, to the soothing sounds of the water running over the rocks just outside your window made this an amazing and easygoing experience. a short 15 minute drive to the mountain and endless fun exploring around the neighborhood and this perfect home. This will forever be such a special weekend for myself and friends and I hope to make it back much sooner than later.

lovely family get away
We spent a wonderful weekend at this warm and inviting, very Vermont home. Our party included my spouse and I and our two sons 9 and 12 as well as my parents who are in their 70's. We had great skiing at nearby mountains and really found everything we needed in this home. There was plenty of room and a wonderful yard to explore. Everything about this house made our weekend easy and pleasant from a shoveled path to the door that you could pull your car right in front of, to the clean and well appointed home. I would definitely recommend a visit.

quintessential Vermont
This beautiful farmhouse has become part of our family tradition. Plenty of room for the eight of us. The farmer's kitchen table and comfortable living room are the hub while 3 stories allowed for private reading, and naps as needed. Listen to the sound of running water as you fall asleep. Beds are comfy with nice linens and blankets provided. Kids built an igloo in the back yard while adults practiced yoga and the beautiful studio space. We skied Bromley, Killington, and Magic Mountain, with Magic taking the cake for that laid back Vermont ski experience. No lift lines, varied terrain, and good snow. Check out scenic Rt 100, the Grafton Nordic center, Grafton Cheese Factory, and Jamaica State park in the back yard. Great for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Too bad Jamaica doesn't have a restaurant. The D and K grocery is great for any staple, beer and wine, and last minute meals. if your a foodie, you've got to check out Solo Farm and Table in So Londonderry, amazing! Also 15 minutes away, New American Grille, good fare. Skip Jake's Tavern though.

Hi! Born in New York City, I grew up on the East Coast- primarily on Cape Cod, but spent quite a few years in the Berkshires, as well. I have been living in Los Angeles since 1994. I own a health and fitness business and teach Pilates, Yoga and other forms of exercise. To me, our home in Vermont is the ultimate retreat from traffic and the hustle bustle of everyday life. I am happy to be able to share the unique, restorative experience that this very special space has to offer.

Why they chose this property

My Father's Dream Home
After summering in Jamaica for many years, my father bought and completely renovated the 200 year old farmhouse and retired from his job and life in Manhattan to live the good life in Vermont. An activist for peace, a writer, and practicing Buddhist and Jew, my dad built the yoga/meditation studio which served as a Dharma Center as well as a space for yoga and Tai Chi classes. The honorable Lama Pema Wangdak regularly traveled from New York to teach at the studio, which served as the Palden Sakya Center for Vermont. The summer cabins, an outdoor labyrinth and an outhouse were added to further realize his vision for the property.
As you see in the photos, the house contains original paintings and other artwork. My grandfather was an accomplished artist and much of the art in the home is his or that of his contemporaries. There are also some local Vermont artists represented on the walls.
My sister and I have tried to preserve and maintain the simple beauty, integrity and artistic as well as spiritual curiosity this property embodies. In the summer, we hold various retreats and celebrations at the house. We love our home, and we're sure you will feel and join in the love on your next get away!

What makes this property unique

The Sound of Water Running Over Stones! The Master bedroom on the 2nd floor is on the front side of the house. The sight and sound of the babbling brook across the street from the property is calming and promotes restful sleep.
The Books! An eclectic and interesting collection, there is always something new to discover.
The Barn! It is still, mostly, all original. A garage was added (to keep the car snow free). Someday we'll have chickens in there again.
The Studio! All wood, sky lights and windows- it is a place for the body and mind to roam free.
